Love our Ferris. We have a 5 acre uneven yard and I was tired and sore from the rough ride and I loved the solitude of mowing. The Ferris gave me that enjoyment back. Now my husband races me to the mower.
Brad, in 2017 I had my 3rd back surgery and we decided to search for the most comfortable zero turn mower we could find. We purchased a Ferris iS 2100Z 61", and it is the BEST mower we have ever owned. At the time we had traded a Husqvarna in on a Kubota zero turn. The Kubota cut and threw the grass much better, but had an EXTREMELY rough ride. Over the last 30 years and solely using zero turn mowers, we have owned many name brand mowers and this is the BEST!!!. We have 700 hrs on it, and have changed the oil once. My wife started using the mower, and has never turned the keys back to me. The Ferris cuts very cleanly and does not bog down, our lawn looks very nice and we continue to get compliments on it. My wife is very particular with the look of our lawn, and loves HER Ferris, which is ok with me. Bob
I wish we bought one Years ago! (Unfortunately Very Pricey!). With that said, I like mowing, especially with our 3300…..cut our mowing time down more than 1/2. (Unfortunately, I rarely mow now……my wife takes All the seat time!😂🤣😂
I can relate! We purchased the Ferris after my 3rd back surgery following a lot of research on the comfort of the ride. After my wife used it she never let me use it again. She mows our 6 acres and LOVES doing it, she calls it therapy...which is okay with me. She claims she does a much better job, which again is okay with me. The Ferris is the best zero turn we have ever owned, and I believe we have owned 10 over the last 30 years, most name brand makes.
I have a Farris isx 800 60” and we went with that cause our property is very bumpy it does an amazing job and doesn’t beat you up! I wouldn’t trade it for anything at this point.
I cut 3 - 3 1/2 acres. I have a dewalt z260, 60” deck, 25ish hp mower. It has all the power I need to cut my lawn. I love the machine. But my yard is very rough. I was actually thinking about getting a stand on machine. I would have to stop to give my back a break while cutting. I then looked into possible suspension conversions or whatever. I then discovered Trac Seat seat suspensions. For about $175, my machine is now a joy to use. Not gonna lie, it’s a pain to install. But what a difference! I can now travel almost full speed now whereas before I’d have to crawl over some spots to save my back. My 76 year old father has a little husquvarna zero turn and his lawn is the same. We put a Tractor Seat on his machine. He loves it. Worth a shot for Spunky. It really will help your ride. Deb would never get off of it!
i am so glad you tried the Ferris . I have a Toro 6,000 my ride made in the same plant. it is only 36 hp and has a 72 inch deck and after five years I still love it. The Kubota diesel top of the line 72 inch that I had before this one took a lot of time cleaning the radiator every three hours or it would over heat
The suspension on the Ferris is the key advantage they have in the market...very nice ride for sure. My SCAG is nice on flat and smooth, but gotta slow down when the ground is rough.
I cut 300 hours a year and when I'm in an open area I raise the shute. It helps so much! My old Exmark will throw the clippings 15 feet. Spreads it out real nice.
I am a new resident in Compass Lake/Alford. My yard is too rough for a zero turn so I now have a Bush Hog 7 ft finish mower on a kubota L4760. It cuts nice, but doesn't really throw the clippings well and tends to windrow in thicker grass. Mower is a rear discharge, and I can't find high lift blades for it. Anyway, howdy neighbor!
Tyres are a type of suspension. Play with your tyre pressures. A comfy pressure will differ between the weight of a person on the mower. Give it a crack.
ZD = diesel & PTO to deck - suggest stick with your ZD. TFS. Compare fuel expense per hour of mowing. Ferris is thirsty. God bless & God bless America. TFS
It's my first time seeing your videos and it was fun. Good comparison. To throw a monkey in the wrench I just looked up Ferris and they have a diesel ztr. Best of both worlds maybe?
