I immediately invested in toughbuilt boxes when I saw how fast they fixed issues that people pointed out. Plus their upcoming releases for 2024 looks awesome
Toughbilt will not be releasing their rolling drawers until Summer 2024. Ridgid is releasing rolling drawers now. 3 drawer unit in a few weeks They will be the only brand with rolling drawers. Plus, their wheel cart is removable. SKU numbers have already been assigned at Home Depot for the drawer box and the wheel cart. Ridgid 2 drawer and 4 drawer boxes will be released in Q1 2024. So by spring Ridgid will have 2, 3, & 4 drawer rolling stackable units. IMHO TB should have debuted with rolling drawers right out of the gate. That would make them a Packout & Modbox killer
Spent 1 hours analyzing all the tool at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Tough Build is well built, lifetime warranty, & price made the most sense. Most importantly the steel rail support is strong. Was able to mod mine with some heavy duty caster made transportation much more easier
Same. The drawers with wooden top will be great for kitchen setups. The wooden tops can slide and I'd bet you can put two on one, meeting halfway, and have a bigger work surface for cooking.
Great review! Thanks for the insightful review. Tool users and organization addicts are very fortunate have you sharing your insights and also helping those considering buying this type of product!
Sticker tip... once removed, use the sticker itself to dab/press down on the residue... removes in seconds. goo-gone tends to break down the residue, and makes a mess. Using the adhesive from the back of the "removed sticker" is more of a mechanical removal.
I'm glad they went with an open crate off the bat. That should always be a #1 item with these rolling storage systems. I'm really looking forward to getting this system, however, based on your notes, I will most likely wait until the design updates in 2024. I use ToughBuilt's belt pouch every day, and I am a big fan of the quality.
They are rolling tool boxes, but also used for hobbyists and other activities. I use combo of Packout and Ridgid for my camping gear and camp kitchen. They are a lot cheaper than the Roam and Pelican boxes marketed at Overlanders. The Toughbuilt appear very sleek, clean, and sophisticated, and I was impressed in person with them. I’m already planning an upgrade when the drawer system comes out.
They almost could have dropped right in with the drawers first. Some of us are dying for good drawer systems in a product segment full of flip-top boxes.
I probably have 5 of their roller set. This Hands Down is the VERY Best Tool System I have Ever Used! I can carry 3-4 hundred pounds so easily anywhere I usually have to go Easily! Thanks, ToughBuilt! I will be buying More tools and more toolboxes from ToughBuilt! Love these, Everyday I use them!
I've purchased 5 and the ammo crate! 300+ later It has helped me organize my pickup truck tools and get some smaller tools out of my big job box. The #1 item I would like to see released is the wall mounting bracket for the boxes and I will be set!
You nailed it when you said Milwaukee ignores their customers. They say the they listen to their customer feedback but that has not been my experience unfortunately. The handle is one example now people are modifying their bottom, rolling trunk into a drawer. I’ve said this before about Milwaukee. They seem to be tone, deaf to what’s going on around them.
I've been a huge toughbuilt fan for years when I first got the clipteck drill holster. Now every time I go to Lowe's I look for new toughbuilt hand tools. I was super excited when I saw them release their stacktech system and already have one of everything they release and doubles of a few of them. Not being able to open lower boxes so easily or not being able to stack on top the tote and small box is not an issue I have a problem with. I absolutely love them and the only thing I do wish was different would be having the divider in the tote be removable. Not an issue that prevented me from getting them and I can't wait for others to be released and accessories to be released
Personally I don’t think they’re that big of issues either. Just pointed them out for the more persnickety people. Please come back and let us know your thoughts on the items you got on future videos! 👍
@lukenance1088 right, being the boxes now come out with pegs to hang the boxes on the wall it would make an ideal garage storage to have drawers and drawers of organization (at half the price of packout)
It's not looking good. I'm having tons of trouble finding the compact organizers, even contacted ridgid and they said keter makes them so we dunno basically. They don't seem to be all in on this new system at all. Maybe they're not selling enough which is a shame because it's the best value in my opinion
I am beyond excited for this set up! And can’t wait to buy into it! Seem far superior to anything else out there even given the issues. A few things I see…. - the rolling box handle. Why does it have to pull out? Why can’t it collapse all the way down like suitcase luggage? Then I don’t have to take it out and put it in… -the ammo box tray versus the large box tray. Definitely a detractors they aren’t the same size. No, it’s likely I won’t cross load them often but it will happen. Why are they different? Why not be the same? -the tool tote. A comment I’ve seen else where I agree with…why nothing for the clip tech like a rail hubs? -I love the dewalt tote that is a zippered bag that it’s like a duffle bag for hand tools locks into the toughsystem 2.0. I want to see a version of that! -when will the Lowe’s exclusive end? I have a Lowe’s 1.5 hours north and one the same south…too far away. When will this be available at Home Depot or my local building materials supplier?
