I was painfully shy in my teens, in catholic school , I hated it, best day of my life was the day I left, didn’t come out until I was 23 in 1990. Happily married now to my husband, been together 20 years. Things have changed for the better 😎👍🏻 but the bigots are still out there. Great show guys well done xx

I absolutely loved everything about It's A Sin, it made me laugh, it made me cry. I was a teenager in the 80's, I had the best (and worst) time of my life, and if I could, I'd go back in a heartbeat. There's one thing that really puzzled me though with regards to the music - there (to the best of my knowledge) has only ever been one song that made the charts, about the people who lost someone to HIV/Aids, and that song is "For A Friend" by the Communards, the words to the song captured exactly how I felt when I lost another friend, and I was really surprised it wasn't included. What do you think ?

As straight ally parents, one way we are trying to make things better is to raise our kids (who are too young to know their sexuality) in the atmosphere of knowing that they can be whoever they are, and love whoever they love, and if they find they are gay when they get older they will be just as loved as if they are straight. If they grow up and find they are gay, they will be comfortable with that (we hope), and if they grow up to be straight they will be better neighbours to the gay people in their community.

the series is superb...I only asked myself where lesbians were at the time...Of course they were there by the thousands so theres no story about them? I know Aids didnt affect women at first so largely as it did with young men...but nonetheless I felt lesbians' absence in the show a bit funny. Women appear only to rapresent real mothers or subsitute mothers (Jill). Just a thought. I really loved the series.

They were alive and struggling, founding a new philosophical thinking about difference in feminism, for instance. I grew up very open about my homosexuality at a Catholic boys' school in Hong Kong, dating also a classmate at the time. I was never bullied. My boyfriend at the time was mocked from time to time (he was a little weird being the sexuality thing) but I dealt with those people usually. One time we were just kissing and touching each other in religious studies class and the teacher only asked me not to be so high profile and that's it.

My husband raved about this show, he said he has never cried so much in his life. I watched it and actually found it quite boring but i see comments everywhere mirroring my husbands and i feel like im missing something. I teared up twice: once when the welsh lad says to his mum that hes not dirty and then at the end when the girls parents show up and she bursts into tears. Whats wrong with me?!

poman poman ...not saying its true but perhaps your husband had a gay/bi experience before you came into his life or knew personally or had a work colleague who died of AIDS.......or perhaps he cried as hes just a lovely sensitive soul that has kept his feelings to himself most of the time but on this occasion let them out.

@@geoffdundee were both gay. Maybe i should have lead with that but i dont generally think you have to be gay or have a peronal experience connected with a story to have an emotional reaction. I tend to be a cryer when watching shows/movies thats why i couldnt understand why i was so underwhelmed in contrast to the majority being so moved. Also, the show did actually bring up a coversation about how neither of us have ever known anyone who was hiv positive (openly) and how different it has been perceived by our generation (born mid 80s)

Its a Sin is very good. Much has been made of the gays in it but to be frank Keeley Hawes acted everyone off the screen. Personally speaking, I loathed the Richie character. I didnt view him as the wounded bird that the Jill character described in that scene with his mother on the pier. He was more just your ten a penny, narcissistic hedonistic cruel type u cud see throwing spite around and putting it about in any bar or club every weekend. And no doubt they will all be doing that La thing now. And no am not saying the character deserved his fate. Nobody absolutely nobody does or ever did. I just didnt care about the character to be honest unlike the much more sympathetic characters who died earlier. I thought overall it was actually Jil's story not his. But it was very well written and generally well-acted (except for the hammy Richie performance.)
