"A combination of factors which could work well" From this conversation which could be just depressing, I'll take that sentence and let it sink in my heart. Great interview, again, Thomas!
Thank you, lots covered intelligently. The crucible of World Peace needs to get forged rather quickly to remain an optimist on a rapidly warming planet!
Professor, Dr University guru - if israel were so genuinely concerned with "security" it has had myriad opportunities to address this in a peaceful, co-operative manner under accordance international law, international humanitarian law and legion UN resolution and entreaty countless aid agencies and NGO. I got thus far.
He’s talking crap. He views this as a conflict between two conflicting parties not as a continuation of 75 years of vicious colonial domination by Israel. Israel was traumatised by October 7, an occupying power. Occupied people has a right to resist. The coloniser has no genuine grievances.
No he is not talking crap. He is just stating how Israel feels, he is not justifying their actions. He’s a researcher, an academic. He supports the Palestinians, and points out that Israel in the long run will suffer. Listen.
@@EileenHall-j9fyoutube comments really highlight how westerners especially tend to not listen at all. But i can understand most everyone is bombarded with propaganda narratives and distractions or are to busy working two jobs surviving. But still you made an important point , no informed alert citizenry ,no democratic politics. Then you get the kind of criminal murderous and inept entrenched ruling class that bring about the kind of tragedies we see all over the world it's a shame.
His definition of “war” is bothersome. Israel has an army, navy, Air Force, nuclear weapons, unlimited support from the U.S.. Palestinians have none of these.
A tad bland, I feel, especially on April 2nd, as things have moved on. I'd agree that many with pro-Palestinian leanings underestimate the shock felt by Israelis following the October 7th atrocities, even though that in no way excuses the genocidal campaign in Gaza, which looks as if it's going to get much worse before it stops. I hope Iran does not give Bibi an excuse to involve the US in the war, something he's wanted to do for an age.
Global Problem: Human Corruption (follow money, legislation, and devastation) Global Solution: Artificial Intelligence (secure, transparent, democratic systems that ensure real liberty, equality, and justice) Class War not Civil War! Global Elites are the major shareholders of the military industrial complex profiting from war. RU-vid video: "Global Declaration of Independence - Fight the Power"
So interesting to hear this conversation - Israel/Palestine issues discussed clinically and dispassionately, with a call to understand Israel’s behavior based on its feeling of insecurity. I guess if you are inculcated in the mindset of permanent victimhood, then permanent insecurity is the logical conclusion. I sense a huge number of Jews outside of Israel see themselves as survivors of an atrocity that they wouldn’t want to be visited on another people. I agree with you Thomas that there is a possibility that Israel might destabilise from within. Do you think the tipping point might be the recent Israeli supreme court orders to end subsidies for ultra-Orthodox men who avoid conscription? I was disappointed that your guest gratuitously threw in a few British flavored Russia tropes, projecting the view that Putin specifically wants to regain the Russian empire contrary to the evidence of NATO expansionism, decades long attempts to negotiate and broken promises by the West.
Enough with the Holocaust Jews. What about soviets, the Roma people Congo, Namibia, Ruanda... They are in no way unique. And Israel is now committing genocide torture thieving starvation
Mincing words in a british accent never goes down well with me. Gaza is a genocide which is happening now and we need strong voices of outrage and this gentleman is soggy.
43:00 I find it slightly concerning that he does not distinguish between civilian and military deaths when talking about the death toll from Gaza compared with the military toll of Israel. He also paints the Israeli perspective very well but falls short on the Palestinian perspective. It's also quite revealing that he employs passive, third person nouns when describing them. Whether this is just a force of habit or paints a biased viewpoint, is a little unclear, but it is indicative of the limits to his understanding.
He lost me completely when he moved on to Climate....there has been climate alarmism for many decades - Acid rain, Ozone layer, Polar Ice-caps melting....and now warming....always something to be fearful of!
Turns out those are all real issues most people are concerned with these things because of the wildlife , no human civilization without a functional biosphere/habitats.. And young people but you just crawl back under your rock and live in denial it's doubtful you have any of value to contribute anyway.
