The Modular Toolbox Market is continually growing and becoming more and more competitive! Husky Build-Out is is the latest addition and is now available at Home Depot. For a relatively low price tag, this system delivers a LOT and could turn out to be PACKOUT's biggest competition!
I cover Build-Outs main features in this First Impressions video and this system is packed with some clear innovation compared to other systems that have entered the market recently.
SUBSCRIBE AND HIT THE BELL ICON to be notified of a future detailed comparison video with Packout and Ridgid Pro Gear 2.0! Comment below if there are any features you want to see more of in that video.

Great presentation! I have had my Packout system for a while now and am very satisfied with them, they have held up nicely. Additionally, as others have mentioned, there is a ton of factory and aftermarket accessories available for custom configurations. As the Husky boxes are at a good price point, I would consider them for other applications.

Thank you, you are the first i have seen to review this system. It seems to be along the Ridgid line with a couple mods. Its decent i guess but other than that little clear organizer fitting in a couple places it doesn't offer much in the way of organizing your tools. Once again a center mounted handle and two hands to unlock a box. The outer rail is a plus, seems like OP can do a few things with that. Thanks again for the review brother .

I have a full set of the Ridgid system I use for my camping chuck box, and I have 2 Packout small parts trays with the rack mounted on the wall of my trailer. Both are great systems, but it’s good to see Husky deliver a much more affordable product. I know a lot of contractors and tradesmen, and spending 1000 bucks on a tool box hurts.

I just bought this from Home Depot. I returned the Dewalt tough box when I saw this. The Dewalt is great but the Husky is lighter and tough enough for what I need for work. This is one of my best tool purchases so far.

Looks pretty decent, but for the price point it's fantastic. I'll keep using my packout system for every day at work, but I might just pick up this husky one for camping gear! The little internal organizers look great as tackle boxes and little kits for carabiners, fire starting, etc.

I was very impressed. This is not thin cheap plastic it’s actually pretty rigid like packout. The connections don’t feel cheap and it has some awesome features. I’d put it at number 2 behind packout, for the money it’s competitive.

First two features sold me on it already. Nothing like having a table or something to work off of in the field. Also, the Milwaukee always felt cheap to me. Especially the wheels. Glad these have rubber one. Usually just carry veto totes/bags and a belt but I'm getting old. Imma check it out.

I hope they put a magnet with the system like it is on the Klein, put some drawers with this kit and bigger and longer box for those larger and longer tools, then they will pick up some new customers like myself. I like how reasonable those accessories are. Everyone keeps changing their boxes so you have to reinvest in another kit because they're not expanding it anymore.Smh. I hope husky keeps this set going and expand it. They are on to something. Thanks for sharing

The closures are no joke. I caught the side of my finger in one the other day and it f'n hurt! For those who are waiting for add-ons - I realize not everyone has a 3D printer, but I'm assuming most of you have reasonable skills and all sorts of tools. I've been making add-ons from scratch and from other things I find at home and at stores. They'll work for what I need them for until when/if Husky comes out with something better for my needs. It really depends on what each individual uses their toolboxes for and how they use them.

For similar price point, the Craftsman tradestack imo is leaps better than the husky for the sole fact, the lids don't hit the handle. Tradestack lids also have detents so the lids stay locked open when completely up. Tradestack also has DRAWERS, which is big for me. Love having drawers. Plus with the tradestack, dewalt Tstak and Versa stack works with it with an included adapter plate if you buy the roller base. So much more versatility with the tradestack IMO. Good video though!

Looks like a good system. Will have to see it in person. I have the Milwaukee packout and love it. However, similar problem going to be with this version with the tray feature in the top lid of the small tool box - going to hold an ass load of water from the rain when in the back of my truck. It’s a pain with the Milwaukee system, too.

I’ve been leaning towards the Dewalt system because of the water/dust sealing. My main truck has a cap on it but my backup truck is just an open bed. You didn’t mention it but looks like there is a red gasket on the Husky lids that would make them seal as well. Definitely worth considering, but I do want small parts/tool organizers and drawers too.

@Mando98
@Mando98 11 месяцев назад
I think the main reason why packout is the most popular is because of all the different tool boxes and accessories as well as the one-handed release mechanism. I was considering flex but for the same price with much less attachments/boxes and a two-handed release mechanism, I might just go with packout once my Toughbuilt XL rolling tool bag can’t fit most of my essentials/ breaks down. This husky built out feels really solid since my Home Depot is full of them but I do not like the two-handed release system. It is very affordable and I can only imagine it getting even cheaper during the holiday deals so that’ll be interesting. It is already beating out the craftsman and kobalts for similar quality with a better price. Once they decide to make drawers, these can become people’s affordable favorites. Great video as always!

