Israel Keyes

On this episode of the Unresolved Podcast, I take a look at Israel Keyes, a man that many investigators have labelled "one of the most methodical serial killers of all-time." This is a slight twist on the typical "unsolved mystery," because the killer is known beforehand, but the victims and the crimes still remain a mystery.
Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan.

If you tone down rhe volume on the intro and in between music that would be good and then the podcast would be perfect! No disrespect Michael. just shocks the ears at first.

I listen to many documentaries and podcasts, it’s great to listen firstly to a real voice for once! Very well read and not to quickly so it can be enjoyed. You clearly do your research and it makes for great listening. I have subscribed and will be recommending you to friends. Thank you for all your hard work.👍👍

Man for me the most terrifying thing about the poem at the end is how fucking good it is. The black soul of a serial killer but a soul none the less.....horrifying to think about.

I agree but he was always thought of as intelligent. It’s not a popular thing to say but he was clever-whether he was deep which is what is required for poetry of this emotional gravitas I don’t know. I have tried to see if any of it has been plagiarised from other poems especially song lyrics and nada, nothing, it’s all his . All in all , it makes me feel empty .It is catalogued as an original work under his name on Allpoetry . Titled “ Open Your Trembling Flower “

^ I agree. Many people have high bodycounts just by giving someone an overdose. They dont even have to be physically present, just measure insane amount of fentanyl into your heroin before you pass it into people who distribute it on the streets. Boom, 50 overdoses and not a word of intentional killing.

I loved your Original Night Stalker trilogy, truly terrifying! I love the music and atmosphere, like the sudden inhale of breath during one part of the EAR episode, part 3 I believe. Sick! I live just one mile from one of the houses in Concord that he attacked at. I walked over there and immediately could see why he chose the area: next to Bart tracks, no neighboring houses on the road he parked on. So glad they caught him. Keep up the podcasts, I love them! Peace.

+Woody Allen - Hey there, Woody! I'm actually working on two new episodes right now, and I'm hoping to get one out by this Friday (January 29th). I don't have an actual schedule for the podcast (since it's basically a hobby, something I do on the side), but I would love to try and stick to a biweekly schedule for the next few months. Eventually I would love for this to become a weekly podcast, but we'll see how that goes. But thanks for listening and supporting the podcast! Stay tuned for a new one sometime this week!

While his religious upbringing undoubtedly played a factor in his life, harping on the fact that one neighborhood family grew up to be white supremacists to imply that he would be more inclined to violence does not follow. It could just as easily be the reason he became atheist and rejected religion because the people he saw practicing were crazy. A more substantial link to religion’s effect on him is his shame around the sexual acts he performed.

Bro, you did your research and did your own thing. Honestly i have listened to so many podcasts or documentaries on this person ( isreal keyes) And everyone is the same, they focus on him getting caught for samantha and then his confessions. You dug into how and why and when of him. And tked about information on isreal keyes. That isnt in those other podcasts. Really good job man. Im new to your chnnel now i cant wait to start your othef podcasts if you did this for isreal i cant wait tl see what you do for other well known seriL killers i mean you cant find many unknown facts but you can still make it your own and try to focus kn other info that isnt on evrry single other podcast or docu. My boyfriend and I had a run in with this creep on bike trail in Anchorage. Didnt realize it was Isreal Keyes until I saw picture of him in paper with shaved head, all previous pic showed him with hair. When we ran into him late that night in the fall he was wearing a dorky indiana jones style hat. He zoomed past us on bike trail and was holding what appeared to be a crow bar sharpened on one side...I asked boyfriend what the hell was that a crow-chete?? Super creepy...Guess I should write a short story or something.

Hey Michael love the podcast huge fan of the unknown and very interested in serial killers and true crime docs, writings, and tv programs. I would love to see one on Edward Edwards, John Cameron has stuff out there but its very repetitive and bland. Would love to see what else you could dig up on the man who Cameron believes to be the most prolific killer of our time. Its up your ally because Edwards is suspected to be involved in soo many unsolved and high profile murders. I would also like to see an unresolved podcast touching on the Zodiac

I really like your dialogue and voice. However, if your audio quality could be addressed, it would take you to another level. There is a lot of pop and the audio needs to be compressed. Also, the constant background music is distracting and will pull most listeners out of the story.

I like your podcasts, but I'm not too keen on your apparent assumption that atheist = leads to being a serial killer. I understand you're US-based, and that you guys have a pretty strong Christian rhetoric, but the majority of the rest of the western world would consider ourselves secular/atheist/agnostic and we don't have anywhere near the problems that you guys do with serial killers and the like.
@unresolved
@unresolved 8 лет назад
+thesmallpoxchampion - Thanks for the comment. I apologize, as that wasn't what I was trying to imply at all... I am personally not a religious person, so I have no desire to make atheist or agnostic people seem "wrong" by any stretch of the imagination. That wasn't my intention, so I apologize. I was just trying to state how Keyes' odd and mysterious upbringing, mixed with his turn away from religion and admiration of guys like Ted Bundy, is what caused him to go down his own sociopathic path (one not firmly tied to religion, just morality).
@thesmallpoxchampion
@thesmallpoxchampion 8 лет назад

@Holy_hand-grenade
@Holy_hand-grenade 8 лет назад
that's horse shit. the US has half a billion people and the best law enforcement databases in the world. if you added up a bunch of other western countries, and gave them the kind of databases that could prove serial patterns, my guess is it would be roughly even. serial killing isn't an American specialty. look at South America, Australia, Japan, Germany and the U.K. Plenty of serial killers. We have an issue with spree shooters, but not serial killers... just a lot more people and more aggressive LE/ bigger databases.
@Holy_hand-grenade
@Holy_hand-grenade 8 лет назад
and so far I have not heard him make that assumption, but if he did, then obviously that's not correct. plenty of Christians & atheists alike have serial killed.

Or the villisca axe murders never solved! Or the axeman of new Orleans, also never caught, some ppl think villsca n new Orleans murders were considered to b the same killer, being that the axeman of new Orleans killed in other states bedsides new Orleans, n being that there were striking similarities at all the axeman's crime scenes that macthed the villsca murders! All done with axe, mirrors around the house were all covered. Both scenes showed the killer was waiting in the house hiding in attics for a day or two waiting for the right moment then striking, usually while the families slept! Eating the victims food n drink afterwards, n leaving CIG butts and human waste behind where he lied in wait last known murders were in 1912 also the year of the villisvc murders! N in my opinion, this is the SAMe killer in all the crimes, besides the same things being found at each crime scene as found in villsca, the other reason is because that method of killing with an axe is rare, very unlikely u would have two axe killers doing the same things in each crime scene as the other axeman! So same dude in my opinion. I'm a criminal profiler n used your original night stalker story as a guide for understanding these types of killers, because there was new evidence recently found n will b revealed soon, have a buddy with San Diego FBI field office! U actually had evidence that no one outside of me n a few others know about! It is out there to find but most ppl didn't know about the original night stalkers letter that was left behind known as the 6th grade letter

I love your podcast. The only issue I had is that you make it sound like him being being an atheist is part of why he was the way he was. Lots of religions people do horrific crimes as well. We don’t know why or how he decided to be an atheist. It could be part of rejection his family values, or mainstream values. When studying atheist we come to find up they comment less crime, have less abortions, less likely to get an divorce.
