TR Hamza Why doesn't this and the 300 not have the 7box? I have the Ibiza Cupra and that has the DSG7 I would of though the "next step up" would of had it
just seeing your emotions when driving the cupra made me smile intire video i am a huge seat leon cupra Fan its 1 hell of a car for its price the DSG farts are brutal makes the car unique!
Smashed it again sir. Yet another quality video. Please don't leave it to long for your next one. You are up there with the best car reviewers I have seen. I understand you have commitments. Keep up the great work.
Great review, I own a 280 and an S3 and can certainly vouch for what other people have said, the contis that come standard are absolutely terrible! Once you stick a set of PS4s on those traction issues are massively reduced (not including other mods I have done). Personally I think the Cupra is slightly faster than the S3 but of course I can only drive one at a time so can't be certain, it does require a very different driving style though. As for the Golf R I can certainly say from many occasions that the Cupra is faster and this being the 290 SHOULD be quicker again. But you were bang on the money saying that the Cupra is suited for he track
0-60 in 5.8 seconds. This car will leave 99% of cars you see on the road dead. It's such a joy driving it, especially when you see the guys with BMW, Audi drivers thinking they can keep up with you.
MrZyLeXx Hardly cheap The cupra 300 is 35 grand I was at the dealership picking mine up on Saturday and they had a 300 in there, it's a 35 grand car and looks amazing
RS3 is different altogether... And the S3 is subjective The interior is miles behind I agree But seeing a cupra 300 (real life not a screen) it blows you away, the S3 is nice but u see hundreds driving around I see about 5 leaving work I've only ever seen 1 leon cupra, I have the Ibiza cupra only 200 in the country, blows everything away in its class, fiesta ST, VXR, Mini S, Clio RS, I've had the owners of all these cars around and in mine and all admit it's a different level. Maybe I'm sucking seats dick too hard because I own 1 but hey, least I have a car I love! I've been in a S3 nobody gives it a second look because "it's a Audi u see everyday" everyone looks at Cupras there presences is crazy Edit; it looks "cheaper" because it IS cheaper lol
In my country the CUPRA is an unbelievable value for money, it costs just as much as a basic golf GTI which has 17 inch wheels, fucking halogen headlights, and really very basic, with mentioning its less powerful, the CUPRA comes with, FULL LED headlights, LED taillights, adaptive suspension, panoramic sunroof, seat sound system, LSD, and MUCH more powerful, and in my opinion it looks sportier and better than the GTI, the CUPRA is an amazing car for what you are paying.
Great video, well put together and good clear voice👍Have the 290 in this spec but with leather electric seats. Personally I'd go for the bucket seats next time as they will give more support. These cars a rapid as fuck and the pull from 30 to 130 mph is proper nice. I'm buying the cupra r end of the year!
It's worth getting the 290 just for the character of that exhaust! And for less money than a golf r lol. Your going to get traction problems in a high power fwd car, a good set might help but in the wet you are screwed. Great review though definitely influenced my decision in getting a 290 rather than a 2y older golf r with double the mileage for the same money
do more vids about golf R please ! My self and im sure other viewers want to know what you get out of performence pack on the new MK7.5 and what options are worth getting . I think that would be a great video
Great material Hamza! Yes, would without doubt pick the Cupra 290 in a heartbeat over a GTI. Driven the 280 for a weekend & as I live in Lebanon, the weather here is mostly dry throughout the year (as we're actually within the Mediterranean), & the performance levels on even the 280 are terribly close to a Golf R, if not slightly better. Steve Sutcliffe has tried both back-to-back & concluded that the 280 bites a bit better around the turns & is even a bit more energetic in a straight line. Same goes for Auto Express as the 280 also came out on top over a track comparison. My good friend has a stage 2 S3, so I'm impatiently awaiting your trial of the RS3. Keep up the great work mate!
Man I have a 16 plate GTD and its between a Cupra 300, MK7.5 R and S3. I'm leaning towards the Cupra because of the interior and wheels, and the fact that with all the options I want (upgraded sound system, sunroof, keyless etc) the price matches the other standard cars. I'd want pretorias on the golf and I'd want options on the audi because the interior is too bland otherwise. I'm just not sure if the lack of 4WD will make me regret the decision. My GTD is manual and mapped to 240bhp 400lb-ft so I'm used to the front wheel drive drama. I hope someone can sway me! Awesome vid as always, eagerly await the next ones now.
