The Harry Potter films are notorious for cutting things that were explained in the novels…but some of these FEEL like they were included because of common knowledge.
Yeah. But that's not the plot point is it? If you go by CoS, you think Tom Riddle senior is just a muggle who had a child with a witch and both his parents are dead. The reader as well as Harry feel there is a thread of similarity between the both Harry and Tom's stories. The real twisted parts of what happened to Tom was completely cut off.
Harry's conversation with Krum. It's a small part, but I love how Harry has someone to relate to, who understands a little of what it's like to be unwantingly famous
I hope you read this comment because I'm truly mad. We know about the black family, Weasley family, malfoy family, and even some of the lovegood family. Yet not a single thing about Hermiones family. All we know is that she's the only witch in the family but for Wizarding blood to be passed down it has to be in the bloodline already
@@billiehennessee592 nowhere does it say that. It was a hypothesis put forth by the new racist government under voldemort. It is completely possible for a person to be magical without any magical blood in them.
After reading the books, I could not believe that they skipped things like Dumbledore's funeral or the fact that Voldemort is directly related to Salazar Slytherin. And will never forgive them for skipping the World Cup in movie four. The books are definitely worth a read.
@@ragdethecrimsonchrist8950 "Let the match begin!" *Releases the snitch* And... we're in the Wesley tent. Yes, they go to the World Cup, and even show the stadium and the teams. But the game itself is skipped over.
I have a few. The fact that we never find out how Fred and George get their money for a joke shop; the unnecessary burning down of the burrow in half-bloom prince; the cutting out of the dialogue at the end of deathly hollows between Voldermort and Harry that perfectly sums up why Voldermort is about to die; we never find out about Rita skeeter being an animatics or get the interview portion she does with Harry in order of the phoenix; I could go on for a while.
The biggest plothole is that in OotP Harry gets a mirror to communicate with Sirius that breaks but he keeps a piece of it and later in Deathly Hallows realizes that he can communicate with Dumbledore's brother with it, leading to Harry and Co going to him for help. In the movies the mirror isn't introduced in OoTP and just inexplicably appears in Deathly Hallows. No explanation for what it is, what it does, where it came from, or how it got broken.
They literally don’t explain the Marauders in PoA! Harry’s patronus takes the shape of a deer (this one time ever) and there’s just no explanation for that. Movie watchers don’t know that James was an animagus that could turn into a stag. There’s no explanation for how/why Lupin clearly understood how the map worked.
Not to mention in 5th one when harry says to snape "they have padfoot in the place it's kept" Never really explained that padfoot was Sirius. Book people knew what was going on. My dad who never read them goes "who's padfoot?"
I cant believe they left Winky (the other house elf, who was framed for casting a dark mark with her master's wand during a quiddich game) out of the movies too, along with the entire S.P.E.W. sub-plot. It was such a fun part of the books, and she was such a wild little side character.
I'm still furious that in the battle of Hogwarts they didn't show that in the second half of the fight after Harry faked his death that all of the house elves, all of the centaurs from the forest, and all of the residents of hogsmeade rushed in because they believed Harry had died. The death eaters were overwhelmed and that's why a lot of them gave up and left. I wish that they also showed that Voldemort's spells didn't cause pain to anyone because Harry cast the same layer of protection over the people there that his mom gave him by sacrificing himself willingly. Also, they should've shown the main characters who died as they died and lost the fight. That would've been more impactful than just seeing their dead bodies. But suuuure let's all add a bridge blowing up that's not in the books. That's a good substitute
Also, I hate how in the movies they keep showing spells connecting like Voldemort's and Harry's did in the graveyard and at the final battle. If everyone does that then it's not special and unique. I also hate that people didn't watch Voldemort's and Harry's battle. I hate that he got thanosed. Voldemort's greatest fear was death so its the ultimate punishment that he leaves behind a corpse. If he evaporates then people will speculate whether or not he really died or if he'll come back one day. They created plot holes for no reason.
All I know is is Ron is supposed to be such a stronger presence in the books as opposed to the movies and I think they gave a lot of his good moments to Hermione.
