When I heard he wanted £21 for your order, I thought, wow, now that’s inflation. Imagine, serving up dodgy food when you’re being videoed! I’d have not mentioned half-four and just cooked you two fresh sausages! He’s just torpedoed his own business!
Idk who told you the luton fish bar is the place to go in luton for fish and chips. Literally like a 5 minute drive from there is the wigmore fish and chip shop which has won national awards and is by far the best fish and chips in luton, in all the years I've lived in luton I've seen maybe 3 people in that fish bar
Surely if you owned a chippy and they were in there with a camera and being told this is a great chippy you would think hang on a minute let's get some fresh sausages on 😊
This is what we all wanted for ages. Rather than giving everything a 9+. I remember one place in Liverpool it has bad rude staff no utensils no tissue and he had issue with the food too and gave it like an 8.5/9
@@ThatGuyMofo Yea 100% agree Rate My Takeaway if there all 8s and 9s and people flock to it and its crap. Danny your such a nice chap. But call it as you see it. 21 Quid for slop.
You've got to be a special kind of stupid (or lazy) to have a guy come in doing RU-vid reviews and you toss him a sausage and saveloy that's been sitting in your warmer for three hours plus.
Apart from the road out of it is there anything good about Luton? Hope I never have any cause to go there ...very unusual to see a poor review they looked absolutely rank ....
I live in Luton and this fish bar was one of best chip shops. Then after I’m pretty sure it was the previous owner who unfortunately passed away. Ever since then it hasn’t been the same because not only is the quality worse, so is the portion size.
Yeah I noticed mention on their Facebook about the original owner passing away. I think it is possibly his kid who is commenting elsewhere on this video accusing Danny of being bribed (presumably by other local competitors) to give a bad review! 😲
Ive lived in luton most of my life never heard anyone call this the best chip shop. When they were saying they have people cueing round the corner i was thinking they meant when chicken george was there as people would cue outside past this shop to get in there lol.
I honestly think that people who say it’s grim up north have only gone as far as Luton. I’ve had the misfortune of working there a couple of towns-The place is a dump.
Thats because its full of self entitled freeloader immigrants who take take take and give nothing back but think we owe them something. One small part of britain lost. Theres more mosques than churches. Says it all really.
All the locals saying 'yeah its awesome' and 'you are really going to enjoy it', and its a total pile of crap 🤣 Any chippy that does burgers and all sorts of extra stuff is pretty much a no go in my eyes. Beer batter and fried in beef dripping is the best way!
How can you make a mess of a fish and chips to be fair? Such simple food. Either complete lack of care and just happy to push out crap, or it makes you think the shop is just a front to something else.
peeling wrap on the window and the crap visible from the inside through it thats an indicator of a bad operator no way. And all the well wishers family members sent to tell you how amazing it is....
I reckon Danny meant it, D1GG. Some of these folk will tell ya black is white if it suits 'em. They're known for not sleighting their "own". It may improve , with time.
I loved the bit when he moved you on in the conversation when you rightly picked him up on the advertising deal with the football club … good honest review . Great vid .
I knew the Luton episode was coming because I was waiting at the bus stop and I saw the van drive by! If you come to Luton again Danny go to the Wigmore Fish and Chips takeaway if you want a chippy. If you want to try something else then go to Maysek for a Chinese and definitely get Norms Carribbean. That curried goat is to die for!
I have to make another comment, because for me, this sums the bad side of modern England up perfectly. Overpriced, poor service (yeah, we don’t do batter at this time mate), poor quality, but loads of marketing, like the guy coming up talking about how it’s great and there’s loads of history. A nation of second hand car salesman. 😅
@@actiondork I agree. I think we follow the US in the UK and have done so since the 80s. When you travel, you really see the difference. We need to up our game.
@@Foot_Sandwich same with the music scene. "We are a nation of great music" "the UK market is second only to America" yeah maybe 30-40 years ago but not today. When Eurovision comes around every year "we could win every year if we wanted" erm... no. We were the innovators. We are no longer innovators.
@@Foot_Sandwich You hit the nail on the head, stop with all the American fast food and create your own stuff sooner than the crap we eat that makes us Fat.
That's very true, we do still have numerous traditional English Fish 'n' Chips up here in the North ran by actual English folk which is absolutely delicious, but mostly only found up in the small towns and villages in the hillside.
@JynxedKoma Actual English folk? 😂 You do realise battered fish and chips was pioneered by Jews in East London. Anyways, I've had some shocking fish and chips up north, and shocking food in general. But I've also had good food. Same in London, same everywhere. I grew up in London in the 80s. Amazing chippies, many run by Greeks and Turks. Now Iranians. Wind your neck in, lad.
