I had to go threw the samething, for my thyroid cancer. Very sick, and very tired, I couldn't see me young children at the time of these treatments. For exposer to them..( radiation ). I was very depressed.. Hope your doing better than that day.... To me, my health has never been the same, always sick, but I keep on smiling and keep on going... God Bless, keep your chin up!!!

I’m gonna have a radioactive treatment but here in my hospital in the United state will send me home and they told that I have to stay in my room for three days . The health care system in the USA is different , I wish we have a better health care system, here they send patients home .

it depends on the dose of radiation.. if they need to give u a high dose u will need to stay in the hospital for at least 3 days...i will be having RAI end of this month and it's gonna be a high dose so my dr told me i will stay in the hospital..i have thyroid cancer and spreaded on my lymp nodes and some also matastasized in my lungs and brain..i'm a little bit scared but praying that everything will be ok🙏🙏🙏

I’m going to have RAI in a month... and honestly, I’m scared although IDK why coz my mom had the same treatment. I guess I don’t like the isolation thing.
I just got out of hospital 3 days ago from this treatment here in Australia. Over here you can’t take any personal items in with you so all you have is a tv. The clothes I wore in the room (my own not hospital ones) I had to throw away in a special bin before I left and my food came in disposable plates and tray
Thanks for the video but question, won't your personal items like laptop be exposed to the radiation? Waiting for my next appointment to see if I'm required to do Radioactive Iodine Therapy for my hyperthyroidism.
Thanks for the video, my radioactive iodine therapy is coming soon on 26 October 2020 and curious on few things, from your video, are we allowed to bring laptops and phones? I see you brought your own snack, do the hospital provide snacks for tea break and supper? And are we allowed to shower daily like usual?
I had my iodine therapy 7days before. Still i am on isolation. Feeling nauseated, tiredness, abdominal discomfort like feeling fullness always, severe gastritis.... how long it will be there? Is it ok to contact with my kids after 3weeks and is it ok to share toilet??? Please give me answer.. i am depressed coz of isolation...
Sorry for the late reply! The hospital should have given you guidelines on when it's ok to be around children? I don't want to give any false information since I am not a doctor :D Hopefully you are feeling better by now! Hang in there.
I need help may mother need an RAI,but sad to say we have no money ,the doctor said we need 50-60 thousand,i love may mother but i cant afford b'coz i have no work for now..
hey I'm doing the same thing in a few days! I'll be in isolation for just about 2 days then I will be free to go home.. my only question is (you can only answer this if you have a pet/dog) when you got back home how did that work for you? And I live with my family and we share the same bathroom?!! Is that gonna affect them?
Daniela Gabrielle I just kept my distance from our dog. I'm sure that the hospital staff will be able to answer your questions also :) I had the opportunity of using a separate bathroom for a couple of days afterwards. Small kids have the most risk from the radiation. Hope the treatment went well!
It went very well. Thank you! They did answer my questions although I completely forgot to ask them about garbage disposal and they didn't tell me anything about it so.. I tried googling there's so many different answers. Did you do anything "special" for wastes disposal? I'm so sorry to ask you this. LOL.
This might be a bit late, but im wondering about the food restrictions.. Im a Swedish nurse at an oncology ward, and we have pretty strict food restriction for our radioiodoine patients. From what i can gather, you are Finnish, and i guess you were treated in Finland aswell? Do you still have the pre- treatment info by hand? If so, i'd love to take part of it, with translations ofc ! ;)

Hi... I'm not sure if you can read this but I'm just wondering how much you paid for the treatment? I'm gonna have mine done this Monday may 15, 2017 and I'm just wondering of how much it will cost. I have hyperthyroidism.
Nesthy Adventures I don't remember the exact figures, but it was probably somewhere around the €200 range. Heathcare is quite affordable in Finland. Good luck with your treatment!
Hi, How a you? I hope u a getting well day by day. My sister is going on RAI treatment in 14th, July, 2017 in Thailand. She worries that RAI cannot help her from Thyroid Cancer....I don't know how to motivate her.
I'm sure everybody has the same worries. If it doesn't work the first time, then there's always the second, third time. Just have to be positive! I hope it goes well for your sister!

Elnino Naluan Doing good now! RAI is a pain-free treatment 👍🏼 No side effects besides the constipation and dryness of the mouth. Good luck with your treatment!

The iodine given is radioactive, it emits gamma rays, which are dangerous. So to minimize the damage done to others, the treatment is given in isolation.
Levothyroxine (T4) is the main drug used. It takes time for it to build up in your system. Liothyronine (T3) is fast acting - people usually take 3 of these a day, morning mid day and evening. Sometimes you're put on a combination of T3 and T4 - like I am.
