@Noremak_Notrap it's just not fun anymore. It used to take strategy to win games now. I just played some master duel with Maxx C. People don't even break a combo or stop the spamming. They just keep going, lol. It's crazy, Maxx C used to make players stop spamming.

@@Noremak_Notrap I agree. I have never seen so few players now at locals. I also never heard anyone ask for a faster game. This format have made players really leave the game.

I left the game a while back during Mystic Mine format, but I kept a very watchful eye on the state of the game since then. The slew of tier zero formats was broken up by the oasis that was pre-AGOV in the mid to late summer of 2023 only to once again be ruined by more power-lept cards. I was even considering returning after they hit Snake-Eye since it seemed like they were moving in the right direction with the banning of Baronne and Savage, preluding to what seems like an almost-guaranteed Apollousa ban, but the more cards I see revealed for future sets, the more I realize they intend on amplifying everything I despise about the direction of the modern game: the reliance on hand traps, one-card advantage engines, and negates on anything that isn't a trap card. No matter how much we grieve and complain, Konami refuses to listen to reason, so I've taken matters into my own hands and built my own massive cube that includes almost every draftable card in the game and I can set the pace of the game to something actually reasonable. WotC should also pay Konami for getting me into MTG Commander.

I put my time in for over 18 years from 2002 to the pandemic. I looked around my area and all I could find was the dwindling amount of players. The main problem with the game is its not welcoming to new players. A shop can thrive on just the core group if there even is one. Every year more and more leave. The age of most players is pushing to their 30s or older. (Myself 38) My kids played for years and now don't find the game enjoyable. So they stopped. The point of the game is interactive, and when its not because of design, they will come try and say NOT FOR ME. Locals are dying. Remember when you could get 20 plus players with all different levels of decks. Yes there was meta, there was rouge, and there were new/inexperienced players. When the meta or game over the past 5 years don't allow the rouge or new/inexperienced players to play then they don't. Then the field is cut in half, 20 to 10, then the meta player start to leave because life happens or there not enough players to play with. SO they leave, now your locals is saying..... IF... we get enough players we'll have a tournament. Everyone says YCS BLANK having record numbers, thats fine, but without local and NEW BLOOD then all thats left is a dying game. I seen it as a MTG player, and yugioh hang around, its just a sad sight. When a shop trys to throw a BOX tourny and only 4 players are there to play we have a big problem.
@TeamOlympusTCG
@TeamOlympusTCG Месяц назад
well said. I agree with all of this. The worse part is, you have players telling other new/older players to move on. The Boomer thing is funny, thats i guess an insult. We have these types of players now more than I have ever seen. I go into post from new players asking for help, only to see insult after insult. Its crazy, it is like so many forces are trying to kill this game. Some have said it needs a reset, maybe that is the thing that brings it back to playable again. About new players, you are right. Without them coming in, there will be no more game. They are priced out, and then its hard to get help online from players. Locals was a good spot to learn and hang out. Cant learn or hang out when no one shows up. They then move on to the other games they see being played.

The thing I hate with Konami is that they're very slow on supporting legacy archetpyes. They just created a lot of new archetype, and Harpie as a deck is nearly playable.

I have yugioh playing friends who are in straight up denial. When we play magic and someone has a game winning storm turn, they're like "see, magic has solitaire too". Like bro yes but that doesn't happen until many turns in, and there's three other people to interact with the combo. In yugioh, it's every single turn 1 play. "but my deck sets 4 and passes", brother that deck does the same shit but on the other persons draw phase.
@TeamOlympusTCG
@TeamOlympusTCG 2 месяца назад
@lit_wick lol, you are correct. Magic you have to build up, and the other players get a chance to play a few times. It used to mean something and be rare to get a FTK, or and OTK in Yugioh. Now if players don't do it, they say your deck sucks lol.
@bigmanwonderland2296

The problem here is that you're comparing the wrong format of mtg to yugioh, which essentially is a vintage format in mtg with tweaks.

@lit_wick I'm saying yugioh is essentially vintage mtg format and that you're comparing yugioh to a multi-player casual base. I'm not trying to debunk your point but rather strengthen it with a more suitable comparison.

One thing always hear within the YGO community, YCS always has record numbers in attendance. However I never see charts from the YCS before to show these record numbers. To be honest I feel Konami says this to try to get new players. YGO has had cancer for a while. It just took now for the community to realize it.
@TeamOlympusTCG

@SoloFan87 I agree, we see all these record comments, but going to locals it's a different thing. No one shows up.
@Mosiak1897

That is probably because only the hardcore dedicated players go as well. I mean, there are a lot of sharks in the ocean but the ocean is very vast and deep.

@SoloFan87 2 месяца назад
@@Mosiak1897 I get that with the hardcore YGO players, it’s funny it seems the YGO community is always dodgy with this. Why is it hard to simply get charts to compare the year before attendance to the current. This is why I call B.S. on these so called “Record Numbers” in attendance.
@DragonBallsolosyourverse

But its pretty much 90 percent of the whole player base showing up That's why If you look at steam charts, master duel barely gets anybody playing

@@DragonBallsolosyourverse Once again this is what I feel is the problem with the YGO community and these "Record Numbers" in attendence, Where are the actual data sheet charts. i hate how fast decks become obsolete and power-crept now. Cramming 12+ hand traps in your deck is ridiculous. i might as well just not play my favourite cards and just play a hand trap deck.

This is not why people are leaving the game, this has been how YGO has been for almost 10 years. The game is struggling right now because of many factors
@TeamOlympusTCG
@TeamOlympusTCG 2 месяца назад
@LeonTGBU it seems like a lot of players are leaving based on the format and the prizes. A lot of top talent have voiced their concerns, and some are jumping ship. Most will always come back. It's the love of the game, but when you feel like you are not a valued player, it makes it easier to pack up and go.

Yugioh isnt dying and never will. Its a game that developed its own complexity over the years and is beloved by both casuals and competitors alike. Konami does cater to the older fanbase with events and formats. However, I do acknowledge it isn't a perfect game either. No game is....and it all boils down to preference.
@TeamOlympusTCG
@TeamOlympusTCG 2 месяца назад
@bigmanwonderland2296 I hope it never dies and improves. The bad part is going to shops and not seeing players. It's also pricing out players. Not everyone can afford a 500 deck, and then there is a chance cards get banned and lose the money.
