I bought a new camera this year, but it's not exactly "new". She an oldy, but a goody.
The Fujifilm X-E2 is a small, and a fairly old camera. However, I have really enjoyed shooting the majority of my photography with it in 2024. Cameras like the X-E4 or the x100v are too expensive and rather hard to find at the moment, so the X-E2 is currently my favorite camera!

My x-e2 more often than my x-e4. And since a week im so thrilled of my new x10. Yes you're right - the x10, not x100 😅 But to be honest.. i love all three of them ❤

I have the XE1 and i found it still in the box with the 18-55. I bought the 27mm f2.8. The XE1&2 have the best layout imo. Same size as the X100.

Love this video! I'm having a very similar experience with a Fujifilm X20. (Hey, I even got the rope strap a lot like yours!) I also have bigger and higher spec cameras, but I wouldn't want to carry them everywhere. The X20 has charm, a sort of camera charisma, and it seems it was perfectly thought out for the user's experience. It also has X-Trans II, but in smaller format (2/3"), and it has a 28-112mm (equiv.) F2-2.8 with sweet mechanical zoom action. Oh, and an optical viewfinder! Yes, bright and clear even on sunny days. I was disappointed with its JPEG output when I pixel-peeped. Details seem smudged away. The raw files process beautifully in RawTherapee, though! Details are preserved, and there is some noise, but it resembles film grain and looks better to me than the smudges. I think I will be shooting raw only with the X20.

Yeah there is just something about the character of the slightly older cameras that just feel so nice. The subtle grain, and sometimes out of focus shot really just gives off a nice aesthetic. Glad you are enjoying your camera and thank you for being here.

X-E2 or X-E2S that I have are sweet spot of E series, I prefer 2nd generation sensor, but 3rd gen sensor is more color accurate as also have X-T2 to compare. Last one made in Japan. Has built in flash. Ergonomics is ok. And somehow colors and overall impression of pictures compared to e.g. Sony is better, more pleasing, don't know how to express. What's your opinion as Sony user?

I LOVE my Sony. My favorite camera I’ve ever had. It can quite literally do almost anything I need it to. Not really fair to compare it directly to my X-e2 because they both serve a different purpose for me. I agree with you, Fujifilm has great color science, especially the trans 2 sensor….BUT the photos I get from my Sony are top notch.

EyE feels the same way about the sensors, which is partially why I, too, have an X-T2 as well as an X-E2..... I also use the Weather Resistant X-T2 with a Weather Resistant Fujicron for shooting in inclement weather.

I’m honestly not sure. It came with the camera when I bought it. But there is “MHG-XE” printed on the corner if that helps you find it!

I work as a professional portrait and lifestyle photographer with X-T4. I am currently working on a second street photography project and my X-pro2 died after 5 years of every day use. The X-E2 has become my street photography camera that never leaves my side. As Weston pointed out the camera slows you down to appreciate your surroundings. I find the X-E2 artistically liberating , the slower processor and softer rendering give me a filmic experience. The large prints from the camera has a analog feel to them,. I am currently unable to upgrade any of my Fujifilm cameras do to the lack of availability which is very concerning. Thank you Weston for a great video.

I own 5 2nd hand Fujifilm X camera's. My preference ranks them as follows: number 1 X-E2, and then X-T20, X-T4, X-T2, X-E1. I am just coming back from a walk and had the black X-E2 with me. It's a camera that invites you to take pictures. 4 weeks ago I bought that black X-E2 in mint condition still sealed in the box. I sold my silver X-E2 a week later for the same price.

Why do you place the X-E1 so low? I was thinking of getting a used one off of eBay, but should I reconsider? I'm looking for a camera that I don't need to edit the pictures for and they're still a vibe.

@@seanshvo Its autofocus is the slowest and the least precise amongst my 5 Fuji's. In lower light (indoor) it is also the least capable. The X-E2 sits in the same body and gives me more keepers.

@@tobiassenn99My main raison for the X-E2 preference is the higher eyepoint of the viewfinder versus the X-T20. I wear glasses and can't see the entire scene through the viewfinder of the X-T20. If this is not your case and your left eye is rather your dominant eye, the X-T20 is much more versatile and a better choice.

