The composer of this song is Massimo Ranieri, a much-admired Italian singer and composer. The lyrics are easy to find online, but basically they concern a man (or woman) who is experiencing a brutal post break-up depression and who is attempting to make sense of what went wrong. The intensity of the words is deepened by the fact that the singer is getting older (thus the mentions of wrinkles, white hair , and time running out). He/she has lost the love of his/her life and has plunged into deep self-loathing as a result. The extraordinary beauty of the melody provides a cathartic contrast to the lyrics. Ranieri's own version is raw and intense and well worth hearing, but Lara's performance here raises the song to an even higher artistic level. Thanks in part to her own Italian heritage she inhabits the song entirely and her always breath-taking voice lifts the whole thing to an emotionally shattering climax. It's the perfect marriage of singer and song.

Lara Fabian, her strong but soft velvet voice in all her low and high ranges , that is what me pleases the most ...Some call her voice heavenly, angelic, liquid gold for the ear .. When Celine goes into high notes, it scratches my ears will be with so many other singers....... Together whit Lara's nearly endless breath control...Lara understands and speaks the 5 languages she usually sinning in, That 's why Lara can put so much meaning and emotions in each word she sings. All this together without a cramped mouth or face like most other singers...She sings so effortlessly...I can listen to it all day long without getting tired of her voice... And all this together with the beautiful personality she is.

More information on Lara Fabian: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best. There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence: • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish), can speak a bit of sicilian, russian and dutch, and has sung in 12 languages in total • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer. • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens. A quick background on her and her career: She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both french and italian as native languages. She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music). In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert. But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan. She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months. Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, … With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there. Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her. She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep. He covered many of her songs (that she performed originally ; she also wrote some of these). Out of my mind I can list: ○ Adagio, ○ Mademoiselle Hyde, ○ Know/Vocalise/Ascolta La voce ○ Love of tired swans She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ». And she covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva). They also performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava then again later with Dmitriy and Sumi Jo, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida. Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy who came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him. Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs: ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio), ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime), ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie, Know), ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow), ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace), ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow), ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow), ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow), ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime), ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you), ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Broken Vow), ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow), ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow) ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso), ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie), ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow), ○ Amir (Je t’aime), ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade), ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade), ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow), ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you) ○ .... Today, she still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature. In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

as a French speaker I also struggled with the lyrics but enjoyed the son immensly. I love how she emotes the rage and anger one feels after a break-up especially when you somehow don't understand what has occured. Very few artists emote the way she does.... willing to leave it all on the floor in a true artistic fashion of someone who has engaged and committed everything.

Lara Fabian was very well trained by the best opera teachers from Belgium and Italy, but she decided to sing pop songs, she also has the knowledge to sing in operatic way, she studied from her 8 to 18 at the Belgium Conservatory of Music (there she learned Bel Canto, piano [she composes her own songs on piano)... Then since 1998 she kept having vocal lessons with her Italian teacher untill nowdays, she has two vocal teachers (From Belgium and Italy) and she keeps having vocal lessons at least 3 times per week on-line. Lara also workz as a vocal coach on The Voice Canada, she already worked as the vocal coach at the Star Academy program in France from 2004 /2008. Please react to Lara Fabian - Llora live in Kremlin 2010 (Llora means cry in English) Thank you.

Been following her since 1991 when she moved to Québec Province from Belgium. She wrote more than 200 songs, 16 albums, 30 million sold and now at 53yo still touring the world. Not very well known in The USA, but i will let others tell you this sad story. Every time you ear a new song from her, it becomes your new favorite....Yess theres, Céline, Mariah, Withney, but Lara is in an other league with Dimash

LARA (not Laura) with links: Lara Fabian is a Canadian of Belgium birth and Italian/Franco/Flemish cultural heritage. Lara spent a decade in a Brussels Conservatory studying piano, composition, and voice. Lara is a full lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans three octaves (A5, B4, BB4, C3, C5, C#5, D5, E5, EB5, F5, F#5, G5) in live performances. She is multilingual; in fact, she speaks Italian, French, Spanish, and English and has sung in 12. Lara, who describes herself as a songwriter/singer creates a high level of emotional connection with the listener. She has a discography of over 400 songs, has sold over 30 million records, and plays to sold-out venues worldwide. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with her husband and daughter. A “50 at 50” - fifty live performances celebrating her 50th birthday had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 but has been rescheduled as “The Best of Lara”. The reason why I’m a ‘fan’ is her high level ‘EQ’ emotional intelligence expressed in the text of her songs. La raison pour laquelle je suis un « fan » de Lara Fabian est son « QE » élevé, qu’elle exprime dans le texte de ses chansons. First This was a great reaction to the incomparable Lara Fabian. For this amazing concert, I really recommend you to react using this playlist ru-vid.com/group/PLV-BfzP9ln4xyPy8l43ag7hd20S9PeNiE: it provides recently quality enhanced videos with the best english subtitles. Perdere L’amore is a cover from the Massimo Ranieri, a huge star in Italy. This song is a classic there. Lara’s version as always is amazing and apparently this song is the one that got Dimash totally hooked to her when he was a child, she is still her absolute idol and inspiration and he made several covers of her songs. Massimo’s song speaks about a man who has lost the love of a woman due to his bad choices and is at the same time facing the bitter reality of the loss and dreaming to change the destiny in order to get her back I will post a separate comment with more details on Lara, her background, career and the huge influence she has on the new generation of vocalists

Massimo Ranieri was just the singer of Perdere L'amore at the 1988 San Remo Music Festival, as it was written by Marcello Marrocchi and Giampiero Artegiani. They tried to submit it in 1987 with Gianni Nazzaro singing it at the San Remo Music Festival, but it had been rejected in the preliminary song selection.
