Peter Cushing was a lovely man, and one of our greatest actors. He brought a useless film to life just by being there...sadly missed by many.

I'd like to third that. I've just started watching the old "Hammer House of Horror" type movie's and I remember, even as a child, that it was always the talents of Peter Cushing that made the movie. A movie that wasn't always that great as far as special effects or continuity were concerned. But Peter Cushing always delivered an impeccable performance invariably dressed in an impeccable suit. My mother always spoke so highly of him too ~

You assessment made me chuckle but that film was SO useless that I'm not even sure the great PC even managed to raise it to life. Still, I enjoyed it for its awfulness and for a 'flavour' of Britain around the time I was born.

I 4th that. Amazing gentleman and amazing actor. Love this movie. I visited Peter's last house in whitstable. I met an elderly couple who spoke fondly of Peter. There's a plaque and bench with his name on at the seafront. This great man is truly missed.❤🙏🙏🙏 Rest in peace Peter and Helen.❤❤

Agree. I remember hearing a story that went something like this. He was once playing Frankenstein and the director/writer changed a scene and wanted him to rape a girl. He was furious and said it was tasteless and out of character. He was forced to do it and kept apologising to the actress throughout the shoot. The next day he bought her flowers as an apology.

@@BAKEDPOTATOLARDYASS yes, I saw some behind the scenes stuff and he really prepared for his roles and used to think a lot about physical aspects to the character like posture, mannerisms, breathing, he really elevated his films through his acting. I like this film quite a bit, it's just really slow and natural looking unlike the more macarbe or bombastic stuff you get in Dr Terror's House of Horrors. He could do hero or villain and play it with great flair. Films like this show you don't need a big budget or lots of explosions and action to entertain, if something like this came out now the critics would be calling it nicely restrained and smartly directed.

Island of Terror | Full HD Movies For Free | Flick Vault 2117pm 6.5.22 i have been told to go seek out a decent movie to watch.. allegedly watching films at the same time as others makes for veritable social interaction... hammer films should suffice for a friday night, i feel. but which one to watch? i allus feel i should have all these added to my dvd collection. hammer horror is a decent studio to collect for those dvd shelves... the blurb reads like a stupendously bad review. for a stupendously bad film... which means it's a cheese fest. and wil probably be enjoyed. i have no idea why peter cushing and chris lee were roped into starring in these films - did they have a stake in the studio? their thespian credentials woul suggest their talents aimed for higher things and more noble arts. they were learned gents, after all. anyhow; cometh the film cometh the fear... as you suggest our sensibilities are such that these kindda films are only gonna give 8-15 years olds a fright or the odd scare..... by my teens i was up for more gorish (sic) fare eg: evil dead.

Do you remember the scene where they display Ian Bellos' dead body during the First Autopsy performed by Dr. Landers and Constable Harris? It was the scariest part of the entire movie. It has also been edited out of the VHS, DVD and Blu-ray version of this movie! I am not happy about that!!!

@@BingCherry11 EEEK. Icky! Too much ick started pushing its way into scary movies in the early 70s and I can't watch just anything anymore without knowing when it was made. Very little bearable after the original TxCSM. I walked out of the theater with my hubby that night, pregnant with out second, all darkened up and miserable from sitting through it. I still check out all horror movies to this day, hoping for good stuff, able to get through a few great gems, but so grateful for RU-vid bringing back the old and forgotten. Even the later Vincent Price movies were a bit sick, he admits to loathing them himself and being shocked when he watched them. Same with Christopher Lee.

It has been awhile since I have seen this film and it never gets old. Peter Cushing along with Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Christopher Lee and Vincent Price iis a favorite from the horror film genre. He and the others brought class, elegance and a bit of style to even the most low rated film making each that much more intriguing.

I read in Phil Hardy's horror film encyclopedia that Terrence Fisher had fallen from grace with Hammer and was relegated to directing lesser projects including this one for other studios. Yet this is a good movie in its own right. Wasn't Carole Gray married to director Don Sharpe? Sharpe's "Curse of the Fly" in which she plays the female lead character is a great sci fi horror flick.

I saw this at the drive in during it's early days, the last film of a four feature night. It was always the only horror/sci fi that kept me up at night! I was in heaven when it finally got shown on tv but disappointed when they cut out the amputation. Apart from Cushing and Judd, it has such a good cast - Niall Macginnis, Sam Lydd, Eddie Byrne, and of course Carole Gray's gorgeous eyes. It's good enough for me to own two blu rays.

The east coast of Ireland you say but when they were trying to destroy the silicates with dynamite it looked very much like Black Park. For those who criticise the silicates you have to remember this film is nearly sixty years old. Bearing that in mind this is a great piece of science fiction with not only the great Peter Cushing but the equally great Terence Fisher with strong support from a number of English and Irish actors.
