The time has finally come! I’m taking my motorhome over to Europe on LeShuttle, first stop France!
You could say I’m a seasoned veteran at living in a van when it comes to the UK, which is a posh way of saying I’ve been doing it for ages and I’ve got plenty experience when it comes to finding places to park the motorhome, finding water, places to empty my tanks and my toilet cassette BUT when it comes to Europe I’m a complete amateur!
This is my first trip over to the EU in my motorhome as well as driving on the wrong side of the road, that’s gonna be a big one when I comes to roundabouts, haha!
I can’t wait to get exploring Europe, I’ve not planned much in while I’m here because I simply want to enjoy it. I enjoy slow travel, I think that will best for me and my legs.

Having done 48 years as an international trucker retired now a few years I absolutely love France , I was there every week either delivering or passing through (transit) …The food is excellent and the Les Routier Truckers restaurants were amazing and depending which part of France we would know from regular trips the best ones to eat in , but regardless they were all good …France is an amazing country compared to say the UK or my own country Ireland , the food in the UK was appalling and I avoided eating there as much as possible , I never liked fast food joints to me it was plastic grub and 20 minutes after eating you we’re getting hungry again…Enjoy your trip and safe driving…

The biggest van culture shock in France is the way vanners are accepted and welcomed even in the smallest village.

Works both ways though. There’s a small park up near me in a small Sussex village that two van guys have been living in for years and no one cared. Since the last year or 18 months though there are loads of people who use it for one or two nights and trash it on their way to Newhaven ferry. Now it’s getting a height restriction barrier fitted in the next few months. It’s about mutual respect for me. The new van lifers have trashed it and ruined it for the other blokes

Enjoyed this vlog. Keep it up :) Massive well done on the health front. My hubby was diagnosed type 2 diabetes six years ago and started on keto and even though the diabetic nurse argued with him, six years later he still controlling his blood sugars and not requiring medication. Well done and safe travels 🚌

First time I went to France, driving on the right was OK but the first few roundabouts, going the "wrong" way did feel weird. After a couple of days they were OK. I kept doing the old chant "Ian Wright Wright Wright" especially at lunch to remember to drive on the right.

Hi Darren, long time watcher though it’s rare I comment. The shops are Auchan is pronounced ‘ow-shan’, and the other one is ‘car- four’. As for the driving close bit, welcome to Europe, just about everyone drives like that. It is a bit of a culture shock. Enjoy your time in France, we love it here.

Your first stop was at “Bergues” who became really famous for the shooting of the comedy movie “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis”. Yeah I’m quite happy to travel with a friend, it is a great laugh, i think it was easier travelling with Pete as he had his own van/place so you can both do what you want if you know what I mean. Living on you own for so long you get into a routine and I do love my own space haha

Brilliant first euro episode. It adds to it that you are feeling your way a bit. Got to be honest 'though, a tad disappointed you aren't doing it solo. Which I think we all thought you were going to do. It would of given your touring a different and more unique dimension. Two warnings for newbies to French supermarkets 1) take your own bags. The checkout won't have any, 2) Closing time is when they pull the shutters down. Don't rock up to the cashier 5 mins before closing with a full trolley and expect to be served!

I have no idea either but Halfords by the Dartford Tunnel sell Europe kits. It turns out each country has its own rules but Halfords have a little cardboard chart of which countries need which things. The AA & RAC have advice too.

Really the max for a type 2 is 48 or less. The higher the level the more sugar is sticking to your red blood cells which is very bad for your long term health. Keep doing what you are doing and get those levels down below 48 as soon as you can and maintain it.

Great question. Yes it does - even when coming back in the UK (with some big limitations). Make sure your phone or device has Roaming enabled and you'll get "SIM updates" which knock you offline for a short while followed by a welcome text from the new local provider as you cross borders.

@@barrieathey1822 Daz put a Free SIM in his Netgear Nighthawk. Your router will need to be *unlocked* and have the Roaming setting turned on in the router's web interface - it's very likely to be turned off by default.

Wait till you drive in Italy and drivers there are homicide some will try to push you off the road or in Greece the drivers are suicidal will overtake on a bend. On german Autobahn they go pass very fast. I just keep my distant in front 2 seconds minimum or more in bad weather.

Problems with 3....should have bought a Labara, smarty, iD mobile or one of the others that don't charge. I also hope you didn't fuel up in England before you left, diesel in France is cheaper, Spain even more so The Hypermarkets are amazing. French road surfaces are much better than the UK - apart from all the roundabouts- you'll have a great time
