In this episode we leave Port Erin and head to Knockaloe for the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.
We have a lovely day meeting all the animals, seeing some old agricultural machinery and watching a motorbike stunt show.
After the show we return to Peel for a delicious meal at Royal India.

You may be one of a small number of viewers who were able to see future uploads that were not ready for release 😏 and of course saw them again once finally released. I had a bit of a problem with that which I hope is now sorted.

I was one of those cyclists riding in the video. Thank you for giving us plenty of space to overtake. Can I just say that we were not riding 3 abreast it was two in the front and one behind (kinda like a reverse arrowhead). It just looks like we are from behind. Just need to put that out there!

It’s best if you go 3 abreast anyway so it’s quicker to get past and back in especially on our roads . Cars should be going right over to the other side anyway so have no complaints. If bikes go 3 in a line then it takes longer to get past and is more dangerous imo.

@Carrie Wernham, It really doesn’t matter what you say about riding outside the safety of ‘single file’ on country roads. I was on the mountain road recently in the mist and came upon cyclists in a formation like yours and only for the fact I had my Whitt’s about me, someone could have been seriously hurt. The latest census should tell you that we have an ageing population and most have driving licences! Lycra offers no body protection, yet most I see wearing it seem to think otherwise! What happened to the Highway Code, it was changed to allow this kind of irresponsible riding without a thought for the inevitable consequences. IMHO.

The riding of bikes 3 abreast generally was not the issue for me. My comment was about the danger of staying 3 abreast after rounding a bend. I was trained to look as far ahead as possible on the road which is why I saw you before you disappeared so I was ready for you. If it was me riding the bike I would tuck in for a while after rounding the bend. As it transpired you were making such good progress up that hill you were much further ahead than I expected so there was no danger as I reached you.

@@LifeistooshortCK That bike light has radar (Garmin Varia) so I knew you were coming behind us too. Granted watching your footage I do think I was a little wide coming round that corner, something I will bear in mind for next time. We avoid cycling in the hills when there is poor visibility and I only cycle the Mountain Road when I HAVE too, unless its closed for cycling events like the Gran Fondo last month. Sorry for turning your comments into a mud slinging match. People always turn into keyboard warriors when it comes to the "dreaded cyclist" debate. Yet we were all cheering on Cav in the TDF. Where do you think he started?

Didn’t know they had developed radar for cycles, what a great idea. We experienced the weather on the mountain roads changing very quickly and saw a couple of cyclists who had got caught out. Must be a frightening experience trying to ride through the mist but they have no choice once caught. It was bad enough in the van as you will see in a future episode. Did he start on the island by any chance 😁👍

1) Even in remote places you come across the lycra bandits. I always blow my horn 300 feet before so they all move over. It helps to have a truck horn. 2) A well trained dog doesn't need it's owner to run around like a headless chook. (tongue in cheek) 3) The brown multi-horned Manx sheep might win first prize but what does it taste like ? And do all these kids know where Mable and Dolly are headed ? First rule of farming is NEVER name the live stock. 4) Ice cream, tractors, animals, beer and curry. The perfect episode. Oh, and a couple of dogs. Woof :-)

I have ordered a truck horn off eBay but I am now getting a bit worried that there will not be enough room to fit it. I think these dogs have just entered their owners for the competition really 😁👍. I didn’t have the heart to kill and cook one of the Manx sheep at the show but keep watching to see if we find one at a park up later 😏👍 Ice cream, tractors, animals beer and curry - catchy name for a restaurant chain I think. All those years not studying at marketing school finally paying off 😁👍

Each show will have a new course for the dogs. Different ages will also have different courses. Also, when they come down the back side of the "A" and the teeter totter, both have a yellow area they have to put at least one foot into, or it is a penalty. Looks to have been a nice show, and a good time!

Hi Ken and Carol, the rocks that you show at the start of the video are from the original breakwater that was destroyed in a storm over two hundred years ago, me and my wife Maria have a campervan and we love staying overnight there lovely sunsets, wished we had seen you while you were here I love telling some history of the Island... maybe you will be back...

The course is not standard Ken. The handler must direct the dog around the course. Fred Dibnah from Bolton, would have liked those steam engines. Great video as usual. 👌

How lucky to experience this show. I do love an agricultural show. Also, from my own so far very limited wild camping experience you can’t beat first thing in the early morning, opening the side door, sitting with a coffee and just soaking up nature’s show in front of you. I love an agricultural show especially when they have the tents with the flowers and vegetables, some also have baking and crafts. Thanks for reminding me how much I enjoyed them. I will definitely make an effort to visit some shows next year. It was lovely to see a filling station pre fuel shortages! Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.

