2007 5.2L diesel w/210k miles. Excessive pressure in cooling system is likely a leaky head gasket. Because it runs and drives perfectly I wanted to offer the excess pressure a place to go without taking the coolant with it.
The head gasket fix in a bottle only worked for a few weeks. I’m really glad this fix though temporary has offered me some relief.

I was thinking of something similar just to capture the coolant so I could pour it back in, but this is brilliant. I've put in some Blue Devil head gasket repair pour and go in and it seems to have stopped it enough to where my overflow tank doesn't get overfilled anymore. Not sure how long that will last, but I'll see. If it starts doing that again, I'll consider this fix. Mine is a 97 with the 4BD2 turbo 3.9 liter diesel. I really need this to last a while because it's my work truck and I spent all my savings on my setup to haul granite slabs.

have you ever seen a 5.2 pressurize the cooling system with no misfire, no oil water mix, no combustion gas in coolant, and i blocked off egr lines? cold start up goes from 0psi to 5 psi in 1 minute,, any suggestions? maybe injector tube?

Where can I find the metric valve, what size is it, to put over the thermostat valve?

Guys What is the socket size and type to remove the cylinder head bolts?

So just to be clear, you didn’t change anything to the existing hose that has its own factory expansion tank correct? Beside removing the guts from the radiator cap.

Basically, just remove the guts from the cap, add 2 extra reservoirs. 1 with a hose the the radiator and another with a hose to the thermostat relief screw. And then just add a “t” to those 2 hoses correct?

Yes, I've made no further modifications and have had no issues whatsoever.

Don't forget to drill a hole or two atop the large reservoirs to alleviate the pressure. Rain water is generally pretty clean so I'm not concerned if mixes with the coolant.
