An axle seal is quite inexpensive. However, the labor to get access to the axle seal is a bit involved. Today we will be replacing this leaking Axle seal with basic hand tools. As always, I'll take you step by step on how to perform the procedure with easy-to-follow instructions.

6 weeks ago we, my friend a former Body shop guy, replaced the shift shaft seal and I tightened up the bolts on the oil pan. #1 Just checked my oil a few days ago and again last night and zero oil loss. #2 The leakage of fluid went down more than 50% as the passenger side axle was leaking bad, after we replaced Shift shaft seal and tightened oil pan bolts. . #3 We replaced the passenger side axle and seal 7 days ago. Suddenly next day fluid is leaking madly out of driver side axle which is only 5 years old and this entire time had ZERO leaks and always dry. I know because I have been under that car at least 7 times the last 2 months spraying and wiping down, trying to figure out where the leaks were coming from. And the driver side axle was never wet or leaking. That side was dry the entire time. Boots are perfect! The very next day after we replaced the passenger axle and seal all of a sudden the oil is pouring down from the driver side, the 5 years old axle. I thought after we replaced another seal the leakage would go down even more. Now it's just as bad as before. Except it's now coming from driver side axle. Note: Passenger side axle is dry, clean and perfect! So that went good. #4 The Driver side axle for the first time is flinging fluid all over the place. It's a mess. The person who did this I met in O'Reilly's as the other guy didn't want to do it. Now this guy did a great job replacing the Axle and Axle Seal. He used to be a mechanic at a local shop for years now works out of his garage. Note: 6 months ago I had a mechanic replace the crank shaft seal, front seal, Valve Cover seal and spark plug seals. Which are all good and dry! I just find it odd suddenly the driver side axle / seal is leaking so bad. Like it totally blew out over night. I only live 3 blocks from this guy and parked it. Next morning fluid all over. Last night I checked up on ramps and it's really bad I am going to replace the driver side axle and seal, just find it odd suddenly it had a blow out driving 3 blocks...

Guys buy the seals from the dealership. I spent a week buying from auto parts they all have the same manufacturer for these and they dont fit. Just saving you some time with my experience.

🤣🤣🤣 - I used to be like that! Me and my buddy just replaced my axle and axle seal last week. It's really not that hard. it's a little bit of banging and stuff and a little complicated but the mechanic will charge a lot just for the labor. I took about an 1 hour 20 minutes. And that included going to O'Reillys to get the right size Socket for axle nut.

So if u have an issue installing the axle in the trans side check the pin. I actually had to take the pin off the stock axle and put it to the aftermarket axle to get it to slide in. A couple of pics helps to remove the PIN from the aftermarket axle

As always, excellent videos. When loosenimng tight nuts, I set the breaker bar to about 10 o' clock so gravity/body weight assists the turn.

On a 2005 civic i took the nut off the axle but used a air gun... Didn't remove the lower control arm. Just the brake line bolt, I removed the bolts from the upper, and used jack to hold up the the lower control arm. Also used a pry bar screwdriver to remove the axle. The seal was dry rotted on i had to pick and peel it off and i use a heat gun to get the remainder off. I use a little grease on the new seal and hit it on with a hammer. Then put everything back on

Use grease/oil around the outside of the seal to help it go in or not use grease/oil?

I have a 2004 Honda Accord ex 2.4 the guy who sold me the car told me the tranny was rebuild Becuase there was a tiny crack in the seal so I started seeing fluid leak time to time and I would get that jerkin feeling or high rpm (low fluid due to it leaking somehwere) took it to one of my homeboy he found out it was the axle seal not the trans I was really getting ready to start selling it if there was no hope I appreciate this video man

I just got my 2013 RDX back from my mechanic after my major 105K service. Water pump, timing belt etc.He told me I had a small leak, ATF fluid.. and I need to replace my axle and the axle seal. I've never heard of ATF leaking from the axle. Didn't know it was actually a thing?? After watching this I guess it is a thing. He recommended me to also replace the axle. Anyone know why this is?

@taterlysaladman9377
@taterlysaladman9377 Год назад
20 minutes to actually do the job. 30 minutes to get the car jacked up and wheel off and ready. Four hours to get the outside axle end free, including time to bandage up and stop the blood flowing. Two days and begging the brother in law to help get the transaxle pulled out, over time the cheap metals bond together and it takes about 300 pounds of force to remove the transaxle from it's happy little hole. A week waiting for a seal the right size to be delivered from amazon. Since no video on earth shows how much to beat it into place, you beat it and it disappears into the trans. Which is a blessing cause the only thing harder than getting the transaxle out is getting the new one in. By the time you do beat it into position, usually the boots on both ends are ripped and you have to start all over. Buy rear wheel drive cars with disk brakes on all four wheels folks. Front wheel drive was and is a bad idea.

@@LeoniloArellano I went to the dealer because oem is usually best for seals, and because every internet supplier didn't seem to list the passenger side seal. Like it doesn't have one. Nuts. $15 for Honda seal at dealer.

8:15 I have a very large leak under this axle so I thought it was ATF coming from a blown seal. But based on this, I'm thinking I'm wrong. I expected fluid to be pouring out.
