Demolish or bury? Seventy years after the 1953 flood disaster, the Oosterscheldekering is (again) under discussion: the shelf life of the most famous part of the Delta Works is much shorter than we had hoped. Because scientists seriously consider that the sea level will rise further than the forty centimeters the barrier can handle. Hydraulic engineering and nature expert Bregje van Wesenbeeck (TU Delft) explains why climate change is causing problems for the Oosterscheldekering. And why the barrier also makes the dikes further away in Zeeland vulnerable. Plus, what does this also have to do with mussels?
