This certainly brings back some memories. I worked during the summer of 1988 at the Ranch Pit Shop and then the following summer at RPS Distribution (the distribution business/room behind the retail shop). I spent most nights during those summers racing a JRX-2 at the Ranch (weekly races Tuesday nights) and then at about a half dozen So Cal tracks (AJB Raceway, Costa Mesa, etc.) on other nights (there was almost always a race night somewhere). I would pit in the Team Room and would get setup tips from guys like Jack Johnson, Rossetti, Bill Goldsmith, and others. It was hard to go four minutes (pre brushless) and you had to have your matched-cell Ni-Cad race pack for the main. I remember in the warehouse we just could never keep X-pattern tires in stock - they must’ve sold millions of those. Eventually the H-arm conversion was the hot ticket for the JRX2. I was at the Ranch track one night when the whole pro team was there - they were testing a top secret new device: the infamous hydra-clutch. They were getting it ready for the Worlds. A few years later I went on to work at Hobby Dynamics which was then acquired by Horizon, and I stayed working with them a few more years. My first RC car was the Tamiya Sand Scorcher I think around 1982 or so.

The biggest product drop in RC history. In 1988 Losi exploded onto the scene and hasn't looked back since. You couldn't get one when they were first released. It took my hobby shop about 6 months to get 2 of them. They finally gave Team Associated a rival and the racing scene that we now know began. Super cool!

i got this as my 3rd rc race car. had been racing for 4 or 5 years when i bought the JRx2 pro kit and painted it to the black scheme. i raced it as a buggy for 2 years then converted it to truggy to follow the growing popular class. it was one of my most used and most dependable rc cars. i upgraded mine to carbon fiber chassis vs stock molded pan and went with the h arm rear ditching the 5 link. at the time i shelved my jrx2 i was just seeing a move to nimh cells from nicad. i had bought a roller several years back for nostalgia sake but it came from the bay more beatup looking in person and didnt quite capture the essence. hoping for more fun with the mini.

Man I'm blown away and excited to see this release! Bought my first Team Losi JRX-2 back in 1989 when I was a Team Driver for my LHS. Won a ton of races with it. I had to do the rear arm conversion on it to replace the 5-link rear suspension. THIS was the buggy that gave many Team Associated RC-10's in my area a run for their money! Can't wait to pick one of these classics up and display on my shelf next to my OG JRX-2 that currently lives a happy life on my shelf!

He would bring home all the random parts from different builds and my brother and I would build them into complete rolling chassis! Your Tyco car was probably a Turbo Hopper. I had one of those growing up and they were cool at the time. That said, the original JRx2 changed my racing life! I received a JRx2 for Christmas shortly after they were released. At the time, I had been running a beat up old RC10 gold pan. The technology of the JRx2 was light years ahead of Associated. I started winning races with the JRx2 right out of the box. I was probably 14 years old at the time and was demolishing everyone in stock and modified. Back then we used to run both classes. What a car though. I have already added this replica to my Horizon Hobby cart.

Man tons of memories! My brother and I terrorized the local tracks back in the day with the next Gen JRX PRO SE and LX-T truck. I’ve always wanted a JRX2 or Junior T so I’ll definitely buy the 90s magazine ad art black version. Quick realization, I believe the red and blue versions were JRX2 whereas the black livery was actually the JRX PRO kit version. 🤙🏼🏁

Back in the day...I'd perve on the jrx2...loved the design, & realized that Losi were getting serious. The car had older looks for it's time, but underneath it was innovative for it's time! I went with the Kyosho product...& still do, amongst other brands... In saying that, the favourite rc in my stable of around 25 cars...(half of them projects) is the Losi 8 mini. The mini runs on 3s all day, is a 80kmh basher beastie! I'd love add some of the same mods, but tamer, to the jrx2, 1/16th version.

Back 1989 I used to race my two Rc10's at an indoor dirt track called Zero and 4 Hobbies in Visalia California. That track was ahead of its time back in the day, there was even a full on hobby shop. I wanted a Jrx2 because the guys with them started dominating the track, so I sold my Rc10's to get the X2. I continued racing until the mid 90's and later sold the X2. Wish I still had Rc10's and X2 to this day. 😪

