I think that thought is highly naive. You see conflict and it makes you uncomfortable, but that is human nature. It's not about religion that humans fight, it's about human nature fundamentally. If you just take away the element of the conflict you see in front of you it doesn't actually solve the problem of humans, it's a temporary idealism to feel comfortable because You've never known a world without religion. Atheism is its own religion, we put things on our altars, be it a rock band, a celebrity, everyone worships something whether they believe they do or not no one is without it. They just accept they do or deny they do.

But there was a thriving indigenous population in Palestine in 1947. 1.5 million Palestinians (mostly Muslim, but also Christian and Jewish) to be precise. While that does not seem like a lot, in 1947 that was a significant number, especially considering the size of the land. Those Palestinians belonged in Palestine and nowhere else. They were way too different from the Lebanese, Egyptians, Syrians, Saudis or Jordanians to ever feel at home in those countries. I realize to Westerners, all Arabs look alike, but they are each diametrically opposed. The Palestinians should have been consulted about what they wanted to do with their own land, and they weren't. The decision should have been theirs, and theirs alone. And for the record, there is no such thing as a "Jewish people". Does not exist. Never has. Judaism is a religion, not a race, not an ethnicity, not a nationality. There are Jews in most countries in Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. They do not come from the same region of the world. There are white Jews, black Jews and Asian Jews. There is no cultural or racial similarity between the Jews from Morocco, the Jews from Ethiopia, the Jews from Iraq, the Jews from Eastern Europe and the Jews from Western Europe. The land area required would have been less than 10% that of the UK, less than 6% that of Germany and less than 1% that of the US. Instead, they decided to carve out 55% of the Palestinian's lands. Or here's a wild suggestion. Jews do not get their own country. Instead, Palestine should have been allowed to thrive and prosper as an independent state, and within it, Jews could have found a place to live and prosper alongside their Palestinian brethren. That option would have been peaceful. The way things were done, there will never be peace, only misery and bloodshed. Israel was ill-begotten, and as such, it will always be cursed.
