Benny Gantz left the sinking ship of Netanyahu, you know, before he gets investigated as and possibly named a war criminal too. A politician won't just quit a powerful position like that without a strong political reason or to just protest something. This might be a sign of things to come.

He's trying to blow up the coalition govt because Netanyahu's popularity is gonna rise now that some hostages are home and it's his only chance of wrestling power from him is by blowing up his coalition. Not reporting that the “rescue” of 4 hostages came with the killing of over 200 Palestinians, including over 100 women and children. A fifth hostage was also killed by friendly fire.
Well , he may got nationalistic when Hamas attacked Israel. But , later found out that the strategy and tactics became prone and desesperated.He refused to follow the Isralian prime minister direction of the campaign. A direction which the IDF will lose more than it can gain for a single street , house , and any advantage point.

Benny Gantz has realized that this war is not a defensive war anymore, and hasn't been since shortly after it started. Hamas has no more capabilities at the moment to mount any military attacks, and yet there doesn't seem to be a shift towards a post war reality that includes the existence of Palestinians in Gaza.
Gantz, and Gadi Eisenkot, both quit, in part, because Hamas has not been disabled. The IDF attacks in central Gaza are a distraction (finding the hostages was a nice bonus) from the fact IDF has been pinned down in Rafah and unable to do anything. IDF was on the news two days ago talking about how Hamas has started using insurgent tactics that they aren’t able to advance against. Hamas ONLY has insurgent tactics. They’re not a military force and Gantz knows that. It’s a militarily untenable situation for IDF.

His resignation doesn't remove Netanyahu from power, but it does signify the end of their relationship. Gantz wants to be Prime Minister. He wants Netanyahu's job.

the fact that your first instinct is to get defensive instead of aknowleging the tragedy that it is. a horrific loss of life, shows how little you care about palestinean lives. two things can be true at once, its a miracle the hostages made it out alive, its also an incredible, terrible, despicable tragedy so many people had to be killed. A normal human being hears this story and at least has the decency to approach this topic with some respect for the dead. this isnt a my team vs your team, i hope you can find it in your heart to treat these people like human beings, not just a way for you to support your side and try and convince people that these people were asking to get killed.

Otherwise it'd be they killed roughly 6 Hamas militants and 250 civilians to rescue 4 hostages. Propaganda wise it's easier to pitch "oh well actually it was only like 170 women, children, and elderly civilians killed"
