Is This STREET FOOD OVERPRICED? 

Hi folks - hope you all had a good weekend ! Time for some street food - 5 reviews in one !!!

Personally, I've always thought that these sort of Street food things were overpriced food served unhygyienically out of the back of tents/vans. Like Glastonbury festival but without the music. But for some of the vendors they are the first experiment into doing the food they love to the masses. And i know that some find a permanent location with a queue down the street. So i can see why the vendors do it and why buyers go. Well done on the 5K subs and thank you to the Misses and the Littleun for letting us borrow you.

Livng in Poole I didn't go to this mainly because of the prices but also because invariably that now ridiculous term "street food" has simply become a label to put on some noodles or a wrap sold from a van and charge twice what it's worth and often considerably more than what the same food would cost from a decent local restaurant. That, and and eating outside with nowhere to sit on actual chairs and a table with my food served in disposable packaging and cutlery is a personal vision of hell.

All food looked great. A bit pricey but the stalls have to pay through the nose for their pitches !!! Great video.

They all look great and tasty but I thought on the expensive side. I don't think they were value for money but I suppose the operators have the captive audience and licences for these events aren't cheap. Thanks very much for a great review. It is appreciated.

The Hoisin dish looked really good too and good sized portion. I always think food tastes better when you eat it out in the fresh air and especially on a nice sunny days like in your video

Do you ever go to the Christchurch Food Festival, we went for many years and saw it grow so much, not been for some time. This Poole one looked good, some food seemed very expensive but I guess they have a captive audience, trouble is then a lot of people can’t afford it. Good day out though

"Is street food overpriced?" The simple answer is no. It is artisan food made with love care and attention. It is not mass produced from a corporate chain like McDonald's or Burger King etc, who employ burger flippers who are totally disinterested and just want a job to establish an income. We have all been to a burger chain and ended up with mistakes in our order like a badly put together burger or missing items. This is all due to a lack of care and attention whomever served us. Your Afghan chicken wrap looked amazing. There are thousands of wrap shops up and down the UK, but you would not get anything of that quality from a corporate chain. The Jamaican chicken, rice and peas looked lovely, but I take not that you said it had been pre-cooked and was sitting on the counter, so was a bit cold. I think the duck dirty fries looked to be my overall favourite. I would definitely order them and try them. With the Afghan wrap being a very close second, so much so, I would probably have both. The meat bowl with pickled onion and slaw did look nice and I may be tempted to try it, but it would not be at the top of my list. Gyros is fairly common, so although this may have been better than the average high street offering, I would not be in a rush for it. It did make me laugh seeing you hold the Gyros and commenting on its weight; it looked like you were cradling a baby.

Cant believe i missed you i went on sunday and my favourite was the gyros i had the greek i also liked the afgan wrap for the flavours but for value the gyros

Think I would go with your ratings for that selection. My first reaction was that they are expensive but when you think of them as costing 2 MacDonald meals they seem better value.

Definitely the Afghan wrap 1st and then the giros 2nd for me 😍

Tenner, well worth it. The second one looks reasonable... Costly. That one. Wow ,Duck our favourite meat for the slow cooker. Yours looks wonderful. That Duck looks nice. 2nd favourite so far. £9 not bad. No 4 looks nice.. Brisket beef another favourite. Well worth it. Now this looks like number one now.. Wonderful flavours. Costly, but worth it. I totally get the prices they're charging mate... After all they have to travel to and from these food festivals dotted all around the country... And we all know that Petrol and Diesel aren't exactly cheap these days either... Then there's the Butane Gas Bottles for cooking the food... And of course Generators are needed to provide an Electrical supply for when they're situated in the middle of an open field... And they need to run refrigerators to keep both uncooked food chilled... And also a variety of drinks cold as well... Plus the actual costs of the raw ingredients needed... And that's before they've even paid their staffs wages... Or even taken any kind of profits from their food festival sales... Most businesses run the 3 thirds business plan... Where you allocate a third of your overall costs for the basic ingredients needed... A third of your overall costs for your overheads such as... Food & Drink... Fuel... Staff Wages... Cleaning... Cartons... Cups... Wooden Cutlery... Napkins... Condiments... Kitchen Foil... Cardboard Boxes... etc... And the final third of your costs... Are for your overall profits... So buying a food item that costs £9.99... It'll be split evenly three ways... £3.33 for the basic raw ingredients... £3.33 for your overheads... And you'll be left with £3.33 in profits... So although the prices might seem quite high... Especially if you're buying several different food and drink items... While you're there visiting with your family... But it certainly looked like you all enjoyed your family day out to this food festival... And the weather looked absolutely gorgeous Greeno... All the very best my friend... Cheers mate.🍺

Your daughter doing an out-take from the Exorcist behind you was a bit worrying! But the food looked tasty just expensive! Most of those places were at the Christchurch one, but when I saw burgers at £16, I gave it a pass!

