There are lots of comments out here which questions why expansionism applies to India ? The underlying assumption here is that PoK and Aksai Chin were incorporated within India peacefully and with the consensus of all the stakeholders involved. Let's look at J & K conflict. J & K, back in 1947, was a Muslim majority state rules by a Hindu King - Hari Singh. As per the two nation theory, to which Nehru was also party to, J & K should have been with Pakistan. However, India managed to keep it to itself, by convincing Hari Singh, despite he disliked Nehru. We have to be contend with the fact, despite the popular wave and tide, India owns the majority of J & K. Pls. read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmir_conflict. Secondly, on the issue of Aksai Chin, India never developed any infra nor deployed any troops there to defend it besides claiming it. This was the same land that Nehru once said, "not a blade of grass grows". Such was the apathy of the Indian administration toward it until China annexed it. Also, historically Aksai Chin was part of Xinjiang, a Chinese province. It was erroneously included as part of Kashmir when the Johnson line was drawn in 1865. But it is the Chinese who have been administering the region since 1878. There are lot of scholarly material and Wikipedia articles on J & K conflict and Aksai Chin. It is one thing to make claims as "own territory" and quite another to ensure you have the deployed enough administrative and military machinery to protect and defend it.

Where do you draw the line and say "That's it, no more losing the land now." If we accept the current boundaries, then why are we losing those tiny sliver of lands. If we lose a sliver today, it will be a district or a provincee tomorrow. China has much bigger hunger for expansionism than Pakistan. They are claiming land and airspace in international waters. I have two points, which I wish you will clarify for me. 1. Expansionism principles of PRC as per my view has changed ( may be case to case basis); very gradual and systematic expansion of territories bit by bit over a very long time period ( and it is also noted that PRC always try to keep their claims afresh and alive at all fronts whatsoever). 2. Even if some nation doesn't wish to be in a dispute and wants for a settlement it may not be applicable at a larger context as it will instigate much larger claims all over that nation (from people of different ideologies) and from neighbouring nations, so I think it's better fight and keep an unwanted territory than losing much more areas.

As far as I can see the message was towards China. India's claim over PoK is legitimate and legal. The theory that the time expansionism" being over doesnt apply to India which isn expanding. India needs to get back PoK and Gilgit Baltistan in order to cut off China's expansionism into the Arabian Sea. Defending territory or retaking one's lost territory is not expansionism. Also remember, India had offered to convert the LoC into the international border but Pakistan was always insisting on the Indian side of Kashmir. So now they lose it all.

The problem with regards to statement relating to Indian’s expansion policy, it is totally absurd because of two reasons! 1) Kashmir was princely state and hari Singh legally signed it with India. 2) PoK and Aksahi Cin is part of India, it is not expansion it is disputed area which legally belongs to us! You are right that it is difficult to conquest a territory and keep it in 21st century. But have ever thought about China breaking up into multiple countries? I know it looks very remote in current scenario but once its economy starts shrinking, things can go south very rapidly.

Nice to hear your thoughts. Pakistan has great geological locations and at times you have to pay the price. Pakistan's downturn started because of the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan and still continues. It is incomprehensible of having of LOC/LAC in the 21st century. If not Pakistan, India also could not get Pakistani Kashmir/GB in seventy years while claiming to be a bigger/powerful country let alone the Aksai Chin. The realization among pragmatic Indian analysts that time has come now that China, Pakistan, and India need to sit together and sort out their border issues (and potential water resources) by some give and take is a welcome sign else this will continue for next severy years in some shape or form.

Gilgit, Baltistan and Skardu is the gift of British to Pakistan, it came down to ethnicity. Though these areas belonged to Kashmir, the people didn't like Kashmiris and didn't want them to be identified with Kashmirs, they wanted to join Pakistan. There would have been blood bath if it was integrated with India. Major William Alexander Brown who lead a coup through Operation Dhatta Khel was the reason why Gilgit Baltistan is with Pakistan, he once said "my actions appeared to possess all the elements of high treason. Yet I knew in my own mind that what I had done was right." Later he was awarded by British which proves that he acted on orders of the British. In general, all the border disputes we're facing today, is the mess created by the British because of which hundreds of lives are lost every year defending our motherland

Shekhar Sir, India, Pak, China were Nuclear Power when they fought in past as well, when India liberated Bangladesh India and Pakistan were Nuclear Powers, even during wars under Nehru's and Shastri's rule both India and Pakistan were Nuclear Power. Secondly, in all these wars over years Pakistan has lost Bangladesh, India has lost POK, India has lost Aksai Chin, India has captured Sikkim, Arunachal, SIACHEN Even during Kargil War Pakistan successfully captured Kargil which India fought and re-captured and that happened after Kargil War so your saying that because it's 21st century and India, Pak, China are Nuclear States they will have to return any captured territory is you being in WONDERLAND no captured territory has been returned without war. All three nations were Nuclear Power in 1962, 1966, 1971, 1999 etc.