I have not put hands on one of the systems but I do own some of their other tools. Everything I have purchased from Toughbuilt does indeed live up to its namesake. I currently use Packout and I am very satisfied with them, no complaints at all. I am nearing the point of needing some more boxes. To be honest I am looking forward to what you design for the Toughbuilt series. Thanks for the video and review brother.
Thanks for the tip on the Lowe’s buy more save more, can get the 3 box set for 268 but with the buy more save more you can get the 3 box set and the tool bag or a different box for 258
You are the most thorough channel I’ve ever seen covering these sets. I am thinking on returning my new 4 drawer and 2 drawer pack out boxes and wait for the 4 drawer toughbuilt box to come out
Completely modular base system is a huge game-changer. I want my base unit with wheels to be a drawer, not a lidded case, as most of my gear is lightweight enough that drawers are fine and allow me to access everything without de-stacking. Being able to break up a big stack of drawers to load in my sedan, then lock those all together on wheels for on-the-job movement will be incredible. These also look like they’re avoiding unnecessary geometry. They may be heavier, but I’d be curious what the exterior volume to interior volume ratio might be, because I suspect it’s better than most other systems. I’m in the film/tv industry, and I already want to make custom metal corners for these, but with fittings for my industry: 1/4-20 and 3/8 threaded holes, as well as Arri locator pins.
Have you watched my ridgid 2.0 video? If they get their drawers out it might be what you need. I also have a 1/4-20 PRA for Packout corner rails. And will make them for toughbuilt in the next few weeks 👍
@@JakeWeihe yes, I’ve been all over your channel the last two days! I think I prefer the single latch of the ToughBuilt over the double latch of the Ridgid, and in my industry, the flat top “storage tray” will be VERY useful. Also I like the front interconnect over Ridgid’s dual side interconnect. I’m not concerned about the ToughBuilt requiring destack to get into lower bins, as I’ll be doing all drawers.
I'm in a tough spot, I was mistakenly sent the Flex Rolling Toolbox instead of the Toughbilt one and I really like it. I prefer the front handle, like the gas struts, and the internal attachments for bit boxes. But the Toughbilt accessory attachment system is easier to adjust and I already have the Toughbilt modular tool pouches. Plus the TB attachments seem more useful...guess I'm going to have to take a trip to Lowe's to compare.
I love your reviews, This one is exceptionally fantastic...!!! I've Been using the Ridgid 2.0 line, I do like their rolling box, and overall it's a decent system but, the side latches have worn out on some of my boxes. The clips that the side bars clip into are plastic hook design, bound to wear out. I'm definitely switching to ToughBuilt system based on your review. I dig the accessories you have developed for the Packouts, Looking forward to what you come up with for Toughbuilt.
The stacking of 2 half box issue is the main concern, a design flaw. Once they release the shims to fix it, it should be free. Since the newer box will fix this issue with new design, the shims should be free. ECO offer free drift kits for their snowblower that are older and have drift issue.
Haven't even watched your full video yet (will be done in a few) but I recently replaced my Ridgid brand system with Toughbuilt Stacktech. I'm very happy with them thus far.
If milwaukee didnt make so many cool m12 and m18 attachments I'd be more prone to buy some stacktech for myself. That being said I did buy stacktech for my friend as a gift because of the ease of use. (Roller box, large box, crate, and two compacts for $284-ish) I see stacktech taking 2nd place very quickly, and I wouldn't be surprised if they eclipse Milwaukee someday, but that would take quite some time and continued improvement. Im very impressed with stacktech and would recommend them over packout unless you want some of the specialty attachments milwaukee offers (me). This is the people's modular toolbox and the only one worth considering other than packout.
It would be nice if you could open the boxes in the middle of the stack or lower without removing the upper stacks. I’m super stoked to see the hand cart added to the collection as well as a few other items that were mentioned in the literature that came with the boxes.
just saw this video, and immediately made my purchase, as i needed something better for in the truck. BIGGEST con is not being able to open up something on a lower level. but as i wont be using for jobsites, just personal use.. i'm not terribly bothered. started with the medium tool box, for a bse, with the tool bag/tote and cooler. will add more later but this is the perfect setup for in the truck right now.
I'm just wondering now that the amount of distance it needs to be lifted to open one under it is quite small, would it be possible mod it slightly to be able to have it the way it supposed to be? Like little material that need sto be taken of of the latch and/or top bottom chest?