They also took a lot of Hermione's good moments away. We dont get her: -solving snape's potions riddle in movie 1 -prepping Hagrid for Buckbeaks case ALONE while taking extra classes & working herself to tears. All while figuring out lupins secret immediately - her staying up all night teaching Harry accio so he'll survive the dragon. ALONE AGAIN - capturing rita skeeter - blackmailing Skeeter into telling Harry's side of the story in book 5 FOR FREE - she jinxed the page everyone signed to join the DA so they'd know who the snitch was - she created magical coins to hide the DA meetings - she found out Dobby was working at hogwarts - she figured out how Snape was the half-blood prince - SHE CAN READ RUNES - she had the sense to hide Phineas Nigellus' frame at #12 Literally keeping Harry alive since '92😅
There's an interview where the director actively said that he likes Hermione better and wanted to play her up. So we get dumb Ron, and we get the tropey "she's smart so she has all the answers." In Hermione.
I can't believe how many people completely gloss over the fact that Harry Potter, the titular magical wizard boy doesn't cast *ONE SINGLE SPELL* throughout the *entire* first movie
If only because the movie alluded to it in Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone i would have really liked to see the potion riddle challenge Snape put in to Defend the Stone.
The Dumbledore/Grindelwald relationship is a big one, plus Ariana's death. It's how Albus becomes cursed by the ring, after all, which says so much about him. Even a century later, his grief still overwhelms him into doing something incredibly foolish, but still relatable. I understand why it's not in the films, but hot diggity, those moments where Dumbledore is humanised are rare and precious.
Why there were so few casualties in the final battle of the last book. The reason in the book is because Harry sacrificed himself out of love and because of that all the good People are protected from evil. In the book this is so beautiful because Harry walks through the battle with the invisibility cloak and sees everything. After which he and Voldemord duel in the middle of the hall where everyone can see him. I think it's such a shame that that scene wasn't used for the films.
The missing personality of Hedwig. She had such a personality, so when we see her protect Harry in Deathly Hallows Part 1 it makes no sense, but if you read the books you know how much of a relationship she and Harry have. Also, Dobby being a free elf with all of his crazy added on pieces of clothing. Or that they sit in the minister of magics box and NOT the nose bleeds at the quidditch world cup. I could literally go on for DAYS over what's not in the movies but are huge from the books.
As someone who hasn't read the books, I'd just like to point out that Hedwig protecting Harry 100% made sense, in my opinion. Although I wish we did get to see MORE or her personality and their bond. That being said, I also know her death was a representation of Harry growing up and losing his child like innocence . At least that's how I interpret it. ❤
@@beelee88 in the grander scheme of things, yes it makes sense for the story telling. What I am meaning is why she chose to save Harry. In the films because of the lack of personality and bonding shown, you don't really get that she adores Harry and loves him SO MUCH that she is willing to give her life for him. That's what I meant by doesn't make sense. It's sad how forgotten in the films she is, because in the books she has quite the personality.
Harry's aunt knows about the wizard prison she said she heard that aweful boy telling her about it - to bad she didn't mention the boy's name because it wasn't Harry's father that was talking to her it was Snape
In Prisoner of Azkaban, the movie doesnt take 5 seconds to explain that Lupin, Peter, Sirius and James are Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs and that they wrote the map and that 3 of them were illegal animagi, which also explains the significance of Harry's patronus. We are expected to guess all of that from the fact that Lupin knows its a map, Sirius being the Grim and Scabber becoming Peter, when it would have taken 10 seconds to clear all of that up. I loved the Shrieking Shack sequence in the book, loved the chapters and chapters of back story (really fitting for a 3rd installment as they say in Scream 3). But in the movie, it was so rushed and ruined it.
