I grew up with a father who said "Be a man, go outside and play sports, not with cards and toys". Seeing a father support his son, and even engage in the hobby himself is fundamentally amazing to me. Love to see it.

BRO this is crazy. Imagine as a dad, you play a card game, you need a 2000 dollars prize card for you deck, and your son just happens to have because he won the tournament you win it in xD. Love the relationship

"when I stopped playing back then, that's because I didn't need to come to events and support you the same way, cause you had already far surpassed anything I could do and you were able to travel on your own; it was really about playing with you." that's one of the sweetest things I've ever heard :´)

I never had a dad. Never missed him, because I didn‘t know what it was like in the first place and because my mom and my grandmother did everything they could to give me and my brother a great childhood. Still I sometimes kind of wish I could have experienced something like this back in the day. Super wholesome video, Jesse! ❤

It was my favorite duel I've ever had. Me vs my dad, we were both 1 - 1 in a best out of 3 game using Yugi vs Kaiba starter decks and I won with the very last card, a feat that would be considered a true heart of the cards moment in a Yugi deck, this video was so nostalgic and fun to watch, and shout out to all the Yu-Gi-Oh dads

I can totally understand your father, when i was in my early twenties i got diagnosed a degenerative eye disease got the surgery, but it only stopped the progression. I got back with master duel into the game, tried to transition to paper, but i quickly realized i struggle at reading the cards like literally not as a meme xD and i've given up paper play. wholesome video jesse!
@AverageInternetCitizen
@AverageInternetCitizen 2 месяца назад
No reason to give up on paper play just because of a disability. There are phone tools that assist with reading, or you could just ask your opponent to read the cards out if you're worried about wasting too much time with a phone. I'm returning and I've been asking my opponents to read effects and explain their plays constantly, it's not really a problem. Honestly give a yugioh player the room to monologue about his deck and he's having fun so 🤷🏻

This takes me back. When I started to get into yugioh competitively, I found locals to go and start. My father, who wasn't in the greatest health, wanted to spend time with my brother and I. So every Saturday, we would wake up and get ready, and all 3 of us would head to locals. Sadly, my father passed away 4 years ago, and watching this reminds me of all the memories we had playing and time spent together. I really miss him and wish I could replay those days again.

I actually cried when I heard your father state his reasons for why he stopped playing. Cherish it, Jesse. I know you do, but it is so special. The bond you have is something not everyone gets. I didn't get it with my father. I am privileged beyond belief to be a dad and have the opportunity to not make the same mistakes as mine. Your father did better than I ever could and he has at least 15 years on me. Great showing, Mr. Kotton. "Always Marshmellon."

My late father used to play on Dueling Network back in the days. He'd try to get a higher rating than me and my brother. I play since 2005, and have played on and off, but the real competitive game and travel started for me in 2022. That same year, I was planning on stopping the competitive scene, but my eldest son was picking it up, so kept playing. Now we travel a lot, and play competitively. All this playing has strengthen our bond and brought us closer. I'm thankful with the game, and we have no plans of stopping any time soon.

Thanks for this video. My dad has always supported my running journey. I’ve never been that good, but have run in high school and college and trying to run competitively at the professional level. My dad drove me to early morning practices and ran with us in the summer time. Being able to go home and run/hike with him is one of the most special things we do together. And as a new dad, I hope to be as good a dad as he was. I’m glad that you have had such wonderful support and family.

Man this is wholesome. I think we need to do something about the text problem for people with troubled vision. Maybe an app that scans the card adn then pulls up the text in a simplified state with links to explain ruling. Though frankly I think it would be better if Konami did this themselves.

Amazing video man❤My dad passed when I was four so I barely remember him and only know what he was like thru stories or watching old camcorder home videos. I never thought too hard about it because I was so young at the time I think I just became used to him not being there as awful as that sounds. Growing up without a dad is something that I am only really feeling the effects of now 15 years later as I’m a closer age to having a family of my own in only a few years (thats the dream at least). My mom worked grueling swing shift hours for over a decade so my three older sisters had to watch me a lot. But my mom is always super supportive, generous, and selfless. I’ve been lucky that she has supported my addiction to cardboard since I was 8 and now that I’m in college and she’s retired we’ve talked about potentially traveling to bigger events out of state together. This is a game I am extremely passionate about and while I still have so much to master and time/money can be a huge problem I do want to succeed. So even tho I can be moody or grumpy I am very lucky that she’s supported me this far. But I can’t help but wonder how different it would be if he was still around.

Love this Jesse! S/O to your dad, this was incredibly cool to watch. I remember my dad taking me to locals back when I couldn’t drive myself and for Father’s Day I used my tournament winnings of store credit over a period of time on sports memorabilia my dad would enjoy. When he asked how I managed to afford such a neat gift he was shocked to hear it was from winning store credit in yugi tourneys.

this was such a cool video. Im a dad myself now with a 9 year old son, who unfortunately does not share my love for card games YET. He is a gamer but video games are his forte. I grew up without my Dad ever coming to any sports events, much less playing any games with me but not through any fault of his. But watching this made me so hopeful for when I can do something similar with my son. The part at the end almost made me tear up when your dad was talking about enjoying spending time with you and making memories. Ive been playing TCGs for almost 20 years now and this is by FAR the biggest goal I have left in gaming is to share the experience and fun with my son at an event in the near future.

Recently taught my 11 year old son Edison format. I took him with me to YCS Raleigh and he liked looking at all the cards and watching people duel so I decided to teach him the basic ropes so I chose Edison format to start him with. It’s the right amount of speed and combos for him to understand. He’s beat me quite a lot at this point lol I barely have to help him with his plays too. I plan to teach him modern YGO eventually.
