I agree almost entirely with that except I would say 'For them forgiveness is about moving on/letting go' because in the case of this episode it seemed more that by forgiving Teal'c he was able to move past/let go of the hatred he had been holding onto for so long

The whole "forgiving yourself" thing seems so cliche and tropey, but it is 100% accurate. When you experience TRUE guilt, where something awful happened and you genuinely blame yourself for it, it is almost impossible to forgive yourself.

I figure Teal'c used to wear that armor, so knew the weaknesses and gaps in it. Plus the armor was designed to terrify and protect against primitive ranged weapons, it was expected that a Jaffa would be strong and well-trained enough to defend themself from a normal human.

If I was forced to choose between Teal'c and Ronon who was the bravest, this scene alone would make me choose Teal'c hands down. Both he and Ronon were given a chance to atone for their past deeds (Ronon in Sateda when he went back to a village he first went to as a runner, and was subsequently culled). He was willing to kill himself right there for Shepherd and Teyla, but you could see that he had some fear in his eyes. Teal'c was here, ready to die with a smoothness and calmness that hell you'd have to be on drugs to possess, and he even cried when he was forgiven. That was a very notable detail

It was enough to mitigate M16 rounds in episode 1 to a degree significant enough that O'Neil had them switch to P90s. But almost certainly you are right, and the armor is optimized for decorative purposes first and practical purposes second. Doubtless Teal'c knew exactly what its weak spots were and exploited them. The goa'uld's obsession with appearing strong was always their achilles' heel.
@knghtbrd
@knghtbrd 2 года назад
@@quillquickcard8824 If you know something about those two rounds and the guns they come out of … The M16 would likely be chambered in 5.56 NATO, the P90 will use FN 5.7. The 5.7 has far less range and stopping power, but less recoil and more accuracy. The P90, though, is a lot more comfortable to hold/use and while the AR platform uses 30 round magazines, those P90s use 50 round mags. I just tell myself that SG teams are using standard FMJ copper-clad lead in the M16, but SG teams switched to the moe close-quarters optimized P90 with specific steel-core armor-piercing rounds. Most of the planets the Goa'uld rule over are fairly primitive, armed with medieval-level tech, or often worse (just look at the slingshot-crossbows the guys here have). That Metal armour will probably do pretty good service in turning away slings and arrows. As O'Neil points out when comparing the staff weapon to the P90, the Jaffa are equipped primarily for domination and intimidation to keep the peasants in line, not for fighting a war against an enemy with its own industrial base, professional military, etc. The Jaffa are tools for oppression first, fighting limited conflicts against the comparably equipped Jaffa of other System Lords second, and a force for engaging external threats last.
@brucetheloon
@brucetheloon 2 года назад
@Nero X The question still stands though, the Tau'ri gate had no DHD, only a human designed dialing computer. The system lords never demonstrated the ability to dial a gate without a DHD, and it does stretch the boundaries of credulity that the Jaffa could have figured out the passwords to the dialing computer and how to operate the program as well. Logic dictates that Apophis and his Jaffa would have been stuck on the base, if not in the embarkation room, while many, many P-90's were being positioned.

@NamelessBody
@NamelessBody 7 лет назад
I argue against that point. It's clearlly maille and plate, both of which historically existed and provided excellent protection. I don't see how the armor which visibly covers almost the entire body and is made of metal and arranged in a way it has been in ancient and medieval times (with some liberties of course) would be any less effective against blades than it really was. We do not see the details of the stab though. Chances are Teal'c does know a weak spot. Although that's a really bad place for a Jaffa to have a weak spot in their armor... But that's the only design flaw imaginable here. Since we do not see the attack, instead of attacking the stomach as is implied, he might be cutting at the wrist, which isn't nearly as protected and also quite lethal, although it would take some time to bleed out, what with the symbiote and all.
@ServantOfOdin
@ServantOfOdin 7 лет назад
Uh, even if it's maille and plate, it's of a non-earth material. See the many times Teal'c or some one else drops their front plate to the floor and it clangs like some super dense heavy stuff and not remotly like metal. We do know that the "maille"-looking area is prone to stab-attacks over and over throughout the series, where the blade is pushed in sideways, around the area where kidney/liver is.

@KalashVodka175
@KalashVodka175 2 года назад
I think Jaffa armour is more about intimidation, tradition and decorum than anything else. Tho they are actually fairly utilitarian when most of the humans and primitive species outside of a few developped worlds like earth only have at best medieval technology to fight with. A sword or a spear could do nothing to pierce the kind of plate the jaffa wears, ensuring rebellions are unlikely to succeed even when the rebels vastly outnumber the jaffas.

I would think the snake heads have wireless linking to the Weapon, with additional target tracking and target sensors, and weapon status., That said, 1:58 Christopher Judge demonstrates Teal'cs True Warrior spirit - He accepts the wrongs he's committed, accepts the lives he has taken, no exuses, no ' just following orders ' mumbled apology. The Warrior fights, the Warrior kills, the warrior accepts responsibility, without reservation. Technology is not the weapon, it is the Soul of the Warrior that is the Weapon. We have a military court system that pretty much handles trying our soldiers for crimes in general and unlike the public system its a far faster process thanks to Judaical Advocate Generals (J.A.G) as well as other factors. So if they do something like shoot unarmed children then they are getting a visit from the MP's, followed by a Military trial and then ending with a long stay at Levingworth.

The American Soldier who perpetrated the Kandahar Massacre was arrested and punished for killing civilians in 2012. It wasn't a war crimes trial but the punishment was as high as it can be. The US does punish those who do this, it just doesn't do them as war crimes, but as crimes against the UCMJ.

Prime can mean the best quality (such as prime steak) so first prime would imply the number 1 of all the best selected Jaffa.

I barely remember this episode, hell I remember those wonky crossbows those people had more than what happened in the plot.