My first RC car was a Tamiya Falcon. Raced it, kept being lapped by a couple of rc10, whilst beating anyone else that turned up. 2wd was unpopular compared to 4wd/ 05R stock class. Left racing (pocket money only goes so far, I was 15). Returned with a JRX2 couple of years later. We now forget how revolutionary that car was, you could build a kit, add a bit of weight, and have a competitive car. Raced it, my brother with an Ultima stood no chance and had to get one. We now forget how price competitive it was (In Australia at least). Loved that car and the Proformance kit that came later. Really wish they'd release in 10th scale. As it stands I have a SE and a PRO in 10th scale, both bought off ebay, both needing work and disappointing. As someone who's build a Turbo Optima and sits next to an unbuild Optima Mid, I'd happily buy 2x jrx2 and a proformance kit.The receiver/esc in one is very disappointing. Anyone interested in these cars is likely to have a transmitter they want to bind to. Hope that most are produced in red, that clear bodies will be available. Hope that the new TLR 2wd will have a layback g/box and is competitively priced.

Ryan, you're clearly stoked, lol! I remember first seeing the JRX-2 and thinking THAT is going to give my RC10 a run for its money? I never underestimated anything from Losi/TLR ever again! The car is a classic and has a special place in RC history but 1/16 scale? I don't really care about the reasons behind Losi choosing this scale but for me, just no interest in owning a small scale replica. Give me a 1/10 scale and I'm all over it. To me, this just misses the mark, completely! ✌

I couldn't afford these when I was a kid. But then they came out with the JR2 and the JRT. Their cheaper versions of this. I was able to get a Jr-T I felt cool.

The JRX2 was my first Real RC Car. I raced it at FASTLANE, that Is Now HOTROD Hobbies. The track has been there since 1987 and I can’t wait to get that car and hit the track🏁👍

BITD Jack Johnson ran his prototype JRX2 at Circus Hobbies here in Las Vegas for at least a year before it was released. We got to see it in action, in person, long before most everyone else did and it was glorious! There was a 500 lap endurance race at Circus Hobbies, must've been in '87, Jack brought out his car and Ron Rosetti and Gil Losi Jr all took turns driving it. They were so far ahead at one point it was crazy, then they broke a bellcrank, they didn't have any spares so had to pull out of the race. Side note, the original Jr's Choice was a great motor, 17x2 so not super powerful but fantastic when running 7 cell. I also ran it in endurance races with my JRX2, much faster than any stock motor and 5+ mins of runtime. Just ordered the box art mini JRX2 to so now I need to get my JRX2 body painted box art to match 👍

Hey man extremely new to RC's. Lots of learning to do and your videos have helped tremendously. I really like yout back wall set up where you have your cars hanging, and I'm not sure if you have a video on it but I'd be interested in how you hang them like that. Also do you think there's any potential harm from hanging them in that way? Like maybe unnatural pressure on the suspension?

the red design was the real Jrx2, the black one was the Jrx Pro and the blue one was the Junior 2 Around 35 years ago. My brother had the Jrx Pro that we exchanged. My cousin bought a new Junior 2. I got two used Jrx T, one was new but assembled. Coming from Tamiya cars those things were like tanks. We did a lot of racing and had tons of fun.

I raced one in the 80's...step pin tires, edge fronts, 1800 mah nihm 6 cell battery, gear it for 4 minutes......those were the days.....TLR 4 LIFE🤘

I had one when we ran the old SCR 1200 NiCd lol. People nowadays worry about heat lol. Those old brushed cars would melt aluminum motor mounts. Batteries would get so hot you couldn't barely touch em. Good times

@@paulpadilla5288 Remember the first NiMh that hit were those purple Panasonic I think. Weren't much better lol. But yeah those black label Sanyo NiMh were a HUGE step. I repeatedly charged mine 6-10 times a day. No puffing lol.

Shame they haven’t released it as 1/10th, the vintage racing seen is really growing. We have a heat of 10 vintage cars at my home track this weekend

agreed especially because the originals were so fragile it would be nice to have replacement parts for them.

$2.75 an hour and then $3.15 an hour working at McDonald's. 2 months later, my first two checks went immediately to the check cashing place and then to the hobby store. Had no money for electronics but who cares, I had the buggy, thanks to RC Car Action June 1990 issue, the JRX2 was Car of the Year.

I remember those and the Team Associated RC10..... My very first real RC kit was a Team Associated RC10T stadium truck....... I believe I got mine in 1992-93 when I was 11-12 🤔..Lord im getting up there. I never was able to go to a track unfortunately and by the time I was 16 RC cars were not on my radar. Mustangs and poontang were all I cared about 🤣 now im 40.... RC stuff is all I want to do... I've been able to hit a couple tracks.... I suck.... But love it!!! And I've also been more interested in the carpet game but unfortunately no carpet tracks anywhere near me... Tired of mud and clay cleaning.
