Hey Hans, Thank you for this, I have this exact problem, my 2 yr old GSD has been trained with positive reinforcement via treats her whole life but I am unable to train her to stop chasing rabbits and ducks. Don't get me wrong, PR via treats has it's place but is not the complete solution. She ran after a rabbit last weekend into the woods and I thought that was it, I've lost my dog, luckily she came back after 5 mins but after all that training I felt helpless. Something needs to be done about the current situation with dog training. It's creating a whole lot of problematic dogs because of idealogy. Hope to see more of your videos, please jibber jabber more. Thanks

Just a suggestion: I don’t know anything about making RU-vid videos but I know some channels have a “Thanks” button so viewers can essentially leave a tip for the video if they would like to. I just recently learned that when I left another channel a tip for their content on a genetics education video. You should add that option on your channel also.

Hans - I’m from the old school - I would only reward with praise not food !!! And The Dogs You sell are The Best !!! I’m the kind of person , who likes to have the best , and buying your imported Czeck German Shepherd was The Best thing I ever did !!! Everyone at the Dog training school We attended would marvel at how beautiful , smart , and protective that Shepherd was in all the exercises we did !!! Thank You Han’s for such an outstanding Dog !!!

My shepherd is so obedient when we are out in public. Like you say is true, because she is very happy to be with me ....and because she is she won't take a treat too excited.

I trained my dog as you describe (to come to me and not for treats) however if there was a deer around and I didn't catch him before he got into too high of a drive state I could never recall him after a certain point. He would pick up the scent and start getting worked up and circling around picking up the trail where the deer was and if I didn't catch it right away, forget it. My last GSD died about 16 years ago but I have been thinking for while of getting another one. I think I might use an e-collar to allow me to have more control. My first GSD (two years before that) got killed by a car ,chasing a deer across a busy highway. Is your recall strong enough so that the dog will still come when he is in full drive and worked up over a deer?

I agree…however, As a Dog Trainer who is trained hundreds if not more people, dogs and handlers it’s my experience and I’m sure you have witnessed this that not everybody can create that kind of dopamine level in a dog by praising them. They’re incapable of it so you have to use the next best thing and create dope meat levels with food or toys. You know what I’m saying, I seen more people than not percentage wise not being able to praise Dog to the point where it’s meaningful they have zero relationship with their dog and they never will so in order to condition the dog to come you have to use a motivator and it’s backed up by a correction if the dog doesn’t come so it’s worse out there and better here. Yes ideally if you can invoke that kind of dopamine response by praising your dog Dog trailers that are worth a salt can but most humans cannot either give it to freely on a regular basis so it loses value when they’re constantly petting and loving their dogs so when they come, it has zero value or they’re so dry in their personalities or are so locked inside of a fox they cannot emoteand give what it needs

Of all the (tools) all I use is a flat collar and lead I’m not opposed to tools but 95% of the time a flat collar is all that’s necessary

My German Shepherd , I bought from Han’s , was obedience trained - but I never would trust Him off leash cause You never know what could happen . I loved my dog too much and would never forgive myself if He got hit by a car or I lost him !!! Only on a fenced property would I let Him run free !!!
