@Sergei Serenkov How about the 15" Dell XPS for 1800 USD? It is way, way, way more powerful than a Macbook Pro 15 2018. Nonetheless, the Vaio is a HUGE joke. The heck ahahah. How about an Asus Zenbook 14? Also comes with an i7 and Nvidia graphics and is impossibly thin and small. Costs ~1400 USD for the 1TB Nvme SSD-model.

@Sergei Serenkov So is Apple' latest models! Skip the 2017,2018 and 2019 models as they are plagued with severe issues and Apple won't cover it. Apple had severe issues with the keyboard and the T2 chip that causes the entire MBP to be wasted (The T2-chip often burns out and is required to acces anything on the SSD in the MBP, so all data is lost after the T2-chip fails). Exactly! I'm sick and tired of laptop companies pushing themselves to make the thinnest laptops ever, advertising how thin they are. Like, seriously stop, you're just thermal throttling the laptop into oblivion, making it useless for any serious work. No one cares how thin your laptop is, is it thin enough to fit into a backpack? That's ALL that matters if you're making a laptop running an i7 or nicer. It's so incredibly frustrating to see companies move in the thin direction when it's causing unbearable thermal throttling.

There's a lot of things that I love about this laptop, especially that it aggressively shuns all the horrible modern trends, the I/O is spectacular, as well as the understated design. But it has too many shortcomings for it to be worth $1900. Maybe a refresh with Ryzen 4000 APUs and a better display. It also needs a trackpoint-type mouse for it to be a business laptop. One modern trend that does make sense on a low powered small laptop is USB-C charging.

If you're not going for a full ergonomic design the best you can do for you wrists is have something perfectly flat. I'm looking for an thin and light laptop with modern specs that can still take sd cards. So this actually looks interesting to me. Only thing bothering me is the top bezel on the screen and the tiny touchpad. I don't mind a "plasticky" feel as long as the flexinf means nothing gets broken. I had a Sony Vaio 15" from 2011 until it just stopped booting last year and it was honestly impressive. 2.1 cm thick, 2 kg makes it still look somewhat modern today.

A couple things: While true there are weird things about this laptop I think the market for this is misunderstood. (I wouldn't buy one either but I'm not the market) Its not so much going for high - end but rather the enterprise which want a light durable laptop with no compromises on ports (Hence the VGA). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D5PbHFeCWu4.html shows waterproof + durability tests showing if something gets jammed between keys and screen it will be fine. Sorta why the keyboard has that flex. So at least there is a reason. Some unanswered questions. How was battery life? does the dell fans ramp up if you plug it in as well while doing heavy tasks? Do they offer screen options (Think I saw a 4k option) That said, even if it has precision drivers that trackpad is tiny!

@@harpskid Having worked in several workplaces, Lots of companies still have older equipment (projectors, monitors etc) lying around and are perfectly usable (which is good, saves money reduces e-waste etc. not saying upgrading is bad though). For those, its inexcusable to waste time any time concerning ports (whether the user forgot the adaptor or one just happened to be missing, faulty adaptor etc). Corporations play it safe (especially when you have to deploy to a large quantity) and thats what this is for with all ports, even more-so if you go do presentations in tons of places. wouldn't necessarily recommend it for your average person but different devices for a different market and you can tell this is one of them. I can see this being appealing in enterprise applications. A fair amount of offices still use VGA as a primary display interface. However at the same time, still want less bulky machines. As for the track pad, Vaio may have also been anticipating that companies will also be providing peripherals, such as a mouse. Which could explain the lousy track pad. Now that being said, I don't think that's an excuse for charging nearly $1900 for a sub par laptop.

I like that the trackpad on the Vaio IS CENTERED ON THE SPACEBAR. I don't really need a huge trackpad, but when I'm typing a long document, I'd rather have the edge of the trackpad be equal on both sides of my hand. So many laptops center it on the laptop, which might look better, but sucks to use.

7:30 sort of disappointed in Alex. He of all people should know that most laptops (including the Dell) do not need to ramp up the speed of their fans too much because it’s on *BATTERY POWER* so they throttle the CPU and GPU which inevitably leads to less heat output = lower fan speed.
@ChippTheFox

@@ChippTheFox What he meant by "drag racing" is performance-wise. As @Keir pointed out you can't have the same performance as a plugged-in laptop, however, that wasn't my point. My original comment was pointing out that he was putting on the emphasis of how much "louder" the VAIO was compared to Dell which wasn't a fair comparison because the Dell wasn't kicking out much heat for those fans to ramp up and make noise *due* to it not being plugged in. While stuff like this seems nit-picky, it's pretty huge for manufacturers when they give out review samples. Things like this in reviews can deter potential buyers from purchasing their products because it wasn't given a fair shot. Your average buyer wouldn't know that solely based on this video's comparison.

The old Sony Vaio DID have that many ports. Was sweet to be able to plug right into the dorm ethernet. And always could easily connect to a projector or monitor. Even a freaking dvd player for playing movie rentals from the library. All in a very slim (for the time) 14". Mine was also solid aluminum, so no flex. Fantastic build quality. Matte screen great for outdoor visibility. Discrete graphics card that could handle Blender rendering. Unique analog switch for the wifi which was super handy to instantly lock down my laptop if I misclicked on an ad, and I think it is then trying to download malware onto my laptop. A physical switch to turn the wifi off to shut down any shenanegans over the internet. Even an easy swappable battery that gave it an extra 3yrs of life and realistic 12hr working battery life with a backup battery in the bag. In the end a power outlet malfunction fried it, but I will always love my first laptop. Only complaint was it cost an arm and a leg to get, but since it directly helped land me 2 jobs over the years, paid for itself.

It sounded cheap when he was handling it. You could tell there’s a ton of plastic just by him handling and tossing it. 1900$ yeaaaaa no lol. My 750$ Dell Inspiron 7000 2-1 is built better lmao

There is a reason for all the plastic. There was an advertisement of this in japan where they test the durability of it. It is water resistance, they spill water on the keyboard. Then they put a pen between the screen and keyboard, close the laptop, the screen bend a lot but nothing happen at all, hence the plastic. It is a very durable laptop. Sorry for bad english

@@giaopx but when one steps on it a metal or actual kevlar laptop would be not instant dead, step on a magnesium plastic laptop and it breaks at a instance.

I feel like 13" is a strange neighborhood at some point you're buying a glorified tablet but no tablet features. For 1900 that's a bit absurd the quality and what you get
