Looking at practice exams is a good idea for issue spoting.

Muchas gracias, soy profesor de Derecho en Universidades Mexicanas, sus videos me son muy útiles para enseñar Método IRAC a mis estudiantes, le escribo este mensaje en español con la intención de hacer notar que su material traspasa fronteras.

Can you do a video on the commerce clause and exactly how much power it has? I haven't been able to find a clear answer and you always make things very understable and clear. Keep up the great content!
@Learnlawbetter

That is a huge topic-one that covers several months in a law school class. Suffice it to say that it is a broad power that covers most economic endeavors in the United States.

Practice problems are a means for learning the material at a deep level, so they should be added to one’s daily review-a few each day.

Professor Baez, would you mind to do a video lecture on statutory interpretation and construction, please? Thank you in advance!

@@Learnlawbetter please do a video on the steps that are required to become a judge in the uniteted states of america.
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 4 года назад
It all comes down to politics. In most states, judges are elected and that means campaigning. In those states, that allows graduates from every law school to compete. But at the federal level, judges are appointed by the US President, which means you have to be active in the President's political party.

Can you expound a bit on the Elaborative Interrogation technique? How can you ensure the elaborative technique to be more effective than re-reading if one is not too familiar with the topic?

Nawww, this is low-grade analysis. Very imprecise and superficial. Don't be so easily impressed. He left out a ton of key stuff, as you should know one year later. What year are you in?

I sometimes have issues seeing the “big picture” as they say when it comes to looking at a class as a whole. Any suggestions to improve on this?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 года назад
Start with the table of contents in your textbook. For example, in Torts, the book might be broken down into intentional torts, negligence, defamation, etc... Keep going back to that for each class session.

Dear Professor Baez, Can you do a common torts exam essay problem then go through a step by step model answer? Also, you could have us pause to do the problem then come back and compare to the answer.

I love your material. My question is once I spot the diff issues how do I introduce them to my essay. Do I have to make a separate IRAC for each issue spotted? If so how does that tie into the initial call of the question if I am stating an IRAC for each spotted issue. Would love some advice.
@Learnlawbetter

One IRAC for each issue.

What's your opinion on the LEEWS method?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 4 года назад
I haven't spent time reviewing it, so can't speak to its usefulness.
@DexterHaven
@DexterHaven 6 месяцев назад
Say what "LEEWS" stands for, silly; don't be a 'looooser'.
@DexterHaven
@DexterHaven 6 месяцев назад
I saw this, "It’s an acronym for (Wentworth Miller’s) Law Essay Exam Writing System. LEEWS is actually several systems - a system for dissecting any essay exercise to reveal “issues” professors (and bar examiners) want identified; a system for doing analysis, and presenting it in concise paragraphs." It has the most wordy, chuckleheaded, redundant, carnival-barker drivel sales pitches online too, which make it seem like a fraud. It says its 3 steps analysis works on any legal exam. I suspect it's too cookie-cutter then. Best to focus on the professor's exact question and answer it with common sense, not to follow another's dogmas.

At that age, focus on learning the great ideas. Read good literature, history, philosophy, and other disciplines. By making connections to the great ideas you will be prepared for life.

You can try getting to maybe. I'm not too deep into it but, just by getting to chapter 3, I feel like I learned a lot.

Do you beleive that law school is just as difficult as medical school or worse?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 4 года назад
It depends on the individual. Some people are more inclined towards the sciences and others are not. In my case, I get weak around the sight of blood--so medical school would have been almost impossible for me. I suppose I would have eventually gotten over it.

@DexterHaven

This is sloppy, weak, and lowbrow, as if he doesn't understand what creates the issues. It's the darn question at the end of the fact pattern. If asked for P's rights against D, don't talk about D's rights against P or C. And don't just say out of the blue "Is this murder one... proximate cause?" either. That's sloppy thinking. See which laws the facts trigger and note the call of the question.

@DexterHaven

Forget that method. It is silly and lowbrow. Look at the call of the question, then see what laws are triggered by the facts, when those specific facts are turned into the 'material' facts, which the laws are stated in.
