Aiming higher: Is university STEM teaching failing women?
This discussion was part of the Women in STEM Festival at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, a national conference exploring the barriers and opportunities facing women in science studies and careers.
Among the issues covered was the question of whether all-female classes for undergraduates might boost young women's confidence by ensuring they are not talked over by more confident - but not necessarily informed - male counterparts.
The panel included:
Chair: Dr Sarah Williams, Murray Edwards College Fellow in Physics
Professor Val Gibson, Professor of Physics and Head of the High Energy Physics group at the University of Cambridge
Dr Jessica Wade, Physicist at Imperial College, London, and campaigner for women in science
Professor Rebecca Kilner, Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Head of the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge
