My wife Libby and I have been watching you two ! Since you started the channel and can honestly say you are the very best of what you do...our son has only just shown us how to comment on You Tube and feel qualified to do so after 42 years of Caravanning, campervanning throughout the Uk and France. My wife and I bicker a bit more than you pair out on the tar but would not have it any other way...in conclusion, many thanks for informative, enjoyable and Honest content , on a way of life that has sustained us throughout the ups and downs of what is know as life ! Congrats Ken and Carol and most importantly enjoy yourselves to the max.....many thanks for your efforts. Much enjoyed up here in Scotland !!! CHEERS ! Martin and Libby McDowall.
Thanks for your lovely comment Martin and regards to you and your wife. 42 years, I bet you have some wonderful memories. Personally I think we get more than one life but just in case we intend to enjoy this one as much as we can. Life is definitely too short. Thanks for watching and for finding out to how to talk to us through comments. 👍
I love how Ken speaks to the animals he encounters! When he says, heeelllo, it is so cute! Enjoyed going along with you on your interesting day. The island looks lovely. Ken, I think you owe Carol a coffee!☕️😁
I owe Carol innumerable coffees for the way she looks after me. I think she loves me ❤️. You have to talk to animals to let them know you come in peace 😁👍
Yes, those are rose hips that grow on Rugosa Rose bushes. We have them growing all along the coast here in Rhode Island, US. The roses come in pink, white and magenta
Omg that shot looking down brought back a memory I got to about that point An bailed it whent back down I was only about 8 then lol but it's so nice to look at xx
Ahoy Pirates! So heartwarming to see you out and about! :) Keep going on many more adventures, you lovely folks! Enjoyed this mine ride too! The animals are a huge plus! :D bear hugs, Captain of the good old Blackthorne
Carol is really beginning to enjoy doing a bit of filming which is great as variety is the spice of life. If I talk to animals right I generally find they are welcoming although I have been bitten by more than one dog 😁👍
Hi Ken Carol, what a beautiful place yes the crossing was a bit scary lol 😂 ,a little tight in that tran carriage Ken your head was on the roof lol ,Carol it was interesting about the mines very deep as well ,am I right in saying you got in without having to pay to see the big wheel you lucky buggy’s you hehe got to say this was a very interesting blog with you both telling the history of the subject how far did the rod go to engage the water wheel it seems a long way not sure I understand that?great picture Ken but wear was your pick axe mmm ,well till next time take care keep safe live life ,John 🌹👏🇬🇧👀🥂😂😜🥇🥇🌧🌧
Hi John, yes we got into the wheel (and most attractions free) because we are members of the National Trust and English Heritage. Both of those allow members of Manx Heritage free entry in exchange in the UK. The wheel drives the connecting rod back and forth along that arched track and at the end is a pump that draws water from the mine. I would have loved to see it in action.
Another fantastic production Ken x Carol 👏👏👏😘 IOM certainly looks Campervan friendly That is lovely to see 👍👊🚐🚐🚐🚐 ATB to you both on your tour xx hugs Stephen x
Another fantastic video, thank you Ken & Carol. It would be amazing to see the Laxey wheel running but I guess that's a NO from health & safety. You're right, the conditions down the mine now would be luxury compared to days of old. The youth of today have no idea!
I loved the whole video. Laxy is full Of history and beauty. Thanks for taking us along on the journey. Love the still photos too. The best to you both. Mary
Great vid guys, Laxey is where I stay when I'm over for the TT and the Classis TT/Manx, been staying there for almost 40 years (you filmed the home I stay in), from London originally but living in the USA for the past 22 years it takes a lot more planning these days to do those trips, anyway hoping to retire in a couple years move to the Island and live the life you two are living, Hey maybe you two need to come stateside and borrow our (small for here) RV and do some videos here!!!!!
