I think that the quality of Uniqlo is the reason why more designers are willing to work with them. They know they are not risking their reputation. I have a Merimekko dress from a couple of years ago that I LOVE. And a black sweater that after 6 yrs is starting to show its wear. (And I have worn it a lot! ).
Honestly, for their price point, I think they make great quality pieces! A lot of my basics are from there and I have purchased from stores in Asia and US. As long as I wash in cold and hang dry, they have lasted me for years!
One of the things I appreciate most about Uniqlo is they post the actual garment dimensions of each piece. Most brands are so lazy in this regard and just post “typical” size charts or useless descriptions like “fits true to size”, which is infuriating when shopping online.
For anyone who'd be visiting Japan for the exchange rate, buy Uniqlo there!!! Make sure you convert to the correct sizing as Asian sizes are smaller than US / Canada. The prices there are much lower, some items are like half of those in the US / Canada. And I personally find the quality of the fabric and sewing is higher too.
FYI, unfortunately the asian sizing of Uniqlo stores in Asia is meant for people 5'3 and shorter. The torso, sleeve lengths, pant lengths are shorter as well so always try stuff on!
I absolutely trust you so I personally know that your reviews are always unbiased and honest, but I am a little worried that some people might be upset you didn’t disclose that you’ve been sponsored by UNIQLO in the past (even though this video isn’t sponsored). I trust you though and I know UNIQLO is great so I would believe you regardless. Great video, I just don’t want people coming after you for not disclosing the past sponsorship!
Uniqlo changed their t-shirt fabric in the past four years: thr newer t-shirts I have purchased are cheaper fabric that collect lint like mad. My older Uniqlo tees are still super soft and luxe feeling, but starting to be dirty under the arms. Im hoping it's just the summer tees that have the cheaper materials and they will improve in winter...
Sadly I've had the same problem with the merino sweaters, the ones I bought 5 years ago still look amazing, barely any pilling, the one I bought last winter pilled after one wash and has weirdly long arms, I'm not sure it is still good quality 😢
Sadly all brands are making cheaper worse quality clothes nowadays - just compare any brand from 10 years ago. This won’t change until fast fashion changes
They have different styles of Ts some not as great and most great. I recommend looking around and even on the Men’s section, you may find the quality that you are looking for.
We accidentally found Uniqlo at San Fran. We moved about three years ago to Houston. Texas has no Uniqlo stores, but they will open one this fall in Houston. I am so excited!
I love uniqulo for shirt dresses but it's incredibly hit and miss, and always overcrowded so really hard to focus on shopping for quality pieces. This video helped so much, I hope my next visit is more fruitful now and I feel a bit more confident with the information you've equipped us with 💙 tysm
Edit: all good 👍 … After following this channel, I’ve been buying clothes from Uniqlo, now please don’t tell me they are as bad as others. Fingers crossed.. going to watch the video now!
I love Uniqlo but I have been disappointed that their men’s wear is often at a higher quality level than women’s. For example, their men’s wool coat last winter was 100% wool and not much more expensive than their women’s wool coat containing less than 50% wool. Their men’s linen is also better quality and was advertised as anti wrinkle when their women’s wasn’t (at least in my storefront). Many brands do this it’d be an interesting video topic!
Absolutely clothes made for men are often "higher quality" than similar ones for women - I always suggest for ladies to shop men's clothes when possible! Esp at the thrift store
I'd love to see a video about maintaining clothes to extend their longevity such as cleaning, storage, etc. which seems to be the natural next step after obtaining high quality expensive clothes
This was my favourite video of yours so far Jen - thank you! It’s actually a store we have in Australia - yay! I loved how you suggested specific pieces, showed us what they looked like on, and reviewed their quality. So helpful. I quite like Uniqlo for basics, as you said, and find their quality decent and their prices reasonable 👍🏼
loved the video just wanted to add for folks afraid of buying dry clean inky fabrics. aside from a few considerations (like mixed fabrics or potential color bleed) you can wash all dry clean only clothes including silk!!
When Uniqlo finally came to US I was actually going to Japan and had watched a documentary on how the company started. I had lost a lot of weight but I still bought two graphic tees in the biggest size from their Ginza location in Tokyo. My the second time I bought from the brand was when I went to South Korea but I had thrift two Uniqlo army green Jackets because they felt so premium with the fleece pocket lining and the detachable hood that wore them back to the states. Last year I took my mom to Uniqlo for the first time and she loves the store. I'm actually a DD so what I do is I add a uni lined bra (fenty bra) for extra support when wearing the Airism bra tank or shirt and even have the bra because I hate sleeping in lined bras.
Fantastic review! I've been shopping here for almost a year now ever since they opened a store near me and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well all the clothes are looking after multiple washes. Uniqlo is a great store and proves that clothing companies have no right to charge absurd prices for quality.
