The brilliance of Tomita is difficult to understand in the modern era. What he accomplished with a modular and a tape machine was unreal. He would layer hundreds of tracks and mix them down to get a full orchestra, a track at a time, on a 16 track machine. The amount of planning to get a mix that works in the end was insane.

My father met Tomita on an airplane. Tomita was flying to Buffalo NY with a box of special cookies on his lap as a gift for Robert Moog. My father owned and played all of Tomita's early LPs since my father was in the home stereo business and Tomita's albums were widely used to demo speakers and introduce the ill fated quadrophonic systems. They had a lot to talk about. Hearing Tomita play this Disney anthem combines two emotional touchstones from my childhood. My eyes are wet.

He was years ahead technically speaking, and as a musician he was spectacular. He gave me many many hours of beauty and happiness.

What I love most about this is that the ultimate MOOG MASTER Isao Tomita takes time to play this cute little simple tune, on his multi million dollar equipment. 👌👍

Used to listen to this when fellow scholars were listening to Queen or Bob Marley, to name a few. Got laughed at for binging Snowflakes. Never regret it.

Tomita-san was my gateway to classical music. I just loved how he created the most extraordinary sounds, at a time when synthesis was in it's infancy. This...this is just so wonderful. Thanks for putting this online Walter. And yes, I'm typing this through tears.

This is my favorite version of this song... And, I really like the Leon Redbone and Louis Armstrong versions... It always brings tears to my eyes. It IS The Penultimate Version of this song. No words required...

This rendition is both beautiful and immeasurably sad at the same time. I've always loved Tomita's recordings, as he had the ability to trap depth and emotion within his electronic arrangements, which is not easy.

@n.miller907
@n.miller907 6 месяцев назад
@@timbonator1 "The Planets" in particular. All of his albums were conceived for surround sound. Tomita had one album designed for five channels, using one speaker positioned at the top. For a live performance, he recruited a helicopter to carry the top speaker over the audience! The man was a visionary.
