After owning my Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus since November of 2019, I am thinking about selling it..

Question, if someone could buy a new tesla for $36,500 why would they buy your used Tesla for $38-39k? Especially since the new refresh.

@@JayWuOfficial I hope I’m not coming off as rude, but what person with a functioning brain between their ears would pay more money for a used outdated Tesla with several Thousands of miles and free curb rash on it? I recommend you watch Rich Rebuilds video called “why nobody wants your used Tesla model 3”. He goes into why the used Tesla market is just super whack. From what I’ve seen, most people end up having to significantly drop the price just to get somebody to buy it because the price of used is basically identical to new. Even if you sell it for like 2k-3k less than a new one, I still don’t see why somebody wouldn’t just spend that little bit extra money and get the brand new refreshed model.

@@RTS_2008 you're coming off as an asshole. Maybe there are people that don't like the new center console on the refresh models and probably don't want to wait for a new tesla either.

@@josephyabut7829 it’s an honest question tho is it not? Why would somebody want to pay nearly the same amount of money for a used car that has less features when they can just spend the same amount on a brand new vehicle with more stuff in it? The new model 3’s have the heat pump (which is a pretty big addition), power lift trunk, double panned glass, as well as the new center console. Even if people aren’t a huge fan on the new center console I still don’t believe that it would be THAT much of a dealbreaker where they would rather give up all those other additions and get a used one for the same price with less stuff.

Paying off your car loan will let you qualify for a bigger loan as it reduces your debt load, but it doesn't get you a lower interest rate. Selling and repurchasing the same car would likely cost you $3000-$5000 due to taxes, depreciation, and transaction costs. If you really wanted to, you could instead use that same $3000-$5000 to pay upfront points on your loan which would get you a lower interest rate. Good luck.

Hey Jay! I recently purchased a brand new condo here in the Bay Area and it’s definitely a major milestone. If you sell your Model 3, this may qualify you for a higher loan amount since your debt-to-income (DTI) ratio will change. For competitive interest rates, your credit score, complete credit history and current market rates will determine this. If there are seller incentives or you have extra cash, you can pay down the rate (however this may not save you much in the long run). I’ve been financing my car since April 2019 and felt confident applying for a home loan. Overall, lenders are just assessing your financial risk dependent on your situation. Let me know if you’d like to discuss more, I’m a first-time homebuyer and this experience is relevant and fresh!

@@JayWuOfficial Thank you, I appreciate that!! Becoming a homeowner before 30 always seemed like a distant dream, but life’s greatest moments happen unexpectedly. If you sell your Model 3 just before applying for a loan, it’ll be important to inform the lender that you’ve done so since your credit report will still reflect the outstanding balance. I would do whatever it takes to lower the interest rate of my loan. Long term it will save you a ton of money. Next, the car. Since the prices for your Model 3 are still good, I would sell it as fast as possible. Besides, you will love the Model 3 Refresh. For the "survival time", it depends on the costs and time saving: 1. I would search for a used Toyota or Honda. 2. Or just using Uber and Lyft. No worries, I'm sticking with ya. Wish you all the best, Jay!

doubt you will get 38-39k for your sr+. Tesla used ones are selling for that price or more used only because they are including FSD to inflate the value.

Sell it! I think SRs are doing really well for selling privately ($35k?) , and you can probably get a lower interest rate right then what you might have got on your current Tesla

Only issue you might run into is selling your car at the prices you've seen, there's high demand for them right now but most people just buy new because it's a similar price and they get a new car. Not really, paying revolving loan doesn’t hurt your credit score. Besides a vehicle is not considering a value asset.

My guy I appreciate your vids but with all due respect, I just ordered a TM3 standard range plus and there is absolutely no way you’re only gonna pay 1000 out of pocket. Just trust bro lol. Also paying off the car will have an asset to your name so the whole selling it for the reason you mentioned doesn’t make sense. All love tho man and good luck.

Hi Jay, First off, congrats on getting a condo! Secondly, your reasoning makes perfect sense. It's a no-brainer to sell right now and get a better rate, and then get a brand new 2021 which has a better range and will only cost you ~$1K more as you said. This extra $1K is more than offset by getting a better finance rate for your first condo! Good luck, man. Keep us posted.

If you’re going to pay it off soon and there’s no operating costs, why sell it? You’ll need something for transportation so why not just use the thing that you’ve already paid off and isn’t costing you extra money? You’d be selling it, going through that pain in the ass to just to go back and get right back where you’re at? You’re not going to sell it at 38-39 if that’s what a new one goes for, why would someone pay you 38 if you can get a new one for a thousand more? They’ll get an extra 15 months of warranty for a thousand bucks? No brainer. You’ve worked yourself into a shoot here. Pay off the car. You’ll still have this car as an asset it just won’t be liquid.

I just bought a dual motor model 3, there were deals out there but I passed because most of the used ones were more expensive than the new ones when factoring in tax benefits. I’m sure many others make the same calculation and having just sold a civic I can tell you it’s a pain in the ass selling a car. If you were upgrading your car, sure that makes sense but just to get the same thing you had before? Eh...hard sell imo. Decision’s yours, obviously, but if you like the car and it’s about to cost you nothing...why not just keep it?
