I think she is a conduit for a layman to appreciate the beauty of music, I am not surprised that she has a large following. I agree with her that one should bring the confluence of Carnatic and cinematic rendation to appreciate the efforts put in by great people to bring the wonderful essence that music to the world. Hamsanadam is so well presented.
Dr.Charulatha is Very Tharough in her subject & Analises Hamsanadam so well. I call such Ragas as 'OPEN ENDED' in my terminology, meaning they give Lots of Room for the Musician to Vary the Beatification & bring Versions / Variety of End products Songs, that R each a class by itself. Hats Off to PhDCharulata.

2 things: 1. Thendral Vandhu ennai thodum song is from the movie 'Thendral ennai thodu'. Maybe, you got it confused with "Thendral vandhu theendum bodhu" from Avatharam 2. Sorgame Endraalum is NOT based on Hamsanadam (Embar Kannan & Arun Prakash discuss this with Ilayaraja himself)
@vallyammal'Ah Aja Aja Kuch keheja kuch keheja' from "Raja jani" is based on Shuddh Sarang which is close to Hamsanadam, differing only in the dhaivatha note
I listened this video many number of times may be because I am addicted to this particular raga. One doubt Smt. Mani may kind enough to answer. There is one song in a Hindi movie 'Rajajani' (Dharmendra and Hema Malini starrer) in which a song 'Ah Aja Aja Kuch keheja kuch keheja' rendered by lataji! I want to know this particular number is based on Hamsanadam. In that case what is the name that is given to this raga in Hindusthani Music ?

+yodump Hello, listen to her show completely. In olden days and in film music, dhaivatham (dha) is used in Hamsanadham. Sorgame endraalum IS hamsanaadham based. Period.

In geetanjali (Telugu), "Om namaha adhara srutulaku" is hamsanadam only. Also "Kandukondain Kandukondain" song (partially) from the tamil film also I believe, please clariiy. "Yamuna Teeram Sandhya raagam" from Telugu movie Anand also is in this raagam only, I think.

Yes, IR has used Sarangatharangini. In Isai Payanam I group Sarangatharangini, Shuddh Sarang, Hamsanadam as the idea is to relate to familiar ragas in Carnatic music, in this case Hamsanadam. Saranga Tharangini has Chathushruti Dhaivatam(D2) while the Dhaivatam that's supposed to have been used before in Hamsanadam is the Shatshruti Dhaivatam (D3).
The song malargale is composed in three ragas mostly hamir kalyani and hamsanadam and the starting portion of malargale that violin ....is set in raaga saraswathi
They are allied ragas. In film music the composers gave priority to bhava and not raga grammar. The dhaivata presence and madhyama variations determine these small differences. In Isai Payanam I discuss under the umbrella of a raga. In this case Hamsanadam is the broad umbrella. Thanks for your questions.

Yes, in Isai Payanam, one groups Suddh Sarang, and also Sarangatarangini with Hamsanadam, as it is only Hamsanadam that is very familiar to Carnatic listeners - the other two allied ragas are not well known. Apart from the scale sa ri ma pa ni sa - sa ni pa ma ri sa, I have come across another scale which is sa ri ma pa ni sa - sa ni dha ni pa ma ri sa. The dhaivatham does add beauty to this immensely melodious and pleasurable raagam.