I agree with you that the Ribbed Cropped Sleeveless Bra Top probably does not provide enough support for large breasted women, but I take issue with the statement at 6:28: "I feel like if you're anything above a C or D cup, these tops are not going to accommodate you as well." Cup letters by themselves are meaningless to determine size because they only exist in relation to the band size. For example, a 36B is actually bigger than a 30D. This top in medium is comfortable for me to wear as a 32DD.
I'm a DD cup and they are WAY too small in the cup for me and far too loose and baggy in the band. If you have a slightly narrow back and fuller bust it's a no. I wear XS - S full coverage tank tops usually.
@@tomjones2157 Like I said I'm 32DD (again, the band size is crucial) and I find the medium fits me fine. Perhaps it just worked out for my combination of body size, bust size, and shape as my boobas are fairly even.
5:30 Yes please an in-depth review of the bra tops would be awesome! I’ve been looking into the covertible tube top one but for that price i’m not so sure… (at least until it goes on sale, lol)
I'm not a fan of the bra tops (tried them on today - too tight uncomfortable for my liking) so imo this depends on whether bras normally fit you or not.
@@TheAlyconaria Oh that’s true… I’ve heard others recommend against them for anyone over size C cup. I have Bs but the elastic gets too tight around the bustline if I wear them for >8hs. Maybe I’ll sizing up to see if that helps.
I’m Canadian too and I always love hearing your accent on videos ❤ about to do a deep dive into your videos because I am on the hunt for some new quality basics!
I just bought some of their workout gear recently and wow! Really cements Uniqlo as a staple store in my closet. It's flattering without using compression and is so soft. The bottoms are also squat proof in the light purple colour
Thanks for the review on the pleated wide pants they look really good! Unfortunately my 100% linen shirt from uniqlo does have those bumpy pills/snags and I personally find the fabric to be not that great for 100% linen, it gets very wrinkly and is quite thin and irregular.
I usually don't buy clothes and if I do, I used to buy cheap clothes (right now I'm wearing jeans from H&M that I bought in 2017-2018 for like US$5). But your shorts made me realize that sometimes is much better to spend a bit more in good clothes! Recently, I noticed Uniqlo is doing a collab with One Piece, but I was unsure if it was worth spending €20 for each t-shirt (100% cotton). I feel like you gave me the reassurance I needed! Specially since I live in a country where there aren't any uniqlo stores, so I can't see the clothes for myself. Thanks!
I love uniqlo, I also have some items shown in these videos, I can tell you it’s really durable. And there’s hidden gems in the men’s collection that women’s don’t. Even bought a few color just because they are too good and inexpensive. The best. ❤❤❤ I even have uniqlo pants for many years and it’s still in good shape.
I love Uniqlo!! Their airism t shirts are my absolute fav!! 20.00! And everything from the Ines de la Fressenge collection was superb! Have few blazers well made and blouses👍sadly shes done with her collections with Uniqlo.
i own 3 of the linen shirts in different colours, they're perfect for the summer!! Also have a couple of the bra tops, as a bra hater they're my go-to bra now. I wish they had it longer just like you said!
Never been to Uniqlo, they don't even have one in my state. (though apparently they're opening some this year) Nice to see a big retailer producing good quality! I'm trying to avoid fast fashion these days, but if I find myself without another suitable option I'll check out Uniqlo. Looks like they're good for basics, and I have been wanting some linen garments, so one of those shirts could work for me.
I like uniqlo clothes for relax day or casual work. Not sure if the ankle pants are getting shorter after I put them in the tumbler dryer or I just imagine things 😅. But the fabric still looks nice after 5 years now.
Uniqlo is a mixed bag for me. I bought their 100% cotton sweatshirt in light pink and it gets random yellow stains on the fabric (I’m not staining them) even after a wash, it comes back after a day and I noticed the yellow stains get larger the more I wash them. I also loved their bra tank dress but hated their bra tube top (the cups were visible and it was very unflattering on me)
I actually love Uniqlo as of late. They also had a collab with compteir de cottoneir ,which is one of their own parisian brands and this collection has some really good linen tshirts and pants that I loved.
Uniqlo's layering pieces are the money maker here. It's hit or miss sometimes, though. I have a Uniqlo tank that I refuse to throw out even though it's dingy and stretched out now but their bra tops (small boob friendly), loungewear, ultra down jackets and heattech items are top notch. They're my go tos. Their merino wool line needs tons of work though. My favorite item from them is their linens and the active wear leggings. They are both so impressive as you said.
Commenting on the bra tops, I have EU size 75DD/E and I wear them nonstop! I actually pretty much entirely ditched my bras for their bra tops because they're more comfortable. The band on the bottom folds over a bit, but personally it doesnt bother me. They give surprisingly good support.
