@@RobeTrotting indeed it was I have very fond memories of the people, the pubs and your overall standard of living and happiness. Danish people can seem aloof but when you get to know them they are amazing. One thing I learnt from them was being punctual. In Ireland we aren’t that punctual but I soon learnt that it was poor manners to turn up late. 29 years since I left Denmark that punctuality has never left me and I am spot on time for anything and usually too early.
When in Vejle, it's a must to drive from Vejle to Jelling through Grejs and Grejsdalen... Or going a bit west to Vejle Ådal - some of the most beautiful nature in Jutland :D
Absolutely. Ribe is the real deal, and as someone who grew up there and now lives near Vejle, I am almost ashamed you "wasted" your time looking at that itsy-bitsy church :-D For a proper cathedral, medieval witch hunts and hangings, a proper river (3 actually) running through the town, really old buildings and houses, and much more, Ribe is the place to go.
My friends are living in Vejle at the moment so every holiday I got a chance to explore the city..been to the Wave many times and the walking street but I can`t get enough of it..theres still so much to explore.
Thank you for wonderful video! It is really interesting and motivating! Cannot wait when all of us start travel again! It really help to develop international tourism! cool!
Vejle is such a comfortable city to visit, but it's also surrounded by some crazy beautiful nature. Catch the train going towards Herning and you'll see some very nice valleys just as you get out of town. I'm from Silkeborg area which also has some beautiful nature, especially if you choose to explore the lakes by canoe in summer, but I was stunned the first time I arrived to Vejle from the Herning side by train.
Vejle is a fine city, but my personal favorite, is Viborg ❤ You've got the words guys, now you need the ease, to get the flow of the language Hello from Hundested 🌸🌱
@@Simon.v.G. Viborg is a beautiful city, but it's not small....(population: 40.000) I been working here for 3 months, and still have 2 left.... I miss my little Østervrå (population: 1.300) 🤣🤣🤣😁😅
Nice video, AND your walking has improved :D! When Odense "is done" building the new city center AND tram, please come visit :)! There's so much to see and talk about :)
Wow, you really captured Vejle and its beauty from its best sides. Being born and raised in Vejle, I didn’t really expect to get that excited about your video, but I stand corrected. 😉👍
@@RobeTrotting I’m glad you had a good time there. My brother actually works in TorveHallerne where you stayed, so you might have met him. Let me know if you have any complaints about your stay there, then I’ll gladly pass them along. 😉 Have a great night. Looking forward to your next vid. 🙂
You guys have got to go see some of the churches where the murals have been restores. Most churches dating to before the reformation had murals all over the inside in bright colours and ... sometimes raunchy imagery. Unlike in most other European churches the Danish (and to an extend scandinavian churches as a whole) murals survived, they were covered in the wake of the reformation and specifically the 17th and 18th century but many were able to be restored in the 19th and 20th century.
Oh, great tip! We'll have to look for some that have restored murals - we saw a few with a Google search. Sounds really interesting to explore that art history 😀🇩🇰
I was born and raised 15 kilometers outside of Vejle but haven't been there in more than a decade. It's fun to see how the city has changed quite a lot. Seems like you caught the perfect weather for a visit. Skål !
I love to hear you both speaking Danish! I would love to speak Danish. My grandparents in my fathers side spoke Danish fluently. They passed away before I could learn it.
Omg that last clip was right in front of my appartment 🙈 I hope that you enjoyed Vejle! I’ve lived here for two years this months, and it’s my favorite place I’ve lived!
Oh, that's such a high compliment then, we hope that we covered your city well. We LOVED our weekend there in early May. It's such a perfect getaway from KBH 🇩🇰😀
I simply love that you try so hard on the Danish language! And of course I enjoy your road trips (Jellinge was also amazing).. Keep up the good "work" (if you can call it that, hehe)! Love you guys!
I visited Vejle a lot, in later years due to my job and when I was a kid when we visited relatives in the small village Stouby not far from Vejle. My favorite area is Vejle Ådal west of town, with its natural beauty. If you haven't already you should definitely visit. Not least Ravninge Enge and the surrounding area is beautiful
Hey Fellas! just discovered your Channel , Very pleasantly Surprised, My wife's Parents came From Denmark to America, in their Teenage years, I'm also A Danish American, I am Seriously Considering Getting our 17 teen yr. old Son back to His Ancestral Home For At least some Education, maybe he will want to stay [America is A little Nutty Right now] I see your Videos As A useful Tool in helping our Cause .Thanx!!
