e258: Team Losi's First Budget Friendly RC Buggy... The LOSI JUNIOR 2 

The Junior Two was my first RC. It was purchased at my local race track Off-road headquarters in BeltsviIle Maryland right when it came out. I modified it over the years and ended up racing it and still own my original. Unfortunately you do not have an early version as it had several releases ( half bearings, all bushings, XX transmission ) I don't really think it matters from a collectors stand point. The first runs had black transmission casings the same color as the chassis. The grey casings and molds didn't come around until they released the XX transmission. The original Junior 2 also came with a motor plate that was stamped JRX2 that was carried over and recycled, the ones you have came with the XX transmission upgrade and all later models. This also applies to the front bulkhead you pointed out. Also the original front shock springs out of the box were much shorter. It was one of the first things I replaced because of the aesthetic. I loved that you could adjust the ball diff without taking the gear box apart. The chassis was revolutionary at the time and the upgraded JRX Pro SE was modeled directly after it. Great buggy. I had that thing dialed. Great find and love the Gem series motors. Great value back in the day because they were machine wound modified motors and were half the price of hand wound motors.

I'm 46 yrs old ...I just dug up my Jr2 from my childhood home. 30 yrs old ..a bit dusty, complete with Novak Esc and HPI 10 turn brushed motor. I'm doing a full electronic replace with Traxxas components. Mine is definitely an early model - I bought it at a hobby show when it first came out. Gearbox is black.

That is one fine example. Out of all the wheels, natural, white, yellow, bright orange, dark orange and wild red, the wild red is my favorite. My mini JRX2 is identical to yours. Blue body with wild red wheels.

Nice! If only I had a time machine so I could go back to my early teenage years and buy all of these awesome cars. I remember so many of these when they were released. I never expected that these cars would be so collectible and so much better than the new stuff. Thanks again!

I remember buying one of these when they were new, just because I absolutely LOVED the box art paint and wheels... Man, was I EVER disappointed when I opened the box and found fluorescent orange disc wheels in it!! It just figures... because In ANY other case, I likely would've been stoked about getting the "better" race wheels w/ my kit... but, OF COURSE the one kit I buy specifically for the looks, went that way! lol... I swear if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! Bitchin' ride, man!! I'd LOVE to have that on my shelf!! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, love it, just sold my JNR² and I had so many people wanting. I didn't think it was a highly sort after car, as the JRX and JRX2 was easily comparable. Added A&L steering, 48 pitch gears, Retro fit box, graphite front brace, and rear tower. Only thing I wish I could find was a rear motor plate in best condition. Mine was 7/10 condition. Bought a couple of things from Vesa... Have no doubt he knows his cars!!

What a nice pickup! Looks amazing and was one hell of a "budget" car back in the day. Would be hard for me to run a plastic chassis in that good of condition bud.

Awesome find. I have yet to go down the Losi rabbit hole. I know once I start I will be 10 cars deep in a matter of weeks.

The Junior 2 came out in 1992. The shocks don't "look" originals if that has a bronze tint to them. They were more plain silver/aluminum in color and the cartridges were bigger with single O rings. If those shocks are original they have the replaced double o ring (better) cartridges you can still get today. The front bulkhead should still say "JRX2" on it rather than "Team Losi" so that might be from another year. Never heard of the grey gearbox on a Junior Two but the motor plate looks right saying "Losi Performance" instead of something else like "JRX2". That chassis is definitely Junior Two and you don't see those every day. See the two holes and the recess on the sides by the battery? Don't know what that was originally intended for but all replacements didn't have that IIRC. Don't recognize that plate over the battery tray as Junior Two you just mounted the speed control on the rear bulkhead / shock towers. Then the wheels are obviously supposed to be white as you mentioned and the front tires look correct. The rear tire should be little knobby spikes you can see on the box. I think we only really had like 3 losi tire options when that came out and the other two were an "X" tread pattern and foam IIRC. The last problem is the camber links (etc) weren't adjustable in a sane way, just threaded rod and you'd have to disconnect the cups off the balls to adjust them. The ones you have are the upgraded ones you could buy and are so much better.

That is a really nice looking and well built buggy..cool paint job! This has a late chassis(note the recess under the servo saver) and the grey gearbox is later also..the seller was incorrect. Other upgrades..hard anodized dark grey shocks(originals were silver)..turnbuckles and long rod ends(original was short rod ends and threaded rod)...and the RPM esc tray.

Only buggy better looking than a Junior 2 to me is the Kyosho Turbo Scorpion. Won alot of races back in the day with my Junior 2 against RC10s and Jrx2s with just bearings and a slipper clutch. Had a carbon fibre chassis later. Wish I still had it got swindled out of it never got paid and the dude got it crushed it running on the street. Best wheels ever.

Really like the early models. I remember when the Speed Gem motors came out. When you changed the brushes to a little harder compound they came alive.

The chassis looks to be an early version as well as the trans case. The later chassis JR2/JRT chassis was milled out a bit to the left and right of the battery (where the receiver and speedo would go) and under the transmission to make room for the XX retrofit trans which would be released for the JRX-Pro SE and LX-T. Great looking buggy, saw it on FB and it was hard to hold back lol

Even if it's "early" the Pro and ProSE were already out and neither of mine had a grey gearbox. I sold one of these when I worked at a hobby shop in 1991 and it had a black gearbox.

I just found my old Team Losi RC car but don't know if I should get it up an running since it's vintage. It's super cool.. I found my old toolbox with extra gears and motors and other parts.

You can buff out most of the scratches on carpet. Ive buffet out scratches rubbing the plastics on my carpet floor..

I was hoping that they would’ve had these at horizon fest last year since they were new at that point but they didn’t have em. I will get one eventually

Any idea when the JRXT Mini is going to be released? There's a two page ad in the latest RCCA magazine but Losi is tight lipped and unresponsive about it.

I have a losi 2wd buggy, and a losi stadium truck that I acquired and need help identifying. They were thrown in in a deal for an A stamp rc10. Is there a reliable source to help me identify what I have?