Last time I bought a system like this was in 2020 and it was Husky Connect and Packout on the shelves at my local stores. I’ve undertaken far more projects and have many more tools with more to come. I was really surprised to see so many options out there. I mostly am doing DIY home renovations, but also woodworking and mechanic related work. One feature I’m finding missing from many brands is inserts that firmly secure your tools, instead of them piling into a bin. Dewalt and packout so far have the best foam and I like the dewalt insert trays. One thing I want to find is a good system for my sockets and ratchets from various brands. I’ve got everything from snap on to harbor freight and I would like an organizer that accepts universal sockets. For my low use tools, I’m considering the tstak/versa stack tool boxes. They aren’t as large or hefty as the suitcase tool box from tough built (which I was impressed with) but they are smaller. I’ve only gotta hold one tool in some foam and a few bits/adapters/blades. Price point makes low value tool storage in these simple cases appealing.
I just bought the ammo can as a car tag along so I could keep my metric/u.s. separate. It does well I fit all my sockets, box ends and my 16” proto 1/2” drive in the bottom with my ratchets in the top. Very pleased with this system will be expanding to tough built for a first stacking system
It would be interesting to see a comparison of all the modular drawers, I am an auto tech and I find the drawers to be more useful, I have a good amount of tstak and versastack and I am thinking of upgrading. Comparing drawer sizes, locking ability, possibly the amount of weight that a drawer can hold.
Milwaukee is running their Buy more Save more as well, so it brings the price down more, depending on how much you spend. Also, I just looked and the 3 piece PO Starter kit is only $197.10 for black Friday sales event, special buy.
@JakeWeihe I've heard that, but only from RU-vid comments. I would have thought there would have been some advertising. I'm looking forward to trying it though
Excellent review!! Surprised you never mentioned Dewalt…. I went with the ToughSystem because of availability and diversity. Very interested in seeing more from StackTech
With the stacking issue fix on its way, and the brilliance of the accessory rails, it’s a no brainer. For me being fairly invested in the packout system, now is not the time to switch. Next year..
I definitely like the dolly/cart option. I have been asking Milwaukee for one of those for a long time. Yes, Milwaukee has a PO dolly, but it is limited in use. I also like their transporter stand.
I just bought into stacktech, and I am fairly happy so far. One issue I found is with the cable puller. It needs a way to extend off the tool boxes so bigger rolls could be used
My one big thought on the stacking system is that the mechanics are all in the bottom of the box, not the top. This means that if i wanted to design a custom base plate for mounting onto the top, I'm fairly certain it would require at least some spring latch to connect it to the box below. This would make a lot of ideas like buying a separate box and attaching cleats of some sort to the bottom not as easily doable.
True. I make that point about other boxes in another video but forgot to mention it here. I think 3rd party makers like stack smarter will figure it out. Worse case scenario you'll have to resort to attaching the different base with straps.
@@JakeWeiheas well, have you looked at toughbuilts stock prices, and how they're possible lack of longevity could hurt their ability to make these? I'm no economist, but I imagine going from $77 to $2 from 2021 to 2022 I and from $2 to $.20 can't bode well for their lifespan, and warranty promises.
A great review....i had to test it out in person. Overall it is a very impressive system though I see the lock/unlock latch a issue since it sticks out and likely will be broken off at some point. A flat finger hole like the on the packout would be a long-term improvement that would match the premium level of this system and products. If they can match the packout options, this is the one. There also needs a higher connection point or a strp to better support the handle and lessen the deflection when moving a stack around - a future WD product for all stacking systems.
Very thorough video. Biggest concern is the weight which is multiplied once you add all your accessories and tools. Packout is already heavy but manageable. Anything more might make me want to leave things out which might not be such a good thing when you need something on the job. This is a big reason why I won’t use the 38in Packout rolling tool chest. It’s big and very heavy loaded up.
I would like to see them have a similar handle like the MODbox with spots to slide a level in. Thats just a better way to do it and you dont need to remove the leve to get into any box.
Damn.... Damn... I'm going to buy a new system. It was a tough decision between Milwaukee and Klein. I use Milwaukee power tools and I am a commercial electrician. But I've also used tough built tool belts and tool pouches for years. Now I'm even more torn.... I like how heavy and tough it is... Gosh...
Jake: Make a base plate with Velcro so you can put a box in a trunk of a car for: tools, first aid, groceries, sports equipment or camping gear. If a more robust baseplate was made with a locking slide, box compatibility combined with the accessibility would blow open the high priced overlanding gear market. v/r wh
It also occurred to me that you could market adapter plates to mix and match brands for folks who already invested in a kit and are at the limits of the available accessories or desire the features of a particular brand accessory and would like to incorporate it to their preferred system.
I could see myself using the boxes as a cutting surface when framing with a circular saw at times. There seems to be enough height in the rims to accommodate registration notches to fit up to a 2x6, laid across the box.
One drawback for me is the weight. They are very heavy and quite large. The drawer system is available at lowes now. I was checking it out yesterday. Impressive, but not for me. Thanks for the review . ok, i caved and bought into the system and i love them!