Afghan wrap looks amazing and good value. Chance to try other cuisines you normally wouldn't try and its a learning curve and experiment . Loved little uns gymnastics display. What a star.

Hope you had a good time at the cricket. I'm going to the Utility Bowl again on Friday night and going to have one of the those Greek wraps, the one I had last time was delicious.

Love food festivals. and fair play to the organisers with unreliable UK weather to contend with. Our local has cookery lessons by qualified chefs and live bands in the evening.

Some interesting foods there . . I thought the duck was good value for what you got . Here in NZ the food truck movement is starting to kick off other than at markets . . 4 or 5 trucks will have a night in a particular suberb . . Same night every week etc . . Great vid as usual . . Hey Greeno, another entertaining vlog, visually the food looked great. The prices were a no-no though. The vendors were charging restaurant/ takeaway prices but without the overheads. Looking forward to the next vlog.

There was no way that the jerk chicken meal was worth £16, and was cold! 😲 Get some Vanish on that grease stain on your T-Shirt too. 😉

Street food is always overpriced. It may be tasty but far to expensive.

Duck is just a chocken dressed in a tux so they can change more for it. All food outside of my kitchen is overriced. 😉

The food looked great, but the longer I am away from the UK, the more the prices look ridiculous. (The costs of the pitches are a disgrace). But it is great too see how much more variety of food is now available.

I should not have watched this while hungry. It looked so tasty. Some were well overpriced, the jerk chicken for sure. The wraps would probably have been my favourite too as they put sauces and salad with a nice bread. I was laughing as well with little un doing her somersaults in the background lol.

Hi mate looks great, wonderful atmosphere. Love food festivals like that. Sorry to go back to Mainz again but their annual food festival down by The Rhine is awesome one weekend. Lots of stalls, great beers etc. Artisan producers etc and cake stalls cheese etc. Prices yes a little bit up . But you have to remember most of these guys probably don't have a shop etc and have to make their money in the summer at festivals be it music or food festivals. Hats off to them. Great choice etc. Afghan roll amazing, I love Middle Eastern food, Syrian food Lebanese etc . Lebanese red wine is awesome to🍷🍷🍷🍷

Well, no entry cost is a ". big up from me " Always a bit of a con in my mind. Pay to get in, then the extras 💷💷💷💷 I think that chicken thighs are the best bit of the bird. Holds its juice really well £10 for a filling wrap 👍👍👌Jerk Chicken, I'd have said £12 for a portion £14 for the large. Duck'n'fries looks like a real deal meal ❤🦆🍟fair price. Couldn't really pay attention to the smoked meats. Watching young'un cartwheeling around, and after eating & drinking. MY stomach was doing flip flops. To end another stuffed flatbread. Well, cheap eats are a thing of the past. Quite a few street vendors in Central London nowadays, so a tadge spoilt for choice. And prices are very reasonable for the location. We stopped eating at popup food stalls years ago because of poor value and poor quality food. We just stick with established venues. If you go online and look at pitch costs its ridiculous. Bristol harbour festival which has many food stalls costs around £1000 a day for the pitch. That's a lot of money to claw back! That's free entry and worth going to Vs the food festival which has less food stalls but you pay to get in.

its just the cost. 1st stall £10 £11 pound.. why would you think you are the star even the dog is above you hehehe good to have a 5 star cameraman or woman hehe as soon as you go over a £10 you need a good portion size. some of the foods have cheap base food. like chips maybe cost 30p with some sliced duck on the food gets dried out due to keeping warm and cooking ages ago. i do think daddy should do what child did how much did you spend. how much did you eat that diet is not going well

Well over priced. £12 for a wrap. £16 for a tray of Jerk Chicken and sides, Duck Fries £9, Smoked meat £12, Gyros £14 Street food is supposed to be made on the spot, be hot and be cheap. None of these seemed relevant. Compared to Take Away they don't have to pay much in the way of overheads. Would I pay these prices, definitely not. Someone selling real chips and curry sauce for £5 or Baked potato for the same would have cleaned up.

Street food is supposed to be cheap, I wouldn't pay more than a fiver for any of those dishes but the Afghan food did look good but still not worth what you paid for it
