Taste for the game itself aside, i find your approach of player counts matter a bit odd. Sure, 5 is higher than 2 but very often, the wider players count games have an actual soft spot at 3/4 or 4/5 players. Lesser count affects the balance/mechanics and more can make the game drag on. IAW World itself is widely recommanded at 4 (while still ok at two). But when you're looking for a two player game is IAW World really better suited than IAW Kingdom ? For me, classic drafting (in IAW World like in 7 Wonders) largely loose it's interest in 2 players games : you loose the "surprises" (you've seen all the cards of the phase on the second turn) and have no real struggle to get the cards. In Kingdoms like in 7 Wonders Duels, the different mechanics for the drafting parts bring back the surprise (unknown cards) and introduce struggle to get/keep the ones you want. And i'd say those two points matter a lot. Enough to compensate the flexibility of player count ? I don't know, but I know the "flexible player count" is not a "systematic" criteria. Just like a 5 doors car is not better than a 3 doors car by the simple virtue of having 2 more doors. Depends on what you're looking for, just like poeple looking for 2 players games probably don't care about a "higher player count" criteria.
The wonderful world expansion took it from a 1-5 player to a 1-7 player game, which is amazing and makes it 1 of the just common games I play with my group of 6. Why is it so hard to find a 6 player game that isn't a party game. Happy for any recommendations!!!
I like Wonderful World a lot but disliked the ‘bluffing I cut you choose’ in Wonderful Kingdom. I generally don’t like much negative interactions in games and this definitely made me cringe on my turns. Wonderful World at 2p works fine and drafting is so much more fun at all counts for me.
Hm good thing I saw this review. I thought this would be right up my alley since 98 percent of the time my game group is my girlfriend. Almost bought this but now I guess I'll pass.
This one was a huge letdown for me. The randomness of the bluffing and I split you choose just made building an engine a random mess. Sold it after 3 2 player games and a solo play. Wonderful World is still a keeper though.