We were amazed at how scenic some of the roads were for such a small island. We had very changeable weather during the three weeks we were there but a good amount of sunshine. Hope it clears up for you on Skye, we are enjoying your vlogs. Take care, love to Skye 🐶❤️🚐🙂👍x

Hari OM Adored this episode, country-born gal as I am. That was a lot less frenetic than the Royal Highland Show!!! Not that I have been there for a few years either. Re dog agility - as with showjumping for horses, the courses are set differently for each competition, although of course there are similarities. In the same manner as riders, dog handlers get to walk the course prior to learn the order of the obstacles and then it is very much about how focused their dogs are on their hand and voice instruction to manoeuvre on the day. YAM xx

I used to enjoy our local (Stroud) country show back when all the old hands were taking part but these days there doesn't seem to be the same enthusiasm from the younger folks. But then I don't have the same enthusiasm for it either as the showground is all uphill and down dale and I've got enough trouble on the flat. 😬 That Albino horse had a very laconic smile on his face. I wonder what he knows that we don't? Quite surprised to see your Indian meal with no rice on the table. I'm not a fan of the naan breads so much although I don't mind the odd chapatti or two. It looked a good spread though. 👍

We do enjoy a good agricultural show. We have a good one near us every year at the Ardingly Showground. The Indian meal was very good, especially the cauliflower bhaji with a spicy coating which we had not had before.

Thank you for taking us round the show. I had a huge smile on my face for the whole vlog. The hot dogs looked good, the aroma of them cooking follows you every where until you just have to give in and eat one, no one can resist, it simply isn’t possible 😋😊. Knockaloe, where the show was held was Britain’s largest interment camp during the First World War housing nearly 24,000 internees. I had worked down there for a couple of months after leaving school replacing the old asbestos roof sheets on some of the cattle buildings at the back of the farm. The farmer would often come down to show us pictures of the place back then, explaining how life would work for the tens of thousands of residents!

Dog Agility courses are different depending on grade and size of dogs. I've had 6 dogs over the years and just stopped 2yrs ago when the last one got too old. It takes a long time to train them and they have to be 18 months old before you can compete. It's lots of fun but not easy.

I can certainly see the appeal of Port Erin, wasn't Nigel Mansell a special constable when he lived there? He likes his islands, I bumped in to him at his car dealership (& museum) in Jersey. Only recently discovered the Bee Gees were from the Isle of Man. Top video as always and has been said you do the tourist board proud.

Good to see you both still enjoying your stay on the Island. As a matter of interest, the venue for the Agricultural show is located were there was once an interment camp during WW1. On the hillside to the West, that slopes up towards Corrins Folly, the internees had cut a huge 'three legs of man' into the hillside (so I was told in my youth) It was clearly visible from the main road, at certain times of the year (probably springtime), when the figure would mysteriously re-appear. I don't know if this is still the case these days. I see on google maps that there is now a WW1 interment camp museum nearby. Incidentally, should you be ending your tour any time soon, I would recommend topping up with fuel before your departure. I drove from Woking and down the A3 past Guildford and south towards Petersfield this evening and every filling station I passed was out of fuel. Just a thought...

Great advert for The Isle Of Man. Just in case you forget where you left the van again Apple Maps automatically saves the vehicle's position when your phone disconnects from its Bluetooth or CarPlay. Saved our bacon many times. Oh and now I'm craving a curry!

Ok a bit off topic but I've been dying to ask and now have the time... just wondering what are your thoughts of the Nugget by Ford... and mainly how would the change in the way the pop up works would that be better for your van layout or not? For me I really think its cool how it opens up the back of the van instead of the area above the front seats... seems like it creates more space in a smaller van...

We would like to see a Nugget for comparison and like the rear kitchen. However you do lose the garage space and we are not convinced we need a fixed toilet just yet. The reverse pop top would not work on our van as we need the height at the front for cooking and washing by the sink ☺️

This show was on for two days, some of the bigger ones in the UK run for three or four days. Top foods include hot dogs, noodles, hog roast rolls 🙂

I don't think the sheep really understand to sit still 🤔 apparently once they are turned to sit in their bump immobilisation is a natural physical reaction. They can't help it, but certainly helps when working with them.

NZ police used to use the helmets blue and also white but did away with them in 1995. I used to like seeing them walk their beat in their helmets

Here in California there is a company that makes campers like yours (RECON) but the Nissan NV200 has been discontinued for 2022. So we’re still waiting to see what base vehicle they will use now. Is Sussex campers going to use a different vehicle or are they still making the NV for the UK?

They are now using the electric NV200 and importing secondhand petrol models from Japan. The UK stock is getting depleted as they are becoming more popular. There are a number of decent alternatives but so far Sussex Campervans have not gone for one yet.
