For those of lesser intelligence (ie. non-readers of the books), the movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets makes sure that you "get" the key character in the plot line...
(Tom x Hagrid) Tom: Evening Hagrid. Tom: I'm going to have to turn you in Hagrid. Tom: I don't think you meant it to kill anyone Hagrid. Hagrid: You can't. You don't understand. Tom: The dead girl's parents will be here tomorrow, the least Hogwarts can do is make sure the thing that killed their daughter is slaughter, Hagrid. Hagrid: It wasn't him, Aragog never killed no one, never. Tom: Monsters don't make good pets Hagrid. Tom: Now stand aside Hagrid. Hagrid: No! Tom: Stand aside Hagrid! Hagrid: NO! Tom: *aims wand at chest* Cistem, Aperio! *with a quick flash of light, the chest opens, releasing the spider* Spider: *tries to escape, exiting the room and heading down the hall* Tom: *aims his wand quickly at the spider as its heading down the hall* Arania, Exumai! *a stream of light fires from Tom's wand, barely missing the spider* Spider: *makes a quick right turn, exiting the hall, successfully escaping* Hagrid: ARAGOG! ARAGOG! *preparing to go after the spider* Tom: *steps in front of Hagrid, blocking Hagrid from leaving the room* I can't let you go Hagrid. Tom: I'll have your wand for this Hagrid. Tom: You'll be expelled. Harry Potter: *reaches out to Hagrid* HAGRID! Harry Potter: *being pulled back to reality* HAAAAAGRIIIIIIDDDDD!!!!!! *amazing soundtrack* *FLASH OF LIGHT* *EVERYTHING GOES TO BLACK*
I think Hagrid having Aarog was coincidental for Tom. Yes he framed Hagrid but didn't plan it. After Dumbledore despite being suspicious let him on his way Tom realised he put himself in a corner when he asked if Hogwarts would close in a hesitant voice. So when he recollected Hagrid having Araog he decided to act quickly to avoid being expelled.
...ya know, Myrtle coulda been a good sport and...oh I dunno... CLEAR HAGRID'S GOOD NAME! For merlin's sake, I think they coulda asked if it was a SPIDER after she died!
@Shifterred LOL, I was just in Florida traveling, and I was dead tired when this movie came on tv. At this point, I was nearly in hysterics watching this scene just because he was saying 'Hagrid' so many times. As soon as I got home, I knew I just had to put this scene up and exaggerate it! (Not that it really needs it!)
Something sad I realized about Moaning Myrtle; After Hogwarts gave Myrtle's parents the body the Ministry likely wiped their memory of what happened to secure the status ofd secrecy.
The guy is blaming Aragog but it wasn't Aragog the one who killed the girl, it's the Basilisk the creature from the final battle, like he said in the time when Potter and Ron come to his lair.
Tom Riddle said Hagrid only 5 times in the full (unedited) scene, so cut the hyperboly. You're not smarter just because you read the books (I'm saying that as someone who's read CoS).
Hagrid needs privacy and Tom Riddle was up in front. Nicholas Flammel, what's between Proffessor Dumbledore Richard Harris and Nicolas Flammel, Hagrid tells all 3 Harry, Ron and Hermione. Neville Longbottom tried to stop them. and Draco Malfoy had nothing to do with private matters. Macgonnall found out rather than Snape. no more sneaking around or detours or obessions with Draco or Cedric.