You wouldn't know your arse from your own head, so I wouldn't expect you to admit northern fish and chips to be the best. Just like I wouldn't trust you with grammar "Mansnobot". It's people like you that have ruined London. @@mansnotbot4160
I’m a Lutonian and I’ve never heard of that place! Miss Chicken George… now that’s tasty food! Should’ve tried Limbury. Gravy not a thing down Luton way lol.
I am from Luton and know of this Fish and Chip shop Regarding your food order the batter on the fish look claggy just like you said and those sausages well what can I say they been cooked hours ago, You would have thought that they would have made an effort as they were going to be viewed on youtube, always buy fresh when possible. Now I know not to buy my supper from this establishment. Good honest review/ Video.
I saw you there Danny! You took a swig of your orange fanta and was instantly disappointed because it was warm! You looked into the window to see if he had given you the one off the shelf ! 😂
Think you should have gone to Luton Town fish and chips in Limbury Mead a few miles away 👍This place has always been gopping even before it was refitted👍
The first sausage looked like it needed to be circumcised and I haven't heard anything as crunchy as the second sausage since I ate raw carrots😂 Brave man Danny❤
Hi Danny.A place I suggest and highly recommend is bedders in small Heath Birmingham.Extremely popular for its fish and chips with onions on the fish .You also must try the mushy peas and curry sauce.I also recommend the sausages aswell which are divine. Opening hours are Mon-thurs 11.30-2pm Friday 11.30 -2pm and then reopens at 4pm-7.30pm Saturday 11:30-2pm Hope to see you there hopefully soon.
I've lived in the city my whole life but never managed to go because of it's limited opening hours. I do love that it's so old fashioned and still thriving in an area filled with more modern style chippy's / kebab shops.
@@NH-tv3jr I know exactly what you mean about location 😁 I still need to try it. Mother Hubbard in Erdington by Burger King is probably my favourite easily.
The only good Takeaway that I know of in Luton is Chicken George. Its now shut down but they have a shop in Hitchin, Which is about 10/15 mins drive from Luton. I highly reccomend it.
@@Land-of-reason We do but they are not the same, its rare to find the exact same thing in the USA, in 40 years I've seen it twice. Fish are usually fish pieces, you will get 3 or 4, usually Cod, Chips in many cases are fries, sometimes battered fries or skin on, no problem, I've had some terrific Pacific Cod here in the states which rivals Atlantic Cod, it could have been in breadcrumbs, panko or tempura, I can say its very nice, but the prices are so much higher than the UK's, No mushy peas curry sauce or gravy, and certainly no chip butties, American's do not understand Chip Butties and think they are Nasty.
@@rbnhd1144 interesting. Sounds really nice. In some parts of the UK (the West Midlands) they put a light battering on the chips which gives them an orange colour. I’m not struck on putting batter on fish, however, it is probably done to keep it together in the frying process. Traditionally you could get cod roe but you don’t see much of that these days. The modern fishing factory ships tend to put it into tins whilst at sea (it’s not so good). My friends who visit the US for Naval sea trials are very keen on your fish restaurants and shellfish. The US is a superb place.
You need to try the fish and chips at the Dolphine Cafe in Peterhead - landed in the morning, on your plate at lunchtime. Maybe a wee bit of a trek though 😂
I have a very strong memory having fish and chips here when about 12yo, circumstance and thinking it could never be ‘as good’ have kept me away (cough 30 years now…) But 12yo me would give it a solid 10.
I used to live in Flitwick and still go there for F & C even though there are 2 local to me in Houghton regis tried one of them and the batter was soggy underneath so now play safe and go to Flitwick.
You could tell that sausage and saveloy was rank by looking at it you're a brave man to try them, the people seemed friendly though and the guy who served you seemed friendly too. Hopefully he sees this and learns from it. I swear i heard cameraman laughing too or was i hearing things lol?
Southern and Northern Fish and chips are completely different. I spent 3 months renovating my sons house in Leeds and was amazed at the quality of the fish and chips. The defining difference is the crispness of the batter which is down to been cooked in beef dripping that has a high cooking temperature (around 190C). Vegetable oil used south of the country from Sheffield downwards creates a crispness that is short lived which turns into an almost bread like batter (as seen in this vid). Its a science ting 👍😊
I haven't had chips up north yet but I'd be massively surprised if they cooked in dripping, in 2024. So many vegetarians and people with incompatible religions. Near Birmingham there is the "black country museum" which has a period correct Victorian style chippy that uses dripping. But that is a museum!