That is awesome. I live about 12 kilometres North of Vejle, in Hedensted. But I have gone to school in Vejle and work there now. Glad you guys liked it 😍😍
So cool! We loved it - the perfect weekend trip from KBH. Can't wait to return and it's really cool to have other Danish destinations to recommend to our friends and family who visit us 🇩🇰😀
Next time you are in Vejle, you should take the short train or bus ride to Jelling. The old Vikingtown were the first royalty lived and Harald bluetooth made denmark christian. It is a small cosy town with a big history, a nice museum, and In the end of may one of the biggest danish music festivals takes place every year. Not long from Jelling is Givskud that has one of the best Zoo's in denmark.
Oh wow, I never noticed but you're right. I think we have to get into a different mindset - which is also why we sound so bad when we try to insert one Danish word/pronunciation in an English sentence (not that our regular Danish is THAT good haha).
Thanks for the history lesson! I never heard any of these things! I do come from a family that never went on hollydays and didnt explore denmark, but there are so many beautifull places to see! I will try to go there next time we have a small hollyday! And your danish is getting super good! I think it is at least 😁
This video is awesome and I really think you guys are on a good path when it comes to your danish pronunciation. Thank you both for daring to end this video like that. Also, I really like the way you portray the places you go. Even though I've been there, your videos make me feel like going there again
I love your videos 👍🏻. If you are interested in VERY old Danish history, you should visit Koldinghus castel in Kolding, the city of Ribe (Denmarks oldest city) and Kongernes Jelling (a inside and outside musserum in Jelling that tells the story about the danish Viking age and how over danish monarchy is the oldest in the world because ower Queen Margrethe II can track her lineage back to some of the Viking kings. They are alle in Jylland and are all dated back since before Columbus discovered America so older then the oldest written America history (except for the native American's history of course) 😊 Once we took an Australien to Koldinghus and she found i mind blowing to stand in a building older than her entier contryes written history, so maby you would have that same mind blowing experience 😊👍🏻
Thank you so much for watching and the sweet comment Annette. We have Ribe high on our list of places to visit for leisure and to create a video. We actually started a series to examine why and how Denmark has existed and thrived over the centuries despite setbacks and obvious advantages that some other nations have. For the first video we went to Jelling and talked about the ingenuity and adaptive qualities of Gorm and Harald and what their legacies mean to Denmark as a country. Here’s the link if you’re interested 😃🇩🇰 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yrvC5sel8s8.html
Even though Denmark is a quite secular country - I recommend taking a trip of the danish churches and monasteries. Northern Jutland (where I'm from) has a number of wonderful examples; - Den tilsandede kirke (The sanded church, Skagen) - Børglum Kloster (Børglum Monastery, Wonderful place - highly recommended) - Vitskøl Kloster (Vitskøl Monastery) - Gråbrødrekloster (Gray-brother monastery, which was found by accident when digging out for a new building site in Aalborg) - Budolfi Kirke (Budolfi Church, Aalborg - which has a monastery attached next to it. You can get a guided tour of the crypts and the wonderful frescos) - Lodbjerg Kirke (Lodbjerg Church, Thy - which is one of two smallest churches in Denmark)
I work daily in Vejle city center but live i Kolding close by, Vejle is great city, if you go to the street “Kiddesvej” you will meet the steepest road in Denmark 😀 enjoy your stay guys 🌞
Great video, you should visit Sønderborg sometime, maybe try when they’re doing ringridning, because it’s an absolute blast and a unique experiance only found in Sønderjylland
This was actually a surpricingly good video, you relly did some research. Your visit here must have been very recently, as "Rådhustorvet" in front of the old city hall have just been renovated to this looks, there used to be steps, where those statues originally were placed. Next time you are here, take a trip to Skyttehuset and the Northerm Forrest. Nature is one of the things, that makes Vejle beautiful. Unfortunately a lot of old buildings in the center have been demolished since the 1970's, which means loss of a lot of history.
Hej Henrik, thank you so much - it's always good to be a nice surprise 😀We got to visit Vejle in early May and we were lucky with great weather. Next time we will DEFINITELY do more of the nature around the fjord, we missed the chance this time because we had a lot planned.