Ordered one yesterday from mp* and now i can't sleep at night. 😊 Sold my Q2 for a big Hassie H3d but that's no camera to do street ph. Had an x-t2 several years ago but the x-e2 seems like a better camera for streetphotography.. more convenient...or just so nice to look at

I just bought this camera and it's my first camera ever. I have done probably close to 100 hours in research and everything points to this exact camera. In fact a lot of people have sold their X-E3's in favor of the X-E2. I feel like it will only start to triple in price the more popular it gets. I just pulled the trigger on my first lens its a fujifilm XC 35mm at $200 and awesome quality i had to start with the nifty fifty and go from there right? I bought this camera primarily to do product photography up close macro style of fishing tackle. I also wanted to have a pocket able camera that I could take everywhere and capture all the moments for my online retail store/blog. Figure i would start on autofocus lenses first so that i could work on honing in on the fuji triangle better instead of trying to focus and not progressing much. I really liked your video.

Surprised you don't find the xtrans-ii sensor sharp. I had an x-t1 with the same sensor, and it performed better than my A6000 with its much celebrated and larger (24mp vs 16mp) sensor.

When I shook up my cameras this year, I went with a XE3 and a XT4. Had both previously, and returned to them. And yes, they cost an arm and a leg, even if the XT4 is a bargain for its feature set when compared to the cost of the Sony A7 series.

I found a used xe2 for a decent price online, but had to send it back: sensor had a tiny scratch. But I was really impressed with it for the short time I had it, enough to know that I’ll be looking for another one.

xe2 with 23f1.4 its one of the best camera i love, it is only camera with built in pop up flash so useable when bouncing the flash light to the ceiling and can create wonderful portrait image.

I shoot with the same pair of cameras. Not giving a hoot about video or action photography, and the Trans2 sensor being on my favorite Fujifilm body, this camera is far from a compromise for me, in fact it’s my sweet spot as far as street photography goes. With the revised aperture ringed 27mm pancake, this combo fit’s my size/weight bill to a tee. Consequently, I literally never leave home without the camera slung over my shoulder on a minimal Peak Design strap, as it feels like absolutely nothing, never gets in my way, but always close at hand when an opportunity reveals itself. I have the full complement of f2/2.8 Fujicrons as well, & also have a full frame Sony A7II, which is my dedicated body for my collection of vintage m42 screw mount Pentax Takumars. My time spent with each system is split pretty much 50/59. EyE don’t look at my system as a compromise, as it fits my particular wants & needs.

Heck yeah! That’s the power duo for sure. I love my X-e2 as my every day carry camera! It’s a tiny beast and really has allowed me to just have a fun time snapping photos everywhere I go!

The XE2 is the real deal and if you like classy ergo camera with color simulations with grainy\classy film look, this is it(as the starter\only camera). But wait, the 35mm F1.4 len is the awesome pairing for me on this camera or my other Fuji. Just don't take my word for it, it will come around when you excel with the XE2 and what to try other Fuji focal lengths...

I bought a new X-T20 right at the end of the production run (the X-t30 was already available). It came with the XF18-55 lens and I have since bought an XF35/1.4 lens. Totally happy with the camera and both lenses from day 1 and I feel no need to upgrade to anything more recent.

I'm considering to sell all my other camera and keep only Fuji XE2, XF27mm and TTartisan 35mm f1.4. But I'm keep checking other Fuji camera to upgrade from XE2 lol. Only thing that bothering me is no flip screen. How do you manage without it?

I just sorta understand that the X-E2 has its limitations. And through those limitations I find challenges that sorta force me to grow or think differently about how I approaching taking certain photos. The lack flip out screen doesn’t bother me personally. I understand what the camera is capable of, and that’s what makes it special.

Gotta have that mindset that a lot of these new iterations are 2~3 years apart, and the heart and soul of these cameras have changed very little, namely the sensor. Most new tech and features are quality-of-life upgrades. Embrace the older stuff, when funnily enough, some of these older stuff are not even 10 years old. If you do go with an old model, all it means is YOU need to put in a bit more work on your end, the amazing shots are all still there.

When I shoot Jpegs with my Fujifilms, I often take advantage of the unique film simulation bracketing mode they offer, shooting in Chrome, Monochrome, and one or another of the others simultaneously..... Nifty, especially so when on a fence I might not have known I was straddling 🔍🔎

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and tips. I've just found a nice X-E2 on the grey market, to be my everyday carry, and be "second in shooting" with an X-T5. That combo should offer interesting possibilities. And, as you said, the 27mm f/2.8 will fit perfectly that cute X-E2.

Thank you! It’s most likely Classic Chrome with some of my own adjustments and presets! But base recipe is most likely Classic Chrome. I jump between that and monochrome usually.

I think I personally just like the photo of my doggo. He jumped in the car and I just so happened to have my camera on me. An example of a photo I was able to capture in the moment. You’re right though, probably not particularly special to most people.