No uniform, no hygiene rating geezer in a hoodie and baseball cap frying to order for you ...what could go wrong? Can't even get the saveloy right, most chippies have them sitting in a bowl of water to keep them from shriveling up. That cod had 24hrs on the shitter written all over it. A 3 was generous TBF. Wigmore chippy about half a mile from there is the best in Luton but it is massively overpriced. Who the hell was recommending this place, apart from friends and family?
Nice to see some real honesty; could have just been a bad day for them - I've gone to the same chippy at Wombwell for about 5 years, banging 90% of the time, but when it's "iffy" it's throw it in the bin tackle.
I don’t know who told you prior to your visit that was the best chip shop in Luton but I can tell you they are mistaken. Wigmore South Luton or Pepe’s North Luton are the two I’d choose from depending on what end of Luton I was closest to and both of them are closer to the M1 motorway than the shop you visited.
Thick wet stodgy batter underneath top layer this should never be from a professional chippy , Depending where fish came from you may end up with frozen and defrosted fish twice . If held to much water in fish you can get wet soggy uncooked batter, Or if to much flour is stuck to wet fish before the batter this can give steamed flour and batter mix, and if batter mix to thick,or even if temp ain`t correct batter will soak to much oil hens soggy batter, If it smelt not right could be old oil as oil prices shot up , the oil may not be changed so often. if to much water from the defrosting , is held in the fish this will also keep the better soggy and uncooked, as fish goes in the oil , outer batter forms a some what seal, then water comes out of fish then to much water gets trapped and the batter ends up steamed, hence soggy underneath batter, Some times fish might of been frozen defrosted then frozen again and then defrosted from boat to being cooked depends where it came from, funny how uncooked batter can tell you allot !! Ask where the sausages came from , he possibly over cooked them as well hens dry, Should of taken it back in and demanded money back, should of told him there`s a funny taste to the fish why should the customer put up with them terrible standards,at any price, If you eat in any establishment and it ain`t cooked correct or does not taste right you get the money back, why should a chip shop be any different, Its a shame the bloke did not return who said you won`t be disappoint, you could of offered him your fish and chips on the house,
You was brave visiting Luton lol. I only live 20 mins away from Luton and I would never go to Luton unless for a flight . I get many people try and book me in for carpet cleaning but I refuse all the time if they are from Luton . lol
About 5 years ago I was sent to Luton with 3 work colleagues to train staff in our Luton office we were meant to be there for 2 weeks anyway we got off the train went to the hotel took one look at the place and all 4 of us at just about the same time said what time is the next train back to Newcastle we got a taxi back to the train station and got on the next train back to Newcastle lol. We called our manager and told him we’re not staying in Luton and to expect us back in the Newcastle office in the morning. We later found out another lot of people from another office that was sent to train the Luton office did the same as us a couple of days later lol
It would be interesting to know whether the chips are cut on the premises or frozen. Many of the chippys have gone down the frozen root and the quality has gone down hill.
@Land-of-reason .........these dont look like they were cut on premises.............these types of owners put least amount of effort in and charge unbelievers as much as they can get.
that's the first honest opinion i've seen you give.................... all i can say is "it's about bloody time Danny" .... keep up with the honest vids bud!
Alarm bells were ringing here when the guy made some statement about having a battered sausage after 4pm because their fresher. What are you serious. As for the sausages that Danny received they looked days old and inedible. Absolutely disgusting food. Even when Danny smelt the fish he knew it just wasn’t right. As for blowing dust of the canned drink that just said it all. Definitely another “East West Spice” in Scotland.
You know you are in trouble when the batter looks like a donut on the inside. Shocked it even got that score it deserved a 1 (those sausages are the worst I have ever seen in my life wow)
@@diegoforlan2324 - As in from the Indian subcontinent which contains a few different countries. Didn't want to just say 'Indian' or 'Indian-looking' because they could well be from one of the similar neighbouring countries.
@@diegoforlan2324 - No, you totally missed my point. I said they were subcontinental-looking. That doesn't mean I was suggesting that they weren't also British. You *have* to go to the Admiral Blake in Bridgwater in Somerset. It'll be a way for you but it's absolutely hands down the best chippy I've ever been to without being fancy and messed about. They do it so well. I travel especially for it. Should make up for what happened here!
How much? Bloody hell. I had fish, a small portion of chips and some curry sauce for my tea on Friday. £6.20. The fish is always cooked to order so it's not sat about sweating in those cabinets.
Where the hell was that? I'm not exaggerating, but where I am it's impossible to get fish and chips for under £15 and that's from the average shops. A place like Kennedy's Fish Bar you're looking near enough £20
@@asadzeethree2726 .... near me its approx £8.50 for large haddock and chips (enough for 2 folk to share) .........very fresh and cooked to order.........there are cheaper places but i wouldnt give them £.