Your Danish wasn't bad enough to warrant a warning guys 😂🤣😂 Be proud that you are learning and practicing, and that you have the bravery to use it even though it won't come out perfectly. Danish is HARD if you haven't grown up with it, and the pronunciation isn't exactly intuitive or natural sounding if you are not used to æ, ø and å etc. So yeah... be kind to yourselves! Also, thanks for showing the beauty of Vejle. I have never visited myself, but it looks gorgeous and the history of the town was fascinating! I am glad you are doing towns like this, and I definitely recommend you visit Aalborg where I used to live while studying at the University there. It is a gorgeous city with a lot to see, and I would love to see the kind of history you might be able to find as it is such a major city. Odense, the town of Hans Christian Andersen, would probably be really interesting for you as well!
We've done several travels around Denmark (we are danes, and feel that our chrildren also needs the knowledge), there are a lot of beautifull places, Ribe is exceptional, Ærø (where we had some of our honeymoon 25 years ago), a place similar in name, which is staggering is Vejlerne, that's in the north of jutland. There are also still the old beach fishing boats in the nothern jutland, and vadehavet where you can drive to Mandø on Låningsvejen, and and and, there are so many places :-)
@@RobeTrotting Aww, well next time maybe :) If you plan on going to Vejle again - You can be sure that I'll be there to shake your hands and take pics :p
7:25 😏 Don’t worry, you’ll get a hang on our weird, tongue twisting potato-in-mouth language eventually! 😄 Perhaps you could do a casual pronunciation shootout with the Youngs from 'Travelin’ Young' at some point?
@@RobeTrotting Yeah, that wouldn’t be fair since she’s still a ‘young’ 😏 whippersnapper. Maybe she could be the referee, and have her ask a Danish friend to help out and give out the points?
A cozy place where you can learn a little about history and see beautiful things is Sønderborg and Dybøl Banke Museums ( Jutland/Als ) - Just found your channel and think it's cool - Hej Is from Denmark - Another place with a good history is Bunker Museum in Hanstholm and beautiful beach with bunker us from WV2 (Jutland) - 😊🙌🏼
Fun to experience Vejle with the eyes of 2 tourists ❤️Next time, and I'm sure there Will be a next time 😀 You guys have to Walk 1 kilometer the opposite way, ie opposite the port. Just 1 kilometer/10 minuttes of walking, we have Kongens Kær, with Lots of birds AND 2 sea eagles. Vejle is Also beatyfull nature almost inside the city ❤️
my birth town :) .. i was baptized at the St. Nicolaj. you should have been at the city part Uhrhøj (Tour de France Goes through there btw.) but there is a view point there where you can see most if not all of Vejle city and Vejle Å-dal. Find the street/ Road Grønningen and where it meets the forrest go towards right and like 100m down you are at the view point :) just a little "native" tip.
Thanks Tim! We definitely won’t stop trying. I think when we use English but insert one Danish word the pronunciation sounds bad, but when we try to actually speak in Danish sentences it’s a little better 🙏 🇩🇰
Thanks, Patrick! We have not been to the West coast yet but have heard good things - it's probably great in the summer. Definitely on our list, we have a few more trips in Denmark planned for the summer months 😀🇩🇰
Hint to learning how to pronounce, Æ, Ø, Å.... (my advice anyway....).. You know the song, "Hey Yah" with... Ohh I forgot.., "black eyed peas" ... or maybe "Outcast"... Anyway.. the "Hey Yeah" chorus is perfect training those vocal chords.. 👍😁
I like your video but I still think Vejle is boring even if I lived there for a while. maybe try aarhus who has a lot of history or Fredericia which has an interesting cultural history. it is the place where french refugees setled after been given the town by the king. There is a hotel close to the harbour, Hotel Postgården, who has a charming interiour and delicious cakes. Ebeltoft is an old and charming town with varied museums.
The last part sounds a bit Trump-like 😝 When you say, »Tak, fordi I så med (Thank you for watching along)!«, it sounds like: »Tak, fordi I så mig (Thank you seeing me)!«
All I can say about the 'bad danish' is more that english is more flowey in the words. Danish contains a lot of 'half-stops' so to speak in a word. like Dannebrog. Danne Brog. I think if 'American' was a danish word, it's be Ameri Can. Cuz we do have a tendency to have that half-waythrough re-adding of pressure to a lot of words more than 4 or so letters. so if you think you might be a bit 'heavy' on the word, you might just barely be giving it enough 'pressure', so to speak.
I'm from Kolding (approximately 18,6 miles from Vejle), and that is a equally beautiful city to visit. Mostly famous for Koldinghus Castle and the mall. But it's so much more. It's absolutely beautiful and worth a visit
What you also should have done was to rent a Bicycle and drive West trough Vejle Ådal (Vejle River Wally) towards Bindeballe and Vandel, then you would have seen the true "alps" of Denmark.
