Not so crazy. Europe has been using them for years. They tend to be smaller sizes than electric resistance driers. Even resistance driers have adjusted their temperature to lower temps to increase their efficiency. GFM
R22 is obsolete, so is R12 and R11. Modern air conditioning systems often use more environmentally friendly refrigerants like R134a or R410a, so you shouldn't be looking into R22, R12, or R11 as all 3 of those deplete the ozone layer hence why they've been phased out.
