We out here! The tide is dropping, so we called up our friends at California State Parks to visit their office and enjoy the natural wonders of the tide pools!
Good stuff. I live near Pismo Beach, California, and have gone tidepooling since the mid 1960's. Tidepool critters get spooked very easily, especially when you cast a shadow. I have a trick. Slowly approach your target, then bend down and lay a towel as close to the edge as possible. Slowly law down facing into the water. Now don't move. When the critters feel safe again, they will come out to eat, play, swim, and walk around. It's fun when these highly defensive creatures loosen up and enjoy life within their own private micro pool. To get a better overall picture of the flora and fauna, don't stay in one place. It's okay to play with the little crabs and snails, just be careful and gentle. Remember, this is their home, their domain. Make your visit as impact free as possible. Thanks.
Grew up in Monterey but in Georgia now. This pulls my heart strings as I played in the tide pools while growing up, miss it so much! Thanks so much for sharing this!
