Ringo has the sole writing credit for this song, but it's a poorly kept secret that George Harrison actually wrote it and kindly gave it to Ringo for him to take full writing credit in order to help him establish independence from his former bandmates.

No matter how much the other 3 fell out, no one ever fell out with Ringo. He was beloved. As a result, he would always get by with a little help from his friends. And why not? Growing up in Nashville, I wasn’t a great country music fan. Saw it as an “export,” but I have to say, sadly, this sounds like any other guy trying to get a country contract. Except the last song “Nashville Sound” Was a real country blues banger. Sounded like Chet Atkins and Vince Gill playing off each other down in printers alley. In 1974, when John Lennon was asked if he regretted the breakup of The Beatles, he said that if The Beatles hadn't broken up, the great music all 4 of them put out individually would never have happened!.....this song fits that format perfectly!
@patrickhenry4675
@patrickhenry4675 Год назад
It was not always easy to predict when John was being serious and when he was going for a dig. I think he eventually got over the competition aspect of songwriting, him and Paul for example. He was eventually able to say that George wrote maybe the best post Beatles album. He told an interviewer he was never worried about Paul post Beatles. Paul was going to be alright. He said he was most happy for Ringo's success, that he had found a good niche, and that happiness seemed very sincere. Ringo was able to keep all the Beatles close. If John had lived it would have been Ringo that would have had a chance to reunite the Beatles. When they semi-reunited in the Studio to finish the John demo, Free as a Bird, you may notice Paul was very aware of George's feelings and went along with George's desire to have his friend Jeff Lynn from ELO produce. When George vetoed another song they tried to finish as not good enough the rest of the Beatles went along and canned it. John stated that he and Paul kind of kept George down and treated him badly at times and you could hear some regret there about that treatment. He also eventually praised the songwriting skills George eventually developed. It is hard to remember George was still only 27 when the Beatles breakup. I was glad to see both of them recognized George's growth.

Perhaps Ringo's greatest post- Beatles contribution to music has been his All-Star band, which has been touring with different members since 1989. The very long list of musicians who have participated in this venture reads like a list of Who's Who in popular music from the last several decades.

Yes, he is a very creative drummer who contributed quite unique drum parts for dozens of classic Beatle's songs, but perhaps his greatest gift is being a catalyst who can bring together talent. How long would the Beatles have lasted without Ringo? Who else could assemble his all-star bands? Ringo is laid back, fun to be around, a very competent professional musician without being a prima donna, and someone who has made sensible business decisions in a difficult industry. He clearly has the gift of helping to bring out the best of people around him. That is a rare combination.

They were great. Ringo seems like to completely lack ego. That came across in the "Get Back" documentary, too. Maybe that's why so many people consistently under-rate his talent - though not drummers. You never hear great drummers knock Ringo, though you often hear them demur politely about Charlie Watts. You hear a lot of "Charlie was a wonderful guy - and a really sharp dresser.")

There's a reason why George's guitar sounds like the one in the bridge of "Badge" ... both songs feature a guitar fed through a Leslie speaker. The Leslie-fied guitar was a staple of rock music in the late '60s and the '70s, and you'd still hear it used here and there even in the '80s and '90s. It's a sound very closely identified with the Beatles (especially George Harrison), because the Fab Four tinkered with the device so extensively, starting with the *Revolver* album.

@gregsager2062 Год назад
"It made me listen harder to the tone, and I was like, dang, that's a really cool tone!" That, Alex, is a guitar fed through a Leslie speaker. A Leslie is an amplifier/speaker that modifies sound by use of an internal rotating chamber baffle that alters not only amplitude (creating tremolo) but also frequency (altering pitch and thereby creating overtones). It was originally designed by an engineer named Don Leslie to enable Hammond organs to simulate pipe organs, but in the '60s certain musicians, producers, and engineers (notably Brian Wilson and Lou Adler in L.A., and Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick at EMI Studio on Abbey Road in London) began tinkering with Leslies in order to use them with non-organ sound sources, most notably vocals (that's John Lennon singing through a Leslie in "Tomorrow Never Knows" on *Revolver* ) and guitar. George Harrison turned a guitar fed through a Leslie into his signature sound for awhile, and it's George you hear playing both the rhythm and the lead in "It Don't Come Easy" (which he co-wrote with Ringo, although George wasn't credited, and produced). The Leslie guitar sound became pretty ubiquitous through the late '60s and into the '70s; tons of songs that you've heard on your reaction channel already have featured Leslie-fied guitars. The sound was so popular that pedal manufacturers immediately set to designing pedals specifically meant to emulate a Leslie; Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, and Robin Trower used such pedals. Nowadays the technology is really close to capturing the sound, to the point where you can barely catch the difference between a pedal and a Leslie, although nothing really quite captures the essence of an old tube-driven Leslie 122. It's the coolest and most glorious guitar tone in rock'n'roll history, if you ask me. A Leslie makes even a straightforward pop song like "It Don't Come Easy", Cream's "Badge", or Badfinger's "No Matter What" sound grand and important and a little bit mysterious. It really is the electric guitar's answer to the pipe organ.

And they hardly ever let him sing when he was with "The Beatles." Ringo actually did quite well for himself as a solo artist. Most people felt sorry for him, and thought he'd be forgotten. Boy was everyone wrong. Thanks guys

It's probably my favorite Ringo solo song. But it was written by George, who also did that great guitar solo. They occasionally played on each other's solo stuff, especially in the 70's, but even much later, Ringo has occasionally played on some of Paul's stuff.
@rjaraneta913
@rjaraneta913 Год назад
Ringo wrote the basic song; George helped him to finish, shape it and produce the recording. Ringo said as much in publicly acknowledging George helped him with it. George sang lead as a guide vocal on the basic track. The basic track was then used without George's voice for Ringo to sing over and overdubs of horns and other instruments were added. George's voice was kept at the intro.

@@dimedraweriv258 Yes, it has George's DNA all over it, because he produced and arranged it and played guitar on it using his distinctive Leslie sound ... but that doesn't change the fact that Ringo and George co-wrote it.

Great song, MUCH too short! Ringo not only leaned on George Harrison creatively but he knew how to surround himself with top musicians, incl George plus Gary Wright and Klaus Voormann.

He didn't lean on George, George wrote this and co-wrote Photograph with Ringo. But I'm pretty sure it's mostly George's tune.

Yes I remember Art. Whenever I hear some velvet morning when I'm straight I'm gonna open up your gate and maybe tell you about Phaedra Or ride my seesaw by the moody blues. Art Bell is the King of Late Night when you talk about radio. Very interesting and sometimes nutty guests. RIP MR. BELL he kept me awake when I had to work the graveyard shift.

For instance, at least in the early ex-Beatle days, if it's not a Paul song, then nine times out of ten the guy playing bass is Klaus Voormann. Funny thing is, if you were to ask Andy & Alex, the Klaus Voormann bass part that they like best isn't on an ex-Beatle's song; it's his work on Carly Simon's "You're So Vain", complete with that loping bass riff intro.
