Is Your Frosty Fern Dying? Try This with Me!
Frosty Ferns are really a Spiked Moss but should be cared for like a fern. They need to be kept
Moist and misted daily. So lets see if the Frosty Ferns I purchased for $1 each can be saved!

Love your video! These beauties are tricky but so AWESOME to grow. You are right, they can be a challenge. I am still learning how to help them grow. It is now March 20. I got them the week of Christmas. It has been great and not great. I found a perfect spot for them and they were thriving. Indirect bright sunlight(East) facing window off to the side. We had a few days of sun and warmer weather. I guess this burned the plant and they are struggling. I am learning everyday. Wish me luck. They are right they are worth it!

Finding the right spot and temperature for them is key sounds like you’re doing great. I love having them year round in the house to enjoy. Thank you for the compliment I sure appreciate it this helps me to know I am making content that people want to see!

Our housesitter let my frosty fern dry out so thank you for your video. I’m giving it a try to save it.

Crossing fingers for you! That's one thing I have had to consider is travelling when I am seed starting cause I have to rely on someone else to look after all my plants. Not everyone is good at looking after plants. Ha ha I wouldn't even count on hubby to water my plants properly so I sympathize with you. Frosty Ferns aren't the easiest plant to keep alive so I hope you can bring it back to life. Put it on a bed of gravel or stones that is wet at all time to help give it some additional humidity.

No paper coffee filter in the bottom of the pot? I like doing that so dirt doesn't leak out the when I water. Thank you for the info - I love these but can never seem to keep them alive!!!! Maybe I'll try to put a water globe in it to keep it moist. Thank you.

I find if u put the plant close to the bottom of the drainage holes you don’t need a filter that way they get the air and the roots don’t rot. Thats just my way in gardening it’s whatever works for you. I hope the water globe works for you. Misting them also helps. Let me know how you make out. Once you find a system that works for you, you should be good.

@creatingmygarden thank you!!! How much perlite do you use? I just tried mixing it in for the 1st time and now I feel like I have to water my big plants (10"pots) every 4 days using a water meter. They seem happy but it seems like the water is flowing out too fast. Thank you.
@creatingmygarden

I use quite a bit I don't measure I just try to mix it in with the soil so it breaks up any chunks and is distributed evenly. I could see that happening where it may cause the plants to dry out too much. Especially big plants. Did you just pot them up recently?
@MmeO
@MmeO 5 месяцев назад
@creatingmygarden yes. They seem to dry out so quickly. I used to just do miracle gro potting soil straight from the bag - no amendment. I moved them from 8 to 10 inch pots - I think I'll repot in the spring-soon - I moved them just after Christmas m

@MmeO yes I would repot them as well painful having to water that often. Bigger pot will help prevent them from drying out so often sometimes I pot up a couple sizes just to save on watering so much. Let me know how it goes.

I think my ferns got too wet for too long and are not looking good. Can I cut them back and will they regrow, or should I repot them to dry the soil slightly.

Dry them out if u cut them back that might be the end they will dry out. They are pretty picky.

Hello, my frosty fern turn yellow and soft in summer time even I put it indoor, so I add some plant nutrients to it and it seems to speed up the dehydration of the fern, then I use some water to flush the soil for 2 times and the soil remains wet, but it keeps deteriorating, can you give me some suggestions, thank you 😢
@creatingmygarden

Have you potted it up? That would be the first thing and can you most it daily? Even putting it on a tray of rock with water in the rock will help hydrate it. They seem to need alot of humidity or they start going brown and drying up. Their challenging little plants. Give those things a try. Hope this helps!

I would like to know about all those stringy things hanging from the plant I just bought it and if they’re full of it in there going into the dirt am I supposed to cut those off
@creatingmygarden
@creatingmygarden 8 месяцев назад
Hi Colleen those stringy stems are actually roots to help it expand and spread. So don’t cut them off. The plant usually doesn’t get very big as a house plant so no issues there. Just make sure it gets lots of humidity if you start seeing yellow leaves it needs more humidity.

These types of plants naturally creep along the ground and up “against” things (like rocks and trees), and those stringy roots grab on where they can, and mostly get their nutrients from the rain. For that reason it would have been better to just let them rest on the soil than staking them erect: that’s the natural way they grow and root.

@@creatingmygarden Awesome glad to hear it. I'm currently working on mine. Someone gifted it to me and they repotted it. I'm not quite sure what they used as soil. But I think I let it get too dry once. It's just really not looking too good.
