So when everyone stops pedalling after dropping a watt bomb out of the corner, just keep pedalling at tempo to pass a ton of dudes on the side that will be the inside line for the next corner. then prior to the corner pick a dude while you are moving up that you will be able to get your handlebars even with his handlebar like (20 yards prior to the corner), then you can safely take that inside line (obviously don't shut the door on that dude on corner exit because that is just a jerk move). If you try to pick off too many people and can't get your bars even with someone prior to the corner then you will have the inside door closed on you and you will have to grab a ton of brakes... but it is pretty easy to get a sense for people's momentum so that you can be in a safe position to take the inside line. Obviously you can't do this in every situation, but this course was ripe for that on the back zig zag section.

There's actually a proven effective technique for riding in the back, not wasting energy, and never getting dropped. The technique is called "tailgunning". It takes a few race corners to master it.

I am almost same way with the bike computer. For races I have it set to display a timer and current heart rate.

Why did you start in the back at the start? Were you placed there, or did you put yourself there? Just wondering if it was a confidence issue before the start. Thanks for posting these man, I always enjoy them!

If you can’t see the front 10 riders you are not in the right place. If you do find yourself at the back when everyone stops peddling coming up to a corner you need to be going down the inside of a tonne of riders. I’d rather put in a good ten minute effort to get to the front than stay at the back where drafting is weak and you know you will be putting in a constant effort.