I bet that 40HP Gas engine guzzles gas pretty bad though compared to the diesel in the other zero turn. Would be interesting for you to mow with each machine and go through a tank of fuel in each machine and see how far you get on a tank of fuel. You'll probably have to fill the gas tank on the Ferris long before you do on the Kubota...that's one thing with a diesel engine you get more fuel efficiency it seems.....I have a DR Power 26" walk behind mower right now (I don't recommend them btw). That thing guzzles gas, and honestly it don't cut that great overall, its very heavy, and the self propel system doesn't work all that great either, and there's no reverse or no reverse assist, on such a heavy machine it should have a reverse assist at a minimum. I don't have a lawn tractor right now, so anytime I want to mow I need to put the mid mount mower deck on my tractor, or mow everything with that DR 26" which is something that'll wear you out rather quickly. I guess I need to do a video on that DR Power 26" walk behind....the 30" isn't any better, just more expensive and more of a fuel hog. I barely get through my yard on a tank of gas with the DR Power 26" walk behind, my lawn tractor with an 18HP engine I could mow my yard and pasture twice...the DR Power would take probably 3 tanks of fuel to mow the same amount of grass the lawn tractor would mow on a tank of fuel. The Ferris would be a commercial machine, which is why its got such a high service interval....however, even at that I'd still change the oil/filter more frequently than the manufacturer claims...the oil breaks down over time with heat/cool cycles. With my lawn tractor I changed the oil/filter in it once a year regardless of hours, I do the same with my Kubota BX2680 as well....I change the hydraulic fluid in it every couple of years. If I went by the maintenance schedule it would be 2-3 years between oil changes, and I'd probably change the hydraulic fluid once in its lifetime LOL....Fluids and filters are cheap compared to a catastrophic failure by trying to cut corners on not doing maintenance.
We would have to have the Ferris longer to do a fuel efficiency test but we filled it up before we gave it back and it took 4.5 gallons. The diesel might burn a gallon less but that's unofficial numbers! Thanks for watching.
Kubota model is entry level and the ferris is the best they build. hours of life of a diesel engine is more then double, seen them over 7,000 hours.... Bigger tires ride over bigger holes.... Have run both.... Try equivalent if you are looking...
No, the 1211 is a much beefer machine than the 1011. Totally different machine. Your comparison is not apples to apples! I have a zd1011 and an Exmark x series.
As much as those mowers cost she should be to make money to afford those things. I looked at one a while back, OUCH, costs as much as my tractor did LOL. For me though a regular residential zero turn would be fine....but then found I couldn't pull my little garden trailer with one, so I'll buy another lawn tractor for next season....I tried pulling my garden trailer loaded down with stuff I usually use it for and used my neighbor's zero turn, it was doing wheelies...and it don't have any provisions to add weights on the front, so I'll have to get a regular lawn tractor again LOL.
Firstly, you need to throw that goofy hat under one of those mowers! There are thousands of hat choices out there. Secondly, armrests are on premium zero-turn mowers for a reason. Learn to adjust armrests and lever handles for wrist movements while your arm stays resting on the arm rest. Slide your hand towards the outside if need be. Very slight wrist movements should be all that is needed, with no pressure making your arms tired from see-sawing back and forth. Makes a big difference, especially by reducing the number of things bumped while trimming. Just my take. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍🇺🇸
Just wanted to check in with y’all It’s Monday afternoon and hope y’all are good from the storm We are sending prayers and hope you didn’t get a lot of damage God Bless
I am a farmer and the B&S engine are bad I had 4 blowup on me I own a KUBOTA zero turn mower got 256 hour and never a brake down I use big tractor of 100hp John Deere and new holland
Many folks don't know the difference when they are zero turn shopping so that's why we make these videos. The Ferris is one impressive machine. Thanks for watching.
Many zero turns are rigid frame and the tires and seat are your suspension. Some have a oscillating axle on the front like any tractor. With that model Ferris you actually have four wheel independent suspension. Hence the superior ride.. Tire pressure will make a difference and I have run as low as 5 lbs...