Dobby. He's in 5 of the books but only 2 of the movies. I remember watching DHpart1 & wondering why Dobby's death hit so hard till I went back & read how present he was in Harry's life. - in the 4th book is Dobby who gives Harry the gillyweed He also visits then a lot bc Hermione leaves clothes out hoping to free some elves but, Dobby looooves clothes -in the 5th, Dobby suggests the room of requirement for the DA & he's the one who warns that umbridge knows -6th, Harry has Dobby & Kreature tail Malfoy which is how he figured out Malfoy's been using the RoR to repair something
Weasley is our king! I want more quidditch but realistically I want them to at least put in slytherin's attempt to make fun of Ron, And it's eventual reversal.
I had this exact conversation like 3 days ago after watching the movies i realized i hallucinated some parts that aren’t there. Like i remember a centaur teaching harry divination. Thats only in the book tho. I also remember watching fawkes save dumbledor
I think the biggest loss is Harry and Ginny's relationship throughout the series. The 'Half-Blood Prince' film just makes it seem like they randomly came together, when in reality they grew close to one another over time. The films also leave out just how powerful and dependable Ginny really was. She was, perhaps intentionally, a new Lily.
Gregorovitch just gets name-dropped on DH part 1 and we’re supposed to know who he is. They skipped the wand ceremony on GoF where Olivander explained who he is (and that Fleur is 1/4 Veela explaining why Ron starts drooling around her), which is very important to the whole story of the Elder Wand.
They changed something that ruined the whole plot of all the movies. In the movie Snape begs Dumbledore to hide all three potters. In the book Snape begs Voldemort to spare just Lily while killing Harry and James. Voldemort offering Lily her life and her refusing is the reason that Harry was protected. Following that though Movie Voldemort never would have offered Lily that choice, she was a mud blood, he would have killed her without thought, and if he intended to kill all three of them, it would have probably just worked.
The Werewolf Prank/Incident and Sirius & Remus' relationship during the 1st Wizarding War. The Werewolf Prank LITERALLY explains why Severus knows Remus is a werewolf in the first place. I also think a lot of fans (I used to be one of them) were completely unaware of how Sirius and Remus acted towards each other before the events of The Prizoner of Azkaban. They were ONTO EACH OTHER IN THE 1ST WIZARDING WAR...THEY THOUGHT THE OTHER WAS A SPY...which now makes me wonder why/how they patched up by the end of the 3rd movie/book. I gotta do more research 😭
For me it’s the 2 way mirror. In the books, Sirius gives Harry a mirror that he can talk to Sirius through as he has the other one. When Sirius dies he breaks the mirror in his trunk. A year later mundungus ransacks Sirius’s house and sells all his stuff including the mirror, we see him sell items to “the owner of the hogs head” which we later discover is actually dumbledores brother. And in the last book Harry finds the shard in his trunk and aberforth, dumbledore’s brother, helps Harry by using the mirror. THE MOVIE ON THE OTHER HAND DOESNT HAVE ANY OF THIS!!! Sirius didn’t give Harry a mirror, Harry didn’t break a mirror, we never see mundungus sell anything to aberforth, the very first time we see the mirror is in deathly hallows when it is already broken and what makes things even more confusing is that when Harry gets to the hogs head in part 2, the shard fits perfectly into the mirror that aberforth has. Why on earth would he have a piece of a mirror that doesn’t belong to Harry and belongs to a man he has never met?!!!!
I hate how they just skipped the whole bringing Norbert up to the tower but and just had everyone get detention because they were randomly wandering around at night.
In the Shrieking Shack during PoA, Snape enters the room where The Golden Trio and the Marauders are conversing by using the Invisibility Cloak. He heard *_EVERYTHING_* that was said in that room and still tried to get Sirius killed and claim a moral high ground over James Potter by loudly declaring that he'd "saved" Harry-because he was trying to clear up the Life Debt he owed James for being saved from Remus.
The importance of the radio in the Deathly Hallows. They have a couple scenes in the movies where the radio is prominant and its nearly alwasy playing but its never explained why. The reason it is always playing is because the Weasley twins and Lee Jordan are using a radio show to secretly keep Harry, Ron, and Hermione updated on what is happening during the war. I watched a bit of one of the Deathly Hallows movies with my BiL and explained why the radio was so important because he had no idea.
