Our first port after 3 days at sea was Funchal in Madeira. We had a truly amazing day! We went on the cable car in Funchal and took a ride back down on the traditional toboggans, it was an amazing experience. On Arvia, we ate in the Quays, The Olive Grove and Taste 360, as well as the Horizon Restaurant for some midnight snacks. Our day and evening was packed with entertainment! We were on the maiden voyage of P&O's newest ship, Arvia, in December 2022 out of Ocean Terminal in Southampton! We were onboard for 14 nights. The cruise visited a number of ports in Portugal and Spain over Christmas and New Years. This is the first time we have experienced a Christmas and New Year cruise, and also, this was our first P&O cruise. Our aim is to give you a fair and balanced insight of this maiden voyage looking at the positives, as well as, the negatives that we faced during our time onboard.
We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.
Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks. We include menus for each of cruises so that we can share the selection of drinks and meals that are available. Entertainment onboard a cruise ship is important to us and we enjoy theatre production shows, live music, quizzes and game shows. We love to explore different ports and destinations and enjoy sharing tips and tricks so that you can make the most of each port. We often explore ports independently but also book excursions that are interesting to us.
We have created a list of our cruise essentials. These are items we take with us when we travel and we hope they may be useful to you. We have also added a Wine list which contains some of the wines we have tried whilst cruising.

Both of you are some of the most gracious and accommodating people I have seen. Easygoing in spirit and taking things in stride when things don’t go to plan (dining situations especially). A friend of mine who lives in the UK said those who come from Northern UK are more outspoken while those in Southern are more reserved. Does this tend to hold true? 🙊

Thanks for your comment Chris! We try not to let things ruin the whole cruising experience for us! 😀 We are not negative people and always see the bright side! However if we are not happy about it we will let people know! Yes that’s definitely the trend! But not everyone of course 😆

Great video, so looking forward to visiting Madeira especially the cable cars and toboggan ride. Interesting hearing about the drinks package on P&O, seems like the limitations are too much to make it worthwhile.

Thank you! 😊 Madeira was great and the cable car and toboggan’s were amazing! We were disappointed with the Glass House, as this was our first cruise we didn’t know any different! However drinks are included in the Glass House but we didn’t discover this until later in the cruise!

Do you think the waitress in the Glasshouse was misinformed about the available wines in the package? If it is not listed on the exclusion list at the point of purchase how can they justify the none inclusion. Maybe maiden issue. Thank you Tom &Dom.

Hi thanks for your comment 😀 As this was our first P&O cruise we just took her word for it, until a few days later we were chatting with some other passengers and they said that the Glass house is included in the drinks the package! We went back again and asked a different waiter and were given the same response that the Glass House was excluded from the drinks package! That’s when things got interesting! 😀

Thanks for your comment! We had a few issues on the maiden with our drinks package! 😞 the P&O ultimate drinks package has it limitations but overall we did save money! When you consider soft drinks, coffees and bottles of water we saved around £20 a day each! And we didn’t have to worry about the bill everyday as well! 😀 we did manage to get Arvia to include drinks in the Glass House but that wasn’t until a later in the cruise!

The Glass House is included in the drinks package, you can have any wine by the glass £6.95 and below! 😀 Absolutely enjoy yourself and I’m sure you’ll have a fab time onboard 😀

Hi thanks for your comment. In our VLOG series we cover the events that happened to us during the course of our cruise. The Glass house is included in the Ultimate drinks package and was during our maiden voyage, we just weren't allowed it! We didn't know that at the time though!
