"repaired" my old kawasaki 185 when i was a teen and reused the old timing chain which was stretched. Engine lasted a 2 minute drive then rear tires locked up solid. Had to pick up the rear of the bike and walk in the rest of the way home. Chain snapped and piston met head lol

I forgot the second Circlip on a YZ250 build for a customer. Thankfully I saw it on the counter before the first start. But that did mean I had to pay for overnight shipping to get a new head gasket (didnt trust the already crushed *new* one I just installed) and apologize to the customer for an extra Day of waiting.

Funny you found Lani, I used his copper gaskets on my Z too--and other machines. He also has them for the Tecate 3s and 4. The great thing about copper gaskets is that they are excellent at heat transfer, but you can also use them to creep up on a specific squish tolerance. I use copper spray with mine and also anneal them (heat to a glow with a propane torch). It makes the copper softer and helps seal against leaks.
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo Год назад
I found him via 3wheelerworld forums, where I saw a picture of one of his gaskets; pretty awesome that he's making this for several vintage machines! Thank you for the tips; I will definitely be annealing mine.

I just checked out your channel and took some time to watch your CRF ASMR video. It looks like you do really good clean work and your shots are crisp. If I can offer any elevator advice, it would be to be consistent and go the extra mile. The nights where it's 2 am and you're wanting to fall over but there's just one more shot that would add a sweet touch to your video... stay up til 3 and get the shot. People will notice, even if it's only a handful in the beginning or even just one. It took me 5 years to build any type of decent sized following, don't forget that when you're wondering why the views aren't there or why similar channels with lower quality are booming - just don't quit, and don't lower you're quality; success will come with time. I hope this helps man and good luck on your journey; I subscribed!

Your copper gasket supplier does great work of making precision parts. I bought one of his head gaskets for a Mustang model 2 motor scooter from the early 50’s and it fit perfectly. Good luck with the fire up on your Tri-z. Last one of those I rebuilt was over 20 years ago. That one was built out of parts that the guy carried in all apart in 5gal buckets of at least 3 different engines. It went together fine surprisingly, although after a couple of heat cycles I had to retorque the cylinder base and head due to it spewing water everywhere. The owner didn’t feel resurfacing the jug and head were necessary and surprisingly the engine stayed together for several years before he finally replaced the rings. Great video work on this one, can’t wait to hear your Yamerhammer dingin away.

@@MichaelSabo, that was just the tip of the iceberg. It was my first year after graduating high school and began working at the local Honda dealership. Besides the customer bikes I worked on the owners collection of bikes,3 and 4 wheelers and cars. Everything from a model A truck to their mid 60’s Porsche. The family has 5 brothers, one of which was my 6th grade teacher and during that year of school my Dad had given me my first basket case. It was a CL77 Honda 305 Scrambler along with a spare CB77 of the same era. Two years after the First basket case my grandpa bought me a rust free 63 Chevy 2 nova. It’s been downhill ever since, especially after getting the antique Harley bug and working in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. While working for the Honda dealer though I did quite a few basket case projects. Everything from a. collection of 5 CA160 Dreams that a group of local Shriners went together and bought to Tecate’s Banshees and gobs of 250R’s both atc’s and trx’s. I’m enjoying watching other people take on some of the cool stuff on here though and it seems as though you’ve set yourself up pretty well. Good luck on your future builds and endeavors, I’m looking forward to the show. 👍

Oh man on those damaged radiator fins, get a new small headed medium stiff plastic scrub brush, about a 1"x1" head on it and try that. you won't believe how fast you can straighten them out. You just have to use a pick/screwdriver/whatever on the areas that are smashed flat, then just brush it in both directions. Give it a try on an old one or whatever. You won't be disappointed....✌🤘

Same thing, we ended up talking for like 45 minutes. He has cad files for nearly every base/head gasket for every bike since the seventies. And if he doesn't have it you can send him a gasket or whatever and he can make it. Awesome dude and company!

Ohh Lonnie I’ve ordered from him before! He’s the best, amazing quality and good shipping time. Only thing is usually those gaskets should have lines and perforations in 2-3 lines around perimeter of gasket to allow copper to squish and seal? Idk maybe cause it was a rush but should still work fine
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo Год назад
I know they're supposed to be annealed before each use to make them softer so they seal. Not sure if that's what you mean by the lines that are made after they're compressed.
@njmxjunkie3128
@njmxjunkie3128 Год назад
@@MichaelSabo no I’m not talking about the anealing process. These gaskets aren’t pressed (as far as I know) they are cut. In order to press them he would need specific dies for each gasket. I’m the surface of your gasket looks smooth and most have a set of 2-3 lines that follow the circumference of the whole gasket. It shouldn’t be a big deal at all. Especially since it’s a base gasket and not a head gasket. Much less pressure.

For sealing cases I cut a V notch in a strong nylon scraper tool (no clue what the tool is for) and put a bead around the case then run the tool all the way around and leaves a perfect, even, centered bead of Yamabond. Took a few times to get good at it but works great and never had a leak since (never really did before the tool but whatever). But every mechanic has their own way of doing things.
