I never put food in my coop shed, but the other night I found a rat outside by it, body was near their flock block. Like a Chicken Scene Investigation show here. Not sure if they defended their food and went to bed, but they weren’t THAT hungry I guess. I’m worried about them in my silkie barn especially for winter, cuz I have to feed inside since a lot of the flock chooses to stay in mostly. But I don’t want traps/poison where a bird may get into on accident, and not sure I trust a cat not to go for a little Silkie snack.
Thank you so much!! I have a question for ya. We have 11 hens and all of them are beginning to lay . We have one that started laying 2 weeks before the other ones and she doesn’t like sharing her box! Do you have an idea to support all these hens in a 6’ x 4 ‘ coup? Right now my son (40 yrs old) has 6 crates 3 on top 3 on bottom. The 3 on top have to be accessed through the top the 3 on bottom are walk ins. One more question. We have a lot of doves and sparrows here in the desert ,not to mention 2 giant owls! We’re not worried about the owls but my son is worried about all the other smaller birds because they like to go into the runner and he is afraid of them getting salmonella or bird lice or mites. But mostly the salmonella. I’d really appreciate your feedback!!