I have one of these and I swear all the traction issues are down to the terrible conti sport contacts that they come standard with, I'll be swapping them soon as I'm true conti fashion, they have worn out within 8,000miles... Maybe some Dunlop sport maxx rt2? We'll see. Nice vid pal, I enjoyed it 👍🏼
TheTomboy26 I own a 290 Cupra too and the Conti tyres are terrible. But to solve wheel hop you need to spend £50 on a 034motorsport dogbone mount as well as tyres and it's a different beast.
TheTomboy26 I have a manual 290, and mine also worn out just short of 9,000 miles. Changed them to Dunlop rt2's funny enough ... 1,000 miles in and I can say I made the right choice. Great value for money and any traction issues and wheel hop has been dramatically reduced. Everyone opinions different though, am sure there are better tyres on the market however I'm extremely happy with them!
Good review. I agree with most of what you say but not the part at 16:50 with regard to cornering. I had a mk7 Golf R for 2 years and am 7 months into owning a Cupra 290. Living out in the sticks in Scotland I drive a lot on wet twisty roads. I have been quite amazed at how much better the cupra will go round a corner even when it's wet. Having that proper mechanical diff makes a big difference over the brake based system in the R and S3. The last 2 clearly have better traction due to the haldex system meaning they will always launch better and as you showed the launch in the Cupra is rubbish. However, the Cupra definitely has more lateral grip. It grips in corners where my R used to understeer at lower speeds.
Another cracking review, I owned an MK2 Leon Cupra and they are such great cars to drive on the road and so much fun. I'd say its the cheaper alternative to people who can't quite afford the Golf R or S3. If I had the money I would buy a Golf R but the Cupra's are awesome to drive. In my personal opinion I think the older models look better especially the K1 Cupra's and with modifications. I think Seat went for a more 'mature' look with this generation
Found your channel a couple of days ago and have now watched pretty much every vid. Really informative and useful, particularly as I'm thinking of getting an S3 in the next week or two. One thing though, would be nice to know a bit about ride stiffness in these cars, as in motorway vs B-roads. While I love chucking a car around the twisties, every review out there seems to focus on just that, so it'd be nice to know how each car handles motorway journeys and bumpy roads too, even if it's not as fun to do! Cheers, and keep up the great work.
As a 🇨🇦 I've never even heard of this manufacturer, and it creeps me out that you're crazy enough to drive on the wrong side of the road all the time 😉
Hey TR, I posted about a year ago regarding my old 280 Cupra. I've not long taken delivery of a 'new' 290 Cupra (downgraded due to WLTP) I've had an Audi S5 as a work car. I've also drove a couple of Golf R's but I think my Cupra with 7 speed box and digital dash is the best bang for the buck! It'll easy have a Golf R/S3 when on the move! I'll be buying a MK4! Love your vids as usual!
@@Syncopter It still pops and crackles but the DSG bang is more like a muted thud now. It may get louder with a few more miles on it. It's a little disappointing considering the Asbo bangs of the old 290 and 300 but the 7 speed DSG works really well in the car.
The Peller And in term of sound, do you still like the new cupra ? I mean, DSG fats were what made people like the cupra ! I’m about to buy one, sorry for those questions haha
@@Syncopter I still love the car but if your after the big DSG farts your better off going for a 300. I think they have strangled the exhaust to get it through WLTP regs. I know people that take the resonator out for more noise but may cause warranty issues. seatcupra.net forums have a couple of threads on this. Great forum
The Peller I’m not especially looking for the big DSG fart, i was just guessing how the cupra sounds now ! But if it stays like a sport car, then I’ll deal with it ! I’ll check it out, thanks man !
Cupra 280 owners complained about the exhaust been to quiet. When the 290 came out they deleted the middle silencer the make the farts and exhaust sound louder. Something along them lines im sure someone will correct me on here if im wrong.
Good video as always bro, try and get hold of an A45 AMG if you can. Had a play with a mates A45 in my facelift S3 and it was neck and neck even though paper figures suggest otherwise
good cars very understated but quick enough for daily use,the new ones come with 300 bhp and have 4 wheel drive good spec on this car the sunroof looks good.
Probs even faster slightly driving alone. Syed must what, on average weigh what 80kg? All makes a difference. Brilliant review as usual bro, been a while!
Nice review but still glad I went with the manual version even though the exhaust is quieter than the DSG. Just wish it had a launch control option like the DSG version but you didn't try it :(. Oh and you were sat on sports seats not bucket seats !.
My brother had the old shape Cupra R an it was savage in 3rd gear.... But good video bro as always.... By the way did you go to Santa pod on Sunday....