As funny as it would've been, I don't think we needed to see Harry being humiliated by helping Lockhart with his "reenactments." On the other hand, Goblet of Fire would've been much better if it was closer to the books. The Maze, even more classes with Moody, or showing Harry giving his winnings to Fred and George to start their joke shop (Which I don't even think they mentioned in the movies.)
I would have like to see more about the house elves. How much they actually keep Hogwarts running behind the scenes is completely overlooked in the movies.
I really wish they gave us more of the Marauders, and they never showed Peter's death. I know it's a little brutal, but he just disappeared after dobby stunned him in the movies
They never mention that Harry's invisibility cloak is the third Deathly Hallow. There are two movies called "Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows", and they don't bring up Harry Potters Deathly Hallow. In not doing so the movies fails to inform the audience that Harry was the rightful owner of all three Hallows when he was "killed" by Voldemort. Thus making him master of death.
Like most of Dobby. He was in 5 books, but 2 movies. Nearly all of his character, which made his death all that much more emotional, was just not there.
Dang, reading all the comments makes me want to read the books again, but with someone this time. I watched the movies first, then listened to the audiobooks
I remember one scene which not only was in the books, but it used to be in the movie, but then I (never read the books) and a friend (who read the books) both thought it was missing
I remember watching half blood prince on tv and finding out that Snape's surname was Prince, but i'm pretty sure i never heard it from the movie so i'm guessing the uncut version on tv added it in... it's SOOOO minute a detail to have thats essential to the title that without it, the title gets misconstrued as just an edgy pseudonym from his youth.
yeah i didn't really think of it (i only really recognized it in movie 4 where suddenly Neville gives Harry the herbs) but after my Niece started watching Harry Potter since a school friend was a fan she kept asking me questions regarding some stuff which i thought were totally clear.....in the books.
I could write a book about everything they left our or changed! One ongoing issue is the house elfs. Neville becomes a house elf - Dobby was left out and somebody had to do what he did! And Winky and the rest of the house elfs. And Ron finally thinking of the safety of the House Elfs leading to Herminione kissing him! And on the subject of kisses and romance, movie only people don't have the full story of why Ginny and Harry are together! And Ron speaking up against Harry hurting his sister. Anyway, there are so many things that got left out. (And many good ones mentioned in comments already!)
When I was younger I was adamant that they should’ve put the Sphinx in the GoF. I wanted to see it so bad. But then they did me right with the Dumbledore vs Voldemort fight in OotP. It was everything I wanted, and I wish we got to see more wizard duels like that.
I know what you mean, they left out a lot of things from the books, but 0:35 - I understood that without reading the book what I'm upset with, that was left out of movies, is Hermione's activism and actions she took to fight for equal rights for house elves
@rump.o.smooth okay, I thought he was an integral character. I remember playing the Harry Potter games on Playstation, and he was in it by then. Again, they also used spells that weren't in any of the movies like filipendo, for example
@@anakinskywalker6666 yea, I don't remember if flippendo was even in the books. Peeves definitely had his moments but I understand how the movies could get away with cutting him out completely. He does continue to get harry both in & out of trouble through the years tho
How about the ending of the last movie! Harry did not fight Voldemort in a court yard alone! He was in the great hall with the entirety of the people surrounding him and Voldemort and he’s also explained the whole wand and love thing to him! 😒
How about all the badass things Hermione did. I mean come on in the movies we get her going "its kind of exciting...breaking the rules." Book Hermione would punch movie Hermione in the nose. She used a time turner to save a creature who was supposed to be put to death (yeah yeah Dumbledore let her but still), she helped break someone out of a holding cell (aka aiding and abetting), she set up a magical club where when you ratted on the club you got massive boils that SCARRED the girls skin so she will always have it. She set her teachers robes on fire first year. She kept rita fuckin skeeter in a JAR for MONTHS!!!!!!! Impersonating ministry officials. Brewing potions she really shouldnt have been. Breaking into gringots. (Yea this and the last were in the movies but damn she had that shit planned) CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW FUCKED THE GOOD SIDE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF HERMIONE WAS ON THE DEATH EATER SIDE?!?!?!?!!!!!!!