I am sure one day we will return to the States and do some filming. We absolutely love it over there and have visited several times. Good luck with the move to the island when the time comes, it is a wonderful place. 😁👍
Well......... I don't know what happens next but I do know you got home safely 😌 I enjoyed that. Thanks for climbing that winding staircase for me. I'm not afraid of heights, never have been but I can't get up and down steps like that anymore so you two showing us is the only way I was going to see those views. My home page shows this one as uploaded five hours ago but it pinged in my inbox at 22.05 odd isn't it. Sleep tight both. 😬
RU-vid has been really strange for a while. I am supposed to be able to upload as ‘unlisted’ which means people shouldn’t see it until it’s ready for release. That has proved very unreliable of late. Now I have to upload them as private first as there is a bit of work to be done on them before they are ready to be seen. That messes with the release data. 🙄👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I've been firmly convinced for two or three years now. That's what social media sites do best, mess with the data. 🤔🤣. There are a couple of American contributers that I don't actually subscribe to as I consider a lot of the output irrelevant and the Vloggers have that kind of accent and tone that is quite annoying ( politically correct, not ) and nevertheless I'll get an immediate ping for new content which will then show on the homescreen. Two days later if I haven't viewed it it will pop up in notifications but obviously never in Subs. Conclusion: what you and I want is irrelevant, RU-vid pushes what it likes and by whatever algorithms it pleases. I only have two social media accounts. RU-vid and what my granddaughters used to call Bookface when they were little. I won't use all the others as I think they are mainly, what do they call it, clickbait ? 😬
Laxey is so picturesque. That house up on the cliff edge has a great view, i guess they are money people. Love the sound of the sea its so relaxing. I see you came across a tourist cat as it had a tail 😂 Manx cat's have no tail. You may have misread the map but us girl's can't be exspected to be good at everything 😉 Interesting video and very informative. ❤️💙 XX
My mum used to have a Manx cat, it was lovely. No idea where they got it as to my knowledge they never visited the island. We have a new gadget that will hopefully stop us taking a wrong turn in future. 👍
The "derelict house" on Laxey prom used to be a good cafe and shop in the good old days of mass tourism (which was just about still going when I was little). I was brought up in Laxey (it means "Salmon River" in Norse) before it became more of a dormitory village for Douglas, and when there were many more small shops and cafes, putting greens and the like. My Dad worked for the man who had the concessions at the Wheel and Glen Gardens - the shop etc at the Wheel burned down years ago, and all the swings, boating lake etc in the Gardens have long gone. I am now in Panama - a very, very different sort of place!
Hi Ray. We love hearing about the history of a place from any period. We saw photos of the tourists visiting in the past. Thousands of them arriving daily by steamer. How did you end up in Panama ?
That graunching noise at the end was rather worrying. I hope whatever it is will be a cheap and easy fix with more zip ties. Beautifully shot video from a great height.
Lovely photography Carol you look more at ease and relaxed while filming now really enjoyed watching your tour around very pretty I do the nachos meal and instead of chilli mince I make it with a small jar of pasta sauce you can get them chilli's in and add chopped peppers and ham or chicken and put come Mexican chilli cheese on top with grated cheese for a different variation of this ease meal you both looking very relaxed and happy 😊 new places I think gives us a different glow on the outside appearance wise 😀thank you both efforts are appreciated looking forward to the next installment of your adventure take care 🙂👍
Well done for both climbing to the very top, great shame the wheel wasn't operational. They seem to have replaced the older rickety and rusty flat iron handrails making my journey back down in 2012 very intense especially as the treads were wet from the wheel spray. I remember that archway! Looking forward to what happens next. Good work.
It would have been great to see the wheel turning, we have seen videos of it in motion. So glad they replaced the handrails your experience sounds quite scary!
Seems I’m always taking a break from a kitchen duty to sit n enjoy your video. So thanks in advance. I put 20 pounds of butter on the stove to make ghee for the dairy free people in my family. If they buy it, it costs 9.00 for a small jar. The butter costs 3.00 a pound. So it’s cheaper if grandma makes it😀. Great video
The water wheels look interesting I expected at any moment to see Fred Dibnah hiding behind a wall. Well done for climbing up the wheel. Not sure I can wait the suspense is hard bear. Thank you for sharing.
Lovely to see the IOM. We live on the cumbrian coast and can see snaefel very clearly. Unfortunately we do not have a ferry to the IOM. There is a boat that goes once a year for a day trip. And glad to see that cat had a tail 'Manx cat'.
Looks like it’s RV friendly all around a bit tight here and there.I’m going to say I’ll be going there next year.you’re given me a loverly tour so far looking forward to see next episode,I was there in the 90s for 3 years running on motorcycle.
It’s well worth it and the main roads are perfectly fine. It’s only off the beaten track it starts to get a bit tight. It’s the most RV friendly place we have been to.
Thanks for the video! The cafe you mentioned on Laxey front sells amazing, locally made ice cream when open. Hope your van is okay (although I may have shouted at the TV when you ended the video so abruptly!)
Really interesting video and area. Unfortunately I’d probably have been that woman stuck to the handrail, bless her 😂 I’m not too good with heights either. Oooh the noise on that bend did NOT sound good 😳
Hello Ken /Carol great video loving your IOM trip so far, its on my list for sure I just can't wait to be able to travel again . Love the part in and around the Laxey wheel very pretty everywhere also nice to be in an area with less traffic and people. Take care always.
Loving Isle of Man … small train small journey I guess lol …didn’t realise how big that wheel was until you got up close …. Sound of metal goes straight through me …
Very enjoyable video Ken and Carol. Quite a mission going up the spiral staicase by the Great Laxey Mine Railway and Wheel. Amazing to think the wheel is the biggest in the world. Also interesting to go in the mine and get a feel of what it was like. Good job you both had hard hats on. Surprised to see no lights but only give way signs for the trains/tram. Thanks very much for sharing.