Milwaukee definitely missed out on designing accessories for their boxes when they had the chance and never seemed to embrace the metal corners the essentially pioneered
these box do look good, wish they just had top handles like the dewalt 2.0 tough system. dewalt 2.0 is best system so far apart from their draws. Milwaukee is way harder system to use they lack in side and top handles
Hell yeah. Give milwaukee some competition, their packout system is getting thinner and thinner and more fragile while getting more and more expensive.
I use packout, but there are alot of things other manufacturers have done to their products that Milwaukee should have or should employ with their system.
I REALLY like the stacktech design, build quality and refined appearance. My biggest hesitation is the state of the brand itself. It seems the company is struggling (stock-wise) and has made suspiciously more promises for compatible products that frankly seem too good to be true.
I like that you have your own page. Great idea! I see a lot of decent items that I would like to purchase the problem with your pages. I got to search your entire page just to find them. So to help you out, set your web page according to the tool brand. If it's Milwaukee section everything for Milwaukee under Milwaukee because your first two items are Milwaukee your Third item is rigid or tough systems? I'm sorry I don't care about anything but Milwaukee so that's all I would like to see is just Milwaukee products. So after scrolling about five different items I gave up because I'm not scrolling all the way down to the bottom of your web page just to find items that I would like to purchase
I wasnt going to condsider toughbuilt for a buy but sibce you showed whats coming out this i may have to wait and really consider this. I havd their tool brelt and some tools and really like them. I was also considering the kleine and the flex one. I currentky have a dewalt 2.0 which is nice but very basic wirh no accessories. I just might sell it in craigslist and use thst money to buy one of these better ones. Your videos are very informative thanks
ToughBuilt's *replaceable* steel corners and heavier (more durable?) construction is a significant benefit. I like their (IP65) weather seal design. ToughBuilt needs to get rid of all those nuisance stickers. If ToughBuilt goes the top stacking adapter plate route it would be beneficial to incorporate steel (or magnetic) strips into the adapter plate for magnetic parts/disassembly trays. Overall, ToughBuilt off to a great start. The fact that ToughBuilt is (currently) a smaller company should provide an extra advantage when it comes to being more responsive to customers. Lastly, regarding these portable storage systems, I prefer conventional pneumatic or foam-filled rubber tires over all the ‘low-budget’ plastic hub wheels these systems are using, especially when used on jobsites where water and mud can be commonplace.
Wish they'd integrate the transparent cover with the base on those slim organizers. Lost count how many times I've seized the packout organizer handle, and the cover has spilled open when forgetting to latch. Screws/fixings everywhere - many expletives involved....
@Jake One thing I think you could sell for StackTech is plastic replacements for the metal corners. Many people, like myself, may never use those metal plates and would either take them off or replace them with something to cover the gap. You're welcome for the idea. :D Another cool quick vid would be a stat comparison between all the different boxes in something like a spreadsheet, including ST's stats.
Have been looking into a modular system and this one piqued my interest. The company makes very thoughtful and well made stuff. I hope they are able to actually release and sell all the pieces they have planned. The company is under some serious financial strain so a bankruptcy or forced buyout could curtail the vision they seem to be going for.
Great video man! I'm really looking forward to these! I think they will give packout a run for their money and I am planning on converting over to tough built from here on out as I find packout to be overpriced for what it is.
I bought 2 complete systems at launch and love it so far! Just seen your review and agree with you on the improvements. I’d like to see a front opening case for sure. Also would be cool if toughbuilt teamed up with someone like EcoFlow to create a battery stack. Can you cover the cooler and tow hitch plate when they come in?
ToughBuilt need to make a large box with a folding handle who tf turning the current large toolbox they have in their lineup sideways to use the side handle.
I love the Toughbuilt brand. I have tons of clips and pouches. I have over 50+ DeWalt toughsystem boxes. All of Which have top handles on the large boxes. The B50 box should have a top handle. Even if you used the front handle the contents of the tray inside would dump all over. Using two hands to carry boxes is annoying. I tend to carry more than one box at a time on and off the job site when necessary. Would love to hear your opinion.
True. That is one feature it’s missing. I love the top handle on Packout and modbox. I’ll tell Devin from stacksmarter to make a top handle for the b50
Rigid original design was great, simple, and durable and large handles. I've had my Rigid setup for over 10 years! Only problem is where are their drawer units !!???. Theses Tough Built have a nice latch system , better than sliding a heavy box like Milwaukee. Just wondering if the latch system will last?
If someone was considering buying one of these at systems now, would you wait a few months into the new year hoping for product improvements or dive in now at holiday prices?
The best prices of the year are happening right now. I started with just the piece Packout stack a few years ago and slowly built up from there. Just get the pieces you know you’ll use and make sure they do what they’re supposed to do before walking out the store ( I’ve seen messed up boxes in stores from all the brands)