So I’m a US 34 E/F cup and generally a size 8/10 - I get the sleeveless bra tops in an XL and it’s been my go-to for the summer cause it’s been in the 90s regularly here. Provides enough support for me that it’s worth it to be able to go braless when I know I’m gonna be sweating a fair bit. Even though they’re cropped, I’m a long torso girlie and the XL is long enough to cover all but a sliver between the top and some high waisted jeans.
Wha?!?! I tried that crew t-shirt in grey and the seams sat funny on my shpulders because they were kind of bulky and slightly off. I thought there was an issue with the construcion but maybe the one I tried was a fluke? The brown supima cotton one I got instead fit nicely though.
Comment before watching - I love Uniqlo so I’m nervous 😂 I will say I’ve had items from them for several years that still look great and have been put through a lot of abuse lol. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
I’m very new here and I love your video’s, it’s made me shop much better. As a curvy petite woman I struggle to find things that fit well, I often find tops too small and bottoms too long. Which company would you recommend for petite clothing. Thank you ❤
These are really nice quality classics. Amazing staples. I've heard good things about this brand for a decade but never actually seen a store even though I shopped a LOT.
Their cotton shorts are good for playing golf. Although some of their latest T-shirts are kind of falling off. I bought a fujiko fujio anniversary collab shirt recently and it tore a bit on the arms on the second wear. Probably justified as it was on clearance but, some of the 2010s pac man tshirts I use as pjs are still softer and nicer than some of their newer stuff.
One just opened near me, so I went for the first time. (This was also the first time I've been shopping for clothes in person since the pandemic). After being really disappointed by the absolutely horrendous quality of fabrics at stores I used to shop at like Gap (their denim has gotten so cheap and thin 💔), I was SHOCKED by the quality of uniqlo. All the fabrics....felt like real fabric?!?! And didn't feel like they would immediately get holes?!?!?! Their affordable T-shirts were thick and hold their shape?!?! Officially converted. Re: the built in bras, I'm shocked to say they did actually kindof work for my f/g cup bust. They weren't my favorite because the seam lines show through, but honestly, they performed muuuuch better than I expected. I also found a blouse with French seams?! When have I *ever* seen french seams on anything at the mall?? Literally never.
Thank you for this review!!! I've been looking for a store with higher quality of clothing in my price range and I will check them out tomorrow. Have a wonderful day. ❤
I'm a big Uniqlo fan and have converted several other people. Most of the Uniqlo items I've bought have had lasting power, and they took some serious wear before showing it. The design is timeless and the material on many of the items agrees with my sensory issues. They have duds sometimes and I wish they carried xxl in store where I live (and expanded their sizing as a whole), but I am a Uniqlo girl through and through.
I have the bra top you tried on in 2 colours as i loved the fit. Im a DD-E cup so they to work for larger chests but obviously they arent as supportive as a full bra but they are still very comfortable.
Can you please do this with their fall winter clothes that are releasing right now? Really want to buy from the soufflé line but it’s almost entirely acrylic material :((
This is my problem as well. I have an hourglass figure and need fitted clothing, otherwise it looks horrible on me. A lot of the Uniqlo shirts don't work for me for the reason. But the few pieces I have last and are very good.
Agreed, I think these boxy cropped styles are popular in Japan hence why it’s so prevalent in Uniqlo. I have long limbs so everything just “ends” so awkwardly on me. The only thing I like from their collection are the bra tops and heattech
To call Uniqlo fast fashion is a stretch, I have a 3 year old BLACK tshirt (that I also thrifted), that is still black and looks new. But maybe it depends on the product
Uniqlo suits and dress shirts saved me during my internship, love it. I Still order there, but I'm starting to consider an 'upgrade'. What would you recommend for say 25% more expensive that would offer better quality?
Hi, can you please make a video about what type of fabrics are meant or good for what? I feel like I just hate on polyester because it’s sweaty, but I don’t really know about the benefits. xxx
I use to love, I mean really LOVE Uniqlo. I found 100% wool, $99 winter coats, actually jean jeans. But the quality has gone down, or my favorites been replaced with new fabrics, or cuts etc.
I love their clothing my only issues is for me the cut of the dress pants a lot of the time doesn't fit me. But their white dress shirts survived working 2 years at an elementary school and if that doesn't sing their praises i don't know what does. (Yes I had to wear a suit while working at an elementary school)
I usually loved their U-T t-shirts for their slightly longer sleeves, but in the past two years, maybe because of the Y2K baby-tee trend, those shirts are no where to be seen. I hope they bring them soon.
I recently ordered online (google is tracking me recommending me this ) and I order 2 shirts and S and M because im not sure how good their sizes are. I do think it would be better to shop in person to pick and see every detail like this. Unfortunately theres not a single Uniqlo near me
I love their bra tops but as a C cup I can confirm they’re not designed for larger busts 😅 I have to size up and even then I see stretching/pulling across the chest. The outline of the bra cup stitching also becomes visible through the fabric due to the top layer being pulled. That said, I deal with all of this since the bra tops are just so easy in the summer.