@@JakeWeihe agreed! I love my pouches and the rolling bag! Their hand tools also seem really good but all I have from them is a pair of 10 inch channel locks that were on clearance at my Lowe’s that I’ve yet to use. 7:00 He talks about the connect/disconnectors being "two handed opperation" and says a few brands that are two handed. Though, he puts Rigid in there... From my experience, considering i have rigid 2.0 in the cab of my truck and in our big trailer, Rigid boxes are easily 1 handed. Pop the bar off and then move it slightly sideways and the other comes out. THen just pull by the connection bar closest to you. You can disconnect and tote the rigid boxes 100% with one hand.

In the Connect system (as well as some others) putting the handle down makes it act as a foot, that keeps the box from tipping over as easily. You're supposed to put the handle down to keep it stable. I imagine that's why they don't fix the lid/handle issue.
@JakeWeihe

Yeah the handle doesn’t touch the ground. The rolling box has a much wider stance than the connect system. The connect system is tiny in comparison to all these other boxes

@PartyTimeProDJs
@PartyTimeProDJs 11 месяцев назад
Might be ok for the weekend warrier/homeowner. Don’t see it as adaptable for professionals. Having the latches on the sides means these are going to take up more space. You’ll always have either have nothing on either side in order to access the latches. Or you’ll have to pull out the stack in order to access the latches. Not having drawers is a deal breaker as well. I can’t see husky investing tons of money in adding accessories. I can’t see how the latching system would allow half cases either. I just don’t see how this system will be superior to Milwaukee for lots of reasons. (For the record, I’m mostly a Dewalt guy using all Packout).

Drawers I want drawers! Those are most important to me so I can access everything without unstacking. The connect drawers are only $40. That’s why I use husky connect. To get a bigger drawer I cut the bottom off of the top drawer. If Packout was cheaper I would have bought those. Ideally the dolly with the packout cabinet and drawers but too much money. I don’t even need it to slide just a hinged door from the front for easy access like the Packout cabinet. None of the rolling tool box prioritizes this. Here's my observation: this is a viable Packout alternative because the most important feature is just the size of the box. Packout is obviously the best overall, and the shameless clones of its name and look are sad, lol, but once you reach the size and BASIC features of the Packout, you're like 99% of the way to the same thing. It's a box for other stuff. Corollary: the difference between different SIZE/WEIGHT systems is bigger than the difference in features/quality between systems of different COSTS. You will gain more benefit by shunning brand loyalty and introducing more brand variety into your work space. Not every tool or job needs the biggest and heaviest box you have, regardless of the cost. Corollary: adding more organization tools to your existing storage system may provide more benefit than switching systems. I'm befuddled that companies don't offer and support more accessories like hooks and dividers and containers. It's great that Jake is designing and selling his own accessories. Just having the right size cups for your parts is really nice, but really difficult to get officially. These third-party accessories are a real opportunity for people to upgrade the storage they already have.

Make a clip or latch that holds up the lid to the handle.

Or just put the handle down, like you're supposed to. It's not that hard to do and it makes the stack more stable.

I still think the husky won't last those springs will wear out quick. They look cheap especially the inserts. The clips will fall off the rails if you bang it by accident

I just gotta say great video but theres a reason the packout is the top in price and use. Ive tried them all. Load them with actual tools not hand tools and tell me which ones hold. Only construction workers know about this.
@JakeWeihe
@JakeWeihe 11 месяцев назад
Thanks. Husky buildout is brand new and has a lot of potential. It holds a box full of hand tools just fine and that probably weighs more than a variety of “actual” power tools.

Woah so home depot has a monopopy on tool boxes? That is just sad. Is there a y other store that carries rigid 2.0 boxes?
@JakeWeihe
@JakeWeihe 11 месяцев назад
I wouldn’t call it a monopoly just yet. Packout is sold at other stores, Dewalt is sold at other stores, flex is not sold at Home Depot and about 11 other brands aren’t sold at Home Depot

@@JakeWeiheyeah, but rigid and husky seem to be exclusives. Which is bad. I hate i cannot buy from outside usa or europe. The funny part? They have an overseas shipping department but its geolocked… 😂