The vanguard has double torque over the Kubota 1211 which I know and u know is the about 24ish hp diesel which is the model up from yours so ya ferris for the win now if yours was probably the new 1611 then that would be a interesting test
The downfall is the fuel usage of that gas engine, that thing guzzles gas like no other....You'll be mowing circles around that gas mower with that diesel mower while someone is refilling the gas tank LOL. I have a DR Power 26" walk behind mower and it has I think around an 8HP engine, that thing barely gets my yard mowed on a tank of gas....when I had my lawn tractor with the 18HP Kohler I'd mow the yard 2-3 times...and I could mow my whole property with the pasture included 2 times with the lawn tractor, I'd have to fill up the DR mower 3x to mow the whole property LOL. That's not due to fuel tank size alone, that DR Power engine like most gas engines just guzzles fuel unfortunately.....and I don't recommend their mowers either....go with a Toro, Exmark, Scag, etc. if you want a walk behind wide area mower LOL....pay a little more and get a much better quality mower with a better engine, and better drive system.
Was that a real question? Kubota can’t keep up. Ferris is superior in EVERY WAY. The diesel Ferris is a monster with a 2.2l Cat engine, add a Curtis cab and ya have ac. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kubota and Deere, owned them, incredible machines in their own right, but Ferris dominates mowing, just PRICEY as all get out, but worth every penny.
What the *REAL* Surprise is with all this is ??? For the AMOUNT of Property YOU both are deciding to CUT to a NICE finish Regularly. HOW another Tow Behind or to the side option has NOT been integrated into the system already. Some attach Flail type units while others will use a MULTI Deck ( ALMOST ) Golf Course type of GET IT WIDE, GET IT GOOD, Get it in LESS time, Each time ( ALL ) the Time !! SUSPENION is KEY to Being C O M F O R T A B L E ( Definitely ) Some use springs , others have a version of Both air ride and More seat foam and Lumbar supports along with Back ( KIDNEY ) Options to help the FEEL of it being more REASONABLE over most any type of terrain. CANOPIES ??? ( Over-Head ) Protection ?? COMMERCIAL and Residential versus INDUSTRIAL or Multi - Function Options are like a Fart in the Wind to Some. WHY ? Say it this way?? Maneuverability and Longevity is KEY here. Bouncing, Rattling, Being at the Right or Wrong angles depending on Sun or Trees buildings can mean the OOOppppsss Factors are more or less a WASH in total NEED versus DESIRES to see it being BETTER ( NOT ) Worse. PERSOANLLY DONT WANT IT , DONT need it, Only gets in the way. That is Why Hats and Hoods are there to keep YOUR VISION without OBSTRUCTIONS to Cause ACCIDENTS !!! The BORROWED UNIT CLEARLY is BUILT for the ROUGH STUFF in Both Power and Speed - being Way more Comfortable... COST ?/ That could be a Factor when a Home owner versus BUSINESS is trying to do ( MORE ) with Way less in size and Space taking up Trailer and Hauling Versions to be used - DAILEY. In fact YOU may not know this. Some crews go at top speed almost the entire day to reduce total time spent on JOBS to increase the Amount they can get done and also keep the employees coming back REALITY is This. YOU are NOT going to JUST Drop the one over the other. MY Suggestion as is previously mentioned. CONSIDER WIDER Alternatives that can be towed behind or used in conjunction on the side. ITS NEVER to LATE to START a NEW tradition when TIME behind the Wheel Also Effects the BOTTOM Side of any Human beings feel...
Have to compare apples and apples, the Kubota is in a lower class than the Ferris, get a Kubota that compares to the Ferris. Kubota dealerships service only Kubota, I worked in a mower shop, and they mostly carried many brands, Kubota dealers only sell and service Kubota.
I wouldn't say Kubota is a lower class mower than Ferris. The ZD series is Kubota's top of the line with the diesel engine. I would say the Kubota is under powered compared to the Ferris but still a great demonstration showing off the differences since the Kubota only has a 54" deck.
kubota all day long as far as engines goes! Briggs & Stratton is just nothing but junk anymore! thats very sad! when it comes time for parts i say good luck!
@@PineyGroveHomestead yeah its just something to look at as far as break downs go! briggs and stratons quality has gone down hill over the past gew years! parts are hard to get anymore or nonexistent! its very sad!
That isn't true...I have 10 years on my 810cc B&S commercial turf engine that is on my Ferris IS700, no issues to date and I run E10 pump gas in it too.
