I fly aerobatics in dcs world. And I have the warthog stick and throttle. I feel like it's too stiff to make those small adjustments. I definitely gonna switch the ava.
The AVA base is 1000 times better than the warthog base. Over time the warthog base will wear, the centre dent becomes more noticeable, it develops stiction issues, and if your unlucky the rubber gasket will warp on the plastic ball joint. So if you are buying new. Go for the AVA base with which ever stick you prefer. The warthog base is OLD tech, with its plastic gimbal, it is not worth it. Get The AVA base, its just as good as any of the other bases from VKB, virpil or wingwing. The only caveat is Thrustmaster has sold out on their accessories, so soon after release, which I hope they remedy soon, as I have still not been able to source the Offset adapter. Also, they stated adjustable Dampers, which are nowhere to be found. This is a must, as all other bases have these. So, for all you helo pilots, hopefully they figure out their adjustable dampers for the AVA Base.
Firstly, Will it cure the "Sticky" feeling or just create another one using existing plastic parts? Namely the plastic ball it pivots on. Secondly, Will I need to customise every time I swap between an airliner and a helo? Thirdly, the additional price of $500 on top of the thrustmaster set. Compared to say replacing it with a new Virpil or similar. Would have hoped an aluminium polished super slick gimbal or software that could be swapped on the fly to switch profiles would have been a better improvement. For me, and I love my probably 10 plus year old Warthog setup. There are better options, more updated and better built options available than spending money on a base I still need to physically modify between profiles.
Is the AVA programmable? In the past you could use software to highly customize button combinations or macros. Since programs like DCS are advanced maybe this is not as necessary. But I still program my thrustmaster old sticks. No one speaks of the AVA having any programming like say from target software.
I think that is excactly the good question: AVA versus Warthog in a matter of helicopters. I've bought the AVA (but not unplacked it yet) to get rid of that "center floffyness" in the Warthog. But I would also like to hear from people who have actually tried this with helicopters before starting using it :)
I tested it and I cann tell you 100% yes. Way better as the Warthog, with the Aero inlets you have basically a very soft center. You can fly helicopters with this way more precise.
