As a democrat, I used to say I was “woke” and proud of it, but after October 7 and watching the pro-Hamas movement on the left, I now say, “If that’s woke, then I ain’t woke no more.”
Incredible you just admitted you hookline and sinker fell for Israeli propaganda on the issue. Absolutely disgusting you think the left is pro Hama. I highly doubt you were ever woke you sound like a person with no critical thinking skills
Have you looked at a single image out of Gaza since? The fact that Israel is pushing 30x the kill count, mostly innocent civilians? That Gaza was essentially an open air prison for a decade+ prior? Intellectually disingenuous to claim people opposing what Israel is doing are "pro-Hamas" like the actions of a group of 40,000 tops represent all 2 million who've lived in a prison and now live in a bombing range where even humanitarian aid orgs like World Central Kitchen are intentionally targeted even when coordinating with Israel.
There was a simultaneous abandonment of classical liberalism for woke by some and a concomitant, reactive abandonment of classical liberalism for the far-right doppelgänger by others. (There was also an overally, gender-based bias where men went to the right more whereas women when the other way.) I also wonder about the totality of socioeconomic, psychological, sociological, and demographic factors that influenced these trends. Can't we just rewind to classical liberalism, common sense, proportionality, passionate debate with respectful dialogue, and benefit-of-the-doubt? Maybe social media amplifies outrage-/popularity-seeking extreme behavioral patterns?
You can't put the toothpaste back into the tube. There's no going back, but we can learn from the past, see what worked and go from there. The main problem as I see it is we live in a post-truth environment. The old paradigms don't apply. New strategies need to be developed. For example the "what is a woman" question is a red herring. By beginning to answer the question, you've lost the plot. You're playing the game on their turf. We need to answer questions in kind with questions that reveal their ulterior motives. Trying to be straight forward and honest is just as silly as when the red coats tried to attack in formation when patriots were using guerilla tactics.
Which wokeness? The white gop colonized definition or the black definition that the GOP co-opted it from? African Americans have been using this term for 50 plus years! We stay woke!
I think they were talking about the twitter right wing slur version. It didn't sound like they knew what you are talking about, or considered it being as important as the newer right wing term... Do you think they should know about it? me as an European, who isn't very aware of US politics and all, hasn't heard of the older version too!
@@thefruit it's a term that black Americans would use when saying be aware of racism and your general surroundings. I listened to about 10 minutes of this and turned it off, cause they really don't know what they are talking about. Racist whites stole the term. When whites say it, woke=black or black adjacent. Just like now they use the term DEI. Which now means Black
And yet I'd bet that nothing "woke" actually has any effect on your life. Probably the most controversial issue is the acceptance and normalization of transgender people, but even if you struggle with that one, does it really affect you? What pushed you over the edge, may I ask?
Do you understand how interviews work? The interviewer has to put herself in the place of the audience, making sure the subject of the interview explains things that might not be obvious to some audience members. Jerusalem was just doing her job by asking that question.
Please stop trying to pass off revolutionary language mandates as mere etiquette. Trying to browbeat nice people who want to be polite by making up new definitions of what is impolite is a bad-faith tactic intended to save you the trouble of arguing substantively for your position.
Surely you have never been a target of the woke mob. I watched them take down a black man because he was slightly pro police. So many people’s lives turned upside down over this nonsense.
