What is a good watering schedule?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Best to water when the top inches of soil are dry. This might be every week or every 10+ days depending on how well your soil and pot drain. Happy Growing!

Claire, you showed a couple of side by side shots if the root ball. I wish you had stayed there a moment to say which one was the preferred. My plants root ball looked more like example on right, darker, rather than lighter brown roots. Am I underwatering then? Thank you for all information.

Great question, when you place your fingers down into the top inches of soil, do they come out clean when you remove them? That indicates the soil is dry and ready to be watered. If your plant has moist, damp soil on the bottom and there is little or no drainage in the pot, that may indicate your plant is sitting in too much water.

Hello, do they like to be root bound or will a larger pot encourage more growth?? Thanks ❤️
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Great question! They like to be snug however, if you go up 1 or 2 pot sizes and you watch that the larger amount of soil is not staying too wet, you will find it promotes faster growth. The space of the new pot allows the root system to really concentrate on growing, then you'll find your plant will grow taller and throw out new leaves!

My plant is growing new leaves but they are dropping off. How do I prevent this new leaves from dropping? Is it under watering? Or do I need to add fertilizer?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 6 месяцев назад
Great question, it sounds like it may be a combination of both. If the plant is underwatered and in a spot where the humidity is low, new growth will drop. I recommend watering when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water soaks all of the soil and drains really well out the bottom drainage holes. Use a certified 3-1-2 NPK ratio fertilizer like our fiddle leaf fig plant food each and every time you water. Fiddleleaffigplant.com/food

Hi Claire! Thanks for these wonderful tips. I recently got a fiddle leaf fig from IKEA, planted in clay soil which I thought was rather odd. The leaves were drooping today and I instantly knew it needed watering, but what I noticed was that the water comes right out, in the form of mud..and I am not sure if I should repot the plant into a well draining soil, and will this transformation kill it? Would love to know your thoughts! Thanks in advance

Great question! Sounds like it needs to be repotting into fast draining soil. Clay will suffocate the roots unfortunately. I recommend using 1/2 potting soil 1/2 cactus mix to make the soil light and well draining. After repotting, water the soil well until it is fully soaked and draining out the bottom drainage holes. Then leave it to recover directly in front of and up against your brightest window. There may be a little droopiness after repotting which is normal but it should bounce back!

I think I let a newly purchased plant dry out quicker than expected, most leaves are papery dry. I watered as soon as I noticed the issue. Now several days later the leaves are still not supple, but also not yellow or brown. Is there hope for it?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Absolutely! These plants are very resilient. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water is draining properly out the bottom drainage holes. Place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window so your plant gets the light it needs to recover and thrive. Good luck!

I love your video help! I could not find a video on a problem with my soil all the sudden having white stuff on the top of it. I transplanted but the white stuff on top of the soil came back. Could i spray with 1/2 water and hydrogen peroxide to kill it if it's fungus?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Hi Angel, sounds a little like a powdery mildew that may be forming if the top soil is staying too damp. fiddleleaffigplant.com/how-to-prevent-and-treat-powdery-mildew-on-a-fiddle-leaf-fig/

I started with the one cup but now I am up to 2 pitchers every friday. Do I need to adjust my fiddle leaf vitamin
@FiddleLeafFigPlant

That is great! You just need to add 1tsp into your watering container and you will be good to fertilize and feed your plant.

I'm new to the FLF world. My plant has been growing and looks great, it had three new buds on it. One blossomed into a new leaf, albeit a tiny one. Another bud has died. It was doing great, it was the biggest one and looked like it was going to grow and open up to a nice green leaf but now it's dark brown and empty :( The third bloom is too small to tell yet. Is there something in particular that causes new buds to die off? Thanks!
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
Congrats on your new plant and new growth! Do you think you are watering your plant enough? Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains out the bottom drainage holes. These plants also need to be sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window so it has the most access to the light and energy it needs to sustain the new growth.

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant I've been checking it with a moisture meter but that's reading the moisture at the bottom of the pot so maybe that's the problem! I have it in a window but we've been short on sun in the northeast ;) Thanks!!

Is it a good idea to let roots dry on a plant that was previously over watered? I bought a fiddle leaf fig from the clearance rack that was essentially drowning ( three quarters of the cover pot full of water with no drainage) I decided to remove it from both pots and leave the soil out in the open air for about 2 days to dry before putting it back. I know fiddle leaf figs are fans of moisture but I'm also terrified of the idea of root rot, do you think this was the right call or should the moisture have been allowed to dissipate more slowly over time ?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
It sounds like you did the right thing by removing the excess moisture the pot was holding onto. Now is the time to place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window so it has the most access to light to help it recover. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water is draining out the bottom drainage holes. Remove any excess that collects. Good luck!