You are not as surprised as we were. They are very laid back on the island in a good way. They don’t go in for endless warning signs and trust more to common sense. 👍
Great video. I saw you were using your phone for directions.. I used mine for awhile but at 73 couldn’t see it that well. I bought a Garmin Drive 51 with a 5 inch screen and found it works great and I can see it well. It was about $106.00 and comes with free lifetime for maps.
I remember hitting my head off that beam at 19'44" left a red mark on my baseball cap, and the less said about my head the better :) Pity the wheel wasn't running as the flow of water looks quite spectacular. I walked up to it from the Electic Railway Station, so when I returned to get the tram back to Douglas, I made sure I had time for a quick pint of Bushys!
Thank you for sharing the village of Laxey with us..Found the enormous water wheel interesting and the height of it amazing..I too am not found of heights, when visiting the Grand Canyon not able to go on the clear platform and look down into the canyon...able to see the canyon a few feet from the edge and just look across never down. The lady with the death hold on the hand rail should have kept both feet on the ground..😊 Do have a question...you mention on some videos how warm it is...Does the van have factory air conditioning, as here it is a must, no need for a heater? Stay safe from Arizona🌵🌞
I am not keen on heights but going up there was fine. The Grand Canyon is vast and we had a beautiful trip there years ago. Our van has the normal aircon that you would find in a car so it’s not really designed to run when parked as you need the engine running. We can normally control the inside temperature quite well by covering the external windows in reflective screens. Failing that we have the two fans which are remarkably effective in bed at night 👍
Thank you Ken for the air conditioning information on your van..glad you have air, as it has been so warm in the UK this summer...Yes, the Grand Canyon is amazing..taking the steam engine train from Williams to the canyon is worth the expense, just impressive..Thanks again for the response...stay safe..looking forward to the next video, hoping no damage to the under carriage of the van.. 😯
Thanks for watching. We have no plans to go abroad at present, still wary of the traffic light system and all the vaccination and testing requirements.
love your vids so much. Please may I feedback wasn’t so keen on the spoiler at the beginning, because when you took the tight turn I thought Ken was going to be angry with the lovely Carol and that would have been awful. However, I did watch the next video and relief!! all was ok. thank you so much - I want to go to Laxey now!!
You say that the drone flyer was flying his drone in a “restricted area”? The Isle of Man Civil Aviation Authority is separate from the CAA, just as all Manx legislation differs from the U.K’s. The only restricted areas on the island for drone flying are within a 5 kilometre radius of Ronaldsway Airport, the Isle of Man prison (built within two of runways at Jurby airfield, these runways are also included), the temporary exclusion zones during the TT bike festivals which includes the whole of the course during race weeks and practice weeks and Andreas airfield at any time. Laxey foreshore however is no where near any ‘restricted areas’. If he allowed his aircraft to take off or land within 30 metres of any person, or fly it within 50 metres of any property or person, then he would be infringing the IOMCA’s CP4 which is entitled “Guidance for operators of small unmanned aircraft in the Isle of Man”. I’d be interested to know if he did in fact infringe these distancing guidelines?
@@LifeistooshortCK 😊😊😊 thanks for your reply, ☺️☺️☺️ well, if you gotta go, yer gotta go. Watching your video now, gonna catch up with the Ireland to New Brighton vids later, in Halewood Liverpool so found the Pier Head Ferry departure vids interesting, great vids by the way, love em. We have stayed many times at a caravan camping site called Llecyn near Porth colman on Llyn peninsula. About 9 miles along the coast from Morfa Nefyn, visited that Kebab house many times, you missed out on the paper bag of lovely chips. 🍟😊😊😊 Thanks for posting, Vinny.
@@LifeistooshortCK very nice, served in a brown paper bag, lurrrrvley. Might sound mad, me, my partner my brother and my daughters partner went on a evening road trip from Liverpool to Morfa Nefyn just to get their kebabs, chips and shared a great pizza they do, my daughter Debbie who was having a fantastic holiday in Vegas, grand canyon new York got a right mood on when she heard her boyfriend Steven had gone with us on our road trip. Visited Aberdaron before heading home. We sat in that national trust car park where you stayed the night. The one on way to golf course. Ty Coch is nice village on the sea just down road from that car park. Great pub food to be had there. Pronounced tee Cork. 😎😎😎😎😎
@@LifeistooshortCK Watched it through. A very nice place you've visited. I recommend Kongsberg Silver Mines when you get to Norway. Kongsberg Sølvegruvene - The Kings Silver Mines. The tiny train goes 1.2km into the mountain (slightly uphill) and you can walk around inside the old workings. Fascinating place. Put it on your list.
Hi, just a question we are thinking of getting the ridge monkey, is yours the XL? Is it big enough for you both? I’m swaying towards the XL to the combi one! Xx