But didn't voldmort admit to Harry? At least he was a half blood in the movie version of Chamber of Secrets; when younger book him stated "you can't believe I would keep the name my muggle father gave me!". So it didn't go in depth that he wasn't the pure blood like he pretended to be, but at least let you know he wasn't a pure blood.
the love potion thing was shown but never to the degree to force someone to have sex with you because it did happen to ron but i cant imagine him being raped but the one chick who dies so
Well hold on, I’m the chamber of secrets, the movie, when Harry confronts young tom riddle, tom says certainly you didn’t think I would keep my muggles father name or something like that, so I always just kind of assumed he was half and half, I’ve never read the books but just assumed
Don’t they say in the second movie when harry is down in the chamber of secrets and he finally realizes Tom riddle’s actually volamort (lol sorry can’t spell his name) Tom says to Harry something like “oh you don’t expect me to keep my filthy muggle father’s name now do you!?”
2:10 McGonagall telling that ghost guy(Pete I think?) that the chandelier unscrews the other way Pete(r) would have been fun as a fun aside who comes in later for specific stuff
This is coming from someone who has watched all the movies several times, but never read the books: I’ll give you the half blood prince thing. The creature part I guess takes a little bit of reading between the lines, but I came to that conclusion on my own. it makes sense he owns that because who else would sirius have left it to? Lastly, Tom was in an orphanage because his family thought he was crazy or there was something wrong with him because he could do things that didn’t make sense. That screams his family are not witches making him a mudblood
Tom was in the orphanage because his mother died right after birth and father was not in the picture. And his mother was pure blood, father was muggle. So your interpretation is far from true
@@alexiell10 okay I went back and looked, so I was remembering wrong he said “she wants me looked at” which is more likely the lady running it but I still got to the conclusion that he was a mud blood and his parents weren’t in the picture only from the movies. There might be more backstory but I feel like that’s enough for the movie
She used the love potion on Tom Riddle Senior and was feeding him with it for months and he was basically magically coerced to marry Merope and was under love potion influence when she got pregnant (so magically rufied I guess). At some point she stopped giving him the potion thinking he will truelly fall in love with her but it didnt happened and he got up and left and she gave birth to Voldie and died. *there is also theory it was lot love potion but imperius curse
Short Historical Side Note: The mustache man was not actually part Jew. Longer Historical Side Note: That is a long-standing rumor that there is no actual evidence for. It started because no one knows who his paternal grandfather was. The mustache man's paternal grandmother was a cook who supposedly worked for a wealthy Jewish family. In an effort to stop him, or at least cause doubt for his followers, his nephew had written him a letter stating he was going to out mustache man and reveal that his paternal grandfather was the Jewish boss (or the 19 yr old son) his grandmother had worked for. Historians have researched this possibility and have concluded that it is not true... Primarily because the family his grandmother worked for was not actually Jewish and there were no Jews in the area since the 15th century. Additionally, noone of Jewish descent returned to the region until decades after the birth of mustache man's father.
I’m not 100% sure but I think your profile picture violates the Geneva Convention because it displays a Red Cross. You might wanna look into changing it cuz I’m pretty sure it’s a federal offense
1:37, for what it’s worth, it’s never actually been proven that Hitler had a Jewish grandfather. Hitler’s father Alois Schikelgruber was born of wedlock to a single mother and no one knows who his father actually was so he might have been Jewish but he could just as easily not have been Jewish
(Never read the books) But really, I still feel like there was such a lot of details glossed over that was just assumed that the viewer would know. Like the movies were made just for people who read the books. Didn’t help that the Deathly Hallows (1 & 2) WERE SO DAMNED BORING!! I started to completely zone out during them, I don’t think I could even follow along, and then introduction of so many characters all at once, most of whom I had absolutely no idea who they were, but the movie portrayed them as though they were known, important characters. But I was left like “Who Are these people and why should I care that they’re here to die for Harry?”
